Looks like she is using the jogging block while the clamp is down to straighten the stack that she just cut into a neat pile, either preparing for the next operation, or preparing for packaging.
The safety functiones are not removed.I belive she turned on the "auto knife prepeared" function. All the newer xt models have the "auto knife prepeared" and the "auto knife active" functions.
This is the exact same polar I use, the 137. Shit back to work tomorrow to do the same ol shit. There a nice guillotine to work with. We have 4 of them at our work.
I cut the tip of my finger off on a polar guillotine, fair enough it was an older version, My finger got caught on the clamp when it went up! the beams cant stop that!! it bloody hurt!! Funny though I discovered that the tips of the your fingers grow back!! amazing!
Also why does she knock up with the clamp down? and who let a woman on a guillotine? })
Glad she is using a new machine. I have a 1977 Lawson knife machine. The thing is soo old. Cost the company I work for $10,000 and we had it for 5 years and we put almost $20,000 into it. Keeps breaking down. they don't want to buy a new machine or good used one. They just keep putting band-aids on that crappy Lawson. Lucky girl, she got a new machine.
She needs to learn when to use the jogging block. She is trying to make sure her product is in position with the jogging block after the clamp comes down. Duh.
That is possible only in Canada. In Latin America operators and pressmen would stop working, made-up excuses to get around the cutter and chat with her and ask her out.
I've been cutting for 18 years, I don't think I would use that feature, I've seen a lot of machines malfunction over the years. I'm sure after a while it feels safe, but there are too many what if's. If she were to knock her jogging block into the knife for example, it would pass under the light barrier easily, unless its magnetic. Thanks for explaining.
Yes i understand!! The machine is totally safety, but... The jogging block can be hurt including the knife. Or if the operator is not focust it can be that he moves the paper not right into the machine. Then he's not that quick enough to stop it.
Than is cutting without auto knife safe. It is less quick.
We have a polar 115 at work. Awesome machine. The shear bolts break every 2 months. They don't change the blade often or they drive the blade into the cutting stick to deep. I been cutting for 8 years, but I work on a Lawson built in 1977. Do you change a lot of shear bolts that people break?
Normally they do not break. When a knife is blunt or set to deep into the cuttingstick then it can break. Set a knife not more than 2 times deeper.A third time set the knife up(first position)and change or turn the stick. After that set the knife into a position that it cuts all the paper.
A bolt can break if it has been replaced. After a couple days cutting it must be relocked again. It will go losen after a while. If you do not thighten it again it will break after a mouth or so.
Yes, but...... Carbide knife is very hard and you can cut it for a very long time. An alloy knife is softer and gets blunt much quicker. A blunt knife can cause a shear bolt to break. If you set a soft knife depper and deeper. The tip of the knife gets mishaped (grinding does not help) . The cut into the paper will be bad and may cause a bolt to break. So do not put the knife deeper than 2 times. Then turn the stick.
yeah, same here. must be a new feature, so long as the light barrier isn't broken. she looks to be bringing the clamp down all the way with her foot, so it's not on automatic.
Have you ever been distracted and left the knocking block in the knife path? I did, and you only do it once, believe me!

Not in the US, the knife should stop if the buttons are released during a cycle.
pickalobob 2 years ago
i see what you mean.
She is working on auto knife. It's programmable and is completly safe. If she comes between the light barriers de knife will stop.
If she is not using the auto knife the knife will stop. also in the rest of the world.
This way of cutting makes it more easier to cut. Only polar 92,115,137, 155, 176.

Use only carbide tipped knifes! Other soft alloy knives may cause the bolts to suddenly brake.I know from my experience: D
