  • A Boss super overdrive guitar effect pedal for blues? no mate your wrong.

  • i like more crunch from my overdrives

  • Why is it so hard to play some simple chords and arpeggios instead of soloing like your life depends on it?

  • They supply the WORLD? We're FUCKED!!!

  • Boss SD-1 Super Dooshbag Poser Demo

  • world music suppppplyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

  • Dude stop playing the same f*cking lick whole the time!!!

  • @mcfatty007 I think you're wrong.

  • OD3 or SD1? as a main overdrive?

  • wow.

  • hi my name is jason spencer and i will play some blues scales

  • He has his name on his guitar? Fucking hell I want to cry.

  • That note @ 1:11 made me want to commit suicide.

  • I appreciate if the person demoing the product would play the same riff with the two settings instead of two completely different ones so that it would be easier to really hear the difference

  • Great demo <3

  • Play some goddamned chords already

  • But he does not have humbuckers

  • This isn't Jaosn Spencer, this is Buster from Arrested Development ok?

  • Would this work for van halen?

  • Comment removed

  • I used to have this pedal and i didn't like it at all. If you like Boss pedals the OD-3 OVERDRIVE is much nicer...warmer and more versatile...although is much more expensive

  • douche bag thinks all we do is solo

  • fucking egotistic nerd has his name on his guitar o.O

  • Excellent demo--ignore the d-bags.

  • My mom puts my name on my guitar too and sews it on my underpants.

  • Hey! He moved up to C# Pentatonic for this demo!

  • @jordonplaysguitar

it seems like a pretty good, to-the-point demonstration of a simple pedal. if you really need a more in-depth explanation on how to use a 3 knob boss overdrive pedal, then you should probably stick to marshall practice amps.

  • Synyster Gates used this pedal for just seize the day?

  • its a great pedal for blues SRV /Mayer tones

  • you look like a turtle!

  • Despite whatever animosity the crowd feels towards this guy, this demo is incomplete. It only features "classic blues" solos and virtually no chords.

  • Why are so many people insulting this demo...its not that bad. Jesus Christ get over yourselves.

  • the guy ain't all bad people...

    average demo ~

  • i want to slap this man in the face

  • does anyone like this man?

  • I have a question for avid pedal and effects users. Would this be suitable as a solo boost for shredding, as in putting a lot of distortion on the amp and then when you solo you turn the pedal on as a gain and sustain boost, I heard that jason becker used it in that way on perpetual burn.

  • "I'm gonna kick it on." *turns on pedal with his hand.*

  • @hellspawn781 LMFAO!

  • @hellspawn781 lol XD

  • Makes you sound more like an tube amp right??

  • Kind of need somebody who plays simple things on these pedals.

The soloing isn't what everybody buys these for, and You should play modern songs, classic, and blues, for us all. Please

  • I'm going to kick it on *uses hand*

  • What about solid state amp users?

  • is this pedal suitable for guns n roses solos and rythms ?

  • @markingfeat. If your looking for a bluesy type sound, check out the Boss BD-2 Blues Driver. If you want more of a rock/ hard rock Foo Fighters and Green Day type sound the DS-1 is for you.

  • What's wrong with this guy?!

  • SD-1 or DS-1 ?? i want to know they have the same price tag, and i wanna buy one of those.

  • I love the way it starts humming when he engages it.

  • @hypolittleskittle07 He's using single coils. When you boost the signal it's going to be easier to hear the hum. Any pedal that adds gain is going to make the hum more pronounced, not just this one.

  • @eddieh74 eric clapton(blackie), srv(no.1), john mayer(black one)

  • what kind of person has his own name on his guitar?

  • @eddieh74 BB king

  • @eddieh74 someone with a small penis.

  • @eddieh74 dimebag darrel, synester gates, eric clapton, john mayer, bb king

  • @eddieh74 Les Paul? ;D

    watch?v=S8O5wZAd2z4

  • hi this is jason spencer with world baseball cap supply

  • he demonstrates the dirty amp sound with chords, hits the pedal and then does leads...this guy is clueless.

  • This isn't a great demo - playing the same riff would make it easier to hear the difference in sound ...

  • WHY DO I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THESE VIDEOS ARE MADE TO DISPLAY THE EGO OF THE GUITARIST, NOT THE SOUND OF THE PEDALS?

  • @mcfatty007 maybe cause he did not play a single chord... dont know :P

  • Probably one of his better videos playing wise... some of these videos are suicide inducing...

  • Wow you magically made shity playing sound louder good job! I've been playing for 3 months and I'm almost as good as him

  • Man! Everyone here sure is being brutal on this guy. His playing wasn't THAT bad. But as far as demo's go, this does'nt really tell you much because as was stated before, he does something different with each "setting" instead of giving a true A/B test. He even screws with the switch and tone on the guitar. But....for an inexpensive Boss pedal, this does an awesome job of pushing an overdriven tube amp into higher gain with more hair and sustain. I use it for everything from blues to metal.

