as a make-up artist there is no way I would lend my $60 Lancome powder brush to Brett just to do an airplane bit. They are hard to come by and Brett does not strike me as a 'careful' kinda person.

You need something that can handle that kind of wear and still