  • Is this pedal good for Metal? I mean it's awesome for Blues and Rock N Roll, but is it good for metal?

  • @MrJohnny2020 thats the same overdrive that munky from korn uses... so it depends on what you like...

  • @MrJohnny2020

yes, it is. if you set a light crunch on your amp, then switch on the pedal. Zakk Wylde use this too.

  • if people keep slagging this guy's vids he's probably gonna kill himself and we'll all feel slightly bad about it.

  • does this have true bypass?

  • @bigcatroberts

No Boss pedal is true bypass. If it has a metal stomp switch that's at least 2P2T (double pole, double throw), then it's true bypass. All Boss, Digitech, etc. pedals are buffered bypass. However, unless you're only using 2-3 pedals, you don't want EVERY pedal you have to be true bypass. You would need a buffer at the beginning and end of your chain because every so many feet of cable, you lose tone. Buffers bring the tone back.

  • @rodwyr wow thanks man I had never heard that

  • @bigcatroberts

Not a problem! Glad to help!

  • @rodwyr Correct. On the other hand, boss' bypass suck big time. They make your amp sound like a car muffler.

To make use of this pedal, you should either mod it, or not disengage it (taking it out of the loop).

I have owned this one and the OD-3. This one has quite a unique mid range, different than the TS-9, but also similar in a general way, specially good for pushing tube Marshalls, I thought it was shitty for everything else. The OD-3 sounds really good by the way. Check that one out, Peace.

  • @lbighetti

Perhaps the bypass does suck. My OD's and distortion all have Monte Allums mod kits in them (SD-1, BD-2, and DS-1). The OD's sound considerably more transparent and the distortion actually sounds usable. May check out the OD-3 sometime.

  • @rodwyr Yeah Monte Allums has good reputation. The BD-2 sounds nice as well, I just never owned it. You should indeed try the OD-3, its my favorite Boss overdrive. In comparison to the BD-2, it sounds more natural, smoother, less crispy, less compressed. To me the BD-2 is more like a distortion anyhow. Think of the BD-2 as a JCM800 and the OD-3 as a Plexi. Well actually don't, they sound nothing like those lmao, but you get the point right?

  • @rodwyr Also, I believe there are countless possibilities better than Boss, specially for overdrive/distortion. Boutique quality often comes with a high price tho you may say, but there are a few companies that have really high standards and are not overpriced. Barber as my favorite for example. Barber pedals (specially overdrive and compressor) are among the highest standards of quality and tone, are played by really picky players, and they cost less the 130 bucks. Definitely worth checking out

  • @lbighetti

I agree with the boutique pedals. I would rather have something boutique...just can't afford it. Thankfully, I know someone who can solder well. He modded my OD's, Distortion, and even put together my BYOC Tremolo. So, thankfully, I can save some money on better tone. But, even pros have a couple of Boss pedals on their boards, so they can't be ALL bad. Just plenty that are better.

  • @rodwyr Oh no I didn't mean they are bad, I have owned a couple myself. What I meant is like, take the Hardwire CM-2 for instance, it costs about US$60 (actually less than the boss OD-3). Its built like, it looks like its gonna survive a nuclear holocaust lol, everything is made of metal even the knobs. Sounds killer, has a voicing switch (vintage/modified), Bass and Treble control (Common problems associated with overdrives are often bass/treble cut). Reacts really well to volume knob on guitar

  • you forgot to mention you canged the tone on the guitar.are all effect pedals made for guitar shredders or death metal enthusiasts.

  • why has he got his name on his guitar?

  • Sweet!

  • what kind of amp is that?

  • actually this video is good for me because that's what i was looking for -the sd-1 on top of an overdriven amp, but not so good since in the a/b test in the end he plays some riffs and then a solo with the pedal on. you're supposed to play similar things to compare 2 sounds... other than that good video

  • this pedal is great! it can produce heaps of sounds.. its great for modern rock, hard rock.. but not metal..

  • useless review

  • Very great demo, awesome job!

  • I dont like this demos dont know why....

first... the pentatonic shit all the time on all the demos

second... never do any chords... . so yo cant never apreciate de advange

third ... mmm well there is no third .. but even a cellphone demo its better than this

  • @suhijo dont watch it..

  • @suhijo ...dude it doesn't matter how the player is... it's about the damn pedal! Sure the chord thing is annoying but seriously it's a pedal review!

  • By the way. When I was looking for Overdrive pedal for me I watched his videos and it made the big influence on me.

I bought SD-1 from Boss. And I do like this.

  • I like the video from this man.

I don't really understand why does somebody tell some shit about him.

His video with good sound and good explanations.

    On my mind

  • @PaulGirnik ?!?!?

  • jason spencer you fag. we cant tell the difference if you do solos for one and chords for the over.. let alone only doing solos doesnt help.

  • @volcom1722 dude chill. Its a drive pedal. Not a distortion. They're made for leads not so much chords. no need to insult the man.

  • @Russiaizfun Hey dude, sorry this was posted 7 months ago.. anyway yeah you should use this in chords, it can be nice sound.

  • man, he sure plays that classic Jason Spencer signature lick a lot...

  • hey spencer, stop shredding for once. some people wants to see some chords too y'know?

  • he likes to swallow

  • It's sound like an Iron Maiden sound !!

  • "hi this is jason spencer with world music supply" getting classic lol :P

  • CREEPY i keep having strange dreams where a man in a black hat stands by my bed and says "hi this is jason spencer with world music supply"

  • 2:20 im so tired of hearing that fucking scale...he does it on the metal zone too

  • Just curious, but would this be a good pedal to go with a basic Fuzz Pedal to get old garage rock sound?

  • @xXJoshzillaXx no, i was really disapointed when i mixed an MXR 108 fuzz with this, it sounded like what you get when you have a distortion pedal and the amps built in overdrive, i would just get the digitech grunge

  • @MeanGreenMovies Thats actually what I currently have lol. Thanks for the info

  • I would much rather have the trex mudhoney od

  • fuck you jason!

  • Useless demo; they might as well mic up someone shitting into a tin can!

"hi, I'm Jason Spencer, and I'm going to play the same thing over again."

  • it's so sad that he just plays scales and always the same bluesy licks.

you never get an impression of a pedal by watching a review from JS

  • FU JASON

  • At least he's using a strat instead of that crappy schecter that sound horrible on clean

  • Sounds like I'm watching "Becker." Great playing and great sounding pedal. I'm bout to blow a $50 Guitar Center gift card.

  • fuck you jason spencer!

  • This pedal is nice, and a lot cheaper than other BOSS overdrive pedals, im impressed

  • sei una merda!non sai fare i test...incompetente!

  • I have this pedal. Not a fan of it. But I guess thats because I'm Metal and not Blues.

  • @TheRSWatch What would you suggest for another metal guy? I'm going to buy a pedal but don't know which.

  • @Sknot133Mhz not this, this is an overdrive pedal, you probably wanna look at the BOSS MD-2, MT-2, ML-2, these are the heavy distortion pedals

  • @JRNicholson27794 I decided I will buy the BOSS MT-2. Thank you for the info!

  • this guy would never be a cool guitarist

  • @CameronGarbutt Especially with his name above the scratchplate. I think his mum might have put it there...

  • Che fallitazzo

  • i have this pedal ,, pretty nice

  • syn gates uses this effect

  • I'm getting it tonight/tomorrow. =D

  • @Seanyboy225 i got one today, it's awesome

  • i love this pedal i want one :)

  • I own this pedal and I think its horrible...I use a Bugera 1960 tube amp with 4X12 Marshall 1960 cab and this pedal increases the hum through the guitars pick ups...Really no added sustain...Ive tried every knob setting you can imagine and I think it's a piece of crap..There are WAY better OD pedals out there...this thing isn't one of them.

  • @reditreefrogs I agree, there are much better pedals out there. But for 50 bucks, I think it's pretty good.

  • @reditreefrogs You may want to try using a noise reducer like a Decimator or NS-1. I run one of these in front of my VHT Pittbull UL and it really tightens up the low end. Without my Decimator, it really hisses back. But when it's on, no feedback, no hiss. Yeah, there's better out there, but this does the job.

  • @AzaelVI thanks for the suggestion...A noise gate is a filter right...I decided to plug my pedals using the effects loop in the back of the amp instead of plugging them directly into the front...The pedals no longer hiss or hum...The loop seemed to filter out the noise I was getting when I pluged in the front input directly...

  • your video is pretty much pointless because the stuff you play when comparing clean to with the pedal are two completely different things so you dont really get a clue as to what it does

  • Would this be good for a clean boost in a master volume marshall?

  • can i use this overdrive pedal while im using a distortion channel or pedal? if so can you give me a good preset for the overdrive pedal? :D

  • OCD V3 Blue Led with a 18V wall wart = more headroom / true bypass / almost no hiss / true tube tones. Boss pedals are for children.

  • how much this cost?

  • @TENGKUOAIDIL

i got mine for $40 at a local store

  • Nice demo. I might pick this up.

  • this is probably the only demo that I have seen in my entire life where the player almost talks as loud as he plays

  • this and the Blues driver sound next to identical. There very treble / mid range pedals think Hendrix more the SRV, when I want Vaughan I hit the Ts9 Tubescreamer.

  • What's the $40 diffference with this and the OD-3?

  • the color

  • Hah-ha-ha $40 paint job??

  • lol

  • um the SD-1 sounds like more of a tube-overdrive just like the Ibanez tubescreamer. On the other hand, the OD-3 has more gain, but also sounds slightly smoother :)

Conclusion: SD-1 keeps the rich natural tone while also boosting the tone like a tube amp, and the OD-3 provides u with an amazing overdrive with more gain... so if ur looking for a light overdrive that doesn't cut through ur ears, the SD-1 is best... :)

Personally, i prefer the SD-1 for its similarity to the Ibanez Tube-Screamers :D

  • @gunturrent0shii thanks for your inputs!! what do think about the Keeley mod SD-1? are they really worth the mod? I've been deciding which to get. between the keeley sd-1 and fulltone ocd for boosting the drive channel of my traynor ycs50..

  • it is worth the mod for sure, its not even a doubt :D i've played a couple of them n they sound beautiful. that's the specialty of these tube-overdrive pedals, they boost up ur guitar signal real good. The Fulltone has a really similar tone to the modded sd-1, so whichever u prefer would be good. i would stick with Boss because they've never failed me :)

the original SD-1 is not bad either.. if all u need is a booster, the stock version would be an amazing enough booster to boost ur traynor :)

  • Ok, I'll give you that, I'm just a bedroom rocker, so I don't gig or none of that yet.

  • to be fair, i think because of copyright, he can only play ur standard chord and blues licks, because its an actual company on youtube they are limited to what they can play, like with guitarworld, he demo'd the slash les paul and couldnt play any guns songs because of breach of copyrightm, he'd hav to get permission and all that shite :(

  • if you're starting off playing guitar do yourself a favor and dont buy boss pedals. they are garbage. lets say you want an overdrive pedal. youtube "overdrive pedal" and watch all the demos and find one you like. there are hundreds that are better than anything boss could ever put out.

  • Boss makes a lot of crap but this pedal can sound REALLY good using it to push some tube pedals or just your amp. It seems like they quit making most of the pedals that were actually good! like the oc-2... The rc-2 looper, that's fun. What sucks is that they're going digital now. I know they make a lot of pedals but hm I can't think of any more that are awesome! Oh yeah for all of you out there who are buying your first pedals - boss pedals are buffered which means the SUCK TONE when not on.

  • Well it's not that hard to just disconnect the pedal you know...

  • What!?!? Yeah when I'm in the middle of a set, nay, the middle of a song, I'll just bend over and start unplugging stuff on my board! "Hey guys, for the solo break after the bridge, I need you all to stop playing for 20 seconds so I can unplug my pedal so it doesn't suck my tone when it's off" DUDE there are better alternatives to BOSS.

  • Is this pedal good for playing Guns n roses slash solos?

  • @ReaLMaGGoT666

    i think so

  • u dont need it to play slash solos, all u really need is a wah for some of his stuff. he dosen't use the overdrive so means u dont have to

  • Shut the hell up

  • If you have a good valve amp

  • This is one of the tube Crate Amps, so it does sound a little better. I do hate the sound of Crate amps, though

  • C.R.A.T.E. - Cant Really Afford True Equipment... Demo through a real amp. no pedal should be disgraced through a crate.

  • not everybody is as rich as you are :(

  • hahaha

  • love this pedal! doesn't sound great with my SS line 6 but with my 5 watt Bugera tube amp it screams! i didn't get it to use with the SS anyway :-)

  • what kind of strat is that?

  • Hi what is that amp called?

  • 0:18 - 0:21 he sounds like kermit the frog.. haha

  • @Ironsixx LMFAO XDXDXD!!!!

  • @CJ101nicKA its true isnt it??!

  • @Ironsixx HELL FUCKING YEAH AHAHAHAHHAAH XDXDXDXDXDXD!!!!!!!!

  • @Ironsixx xD

  • Actually, yeah sorry. I got an Mt-2.

  • I discovered a setup that can produce the Angus Young sound with this (Level: 9:00, Tone: 3:00, Drive: 11:00)! Try it!

  • thanks Man .

  • @12kirkhinrich12 Thats true my friend Thanks !!!

  • I am getting this for a boost with a ML-2.

  • Tip: Not without a noice reducer :) I would not really combine any OD/DIST with a metal core, it's enough drive already, get an eq for tone control.

  • is the sd-1 digital or analog?

  • haha analog! all stand alone distortion units are analog. cept for that nuclear one. forgot what its called.

  • ok thanks
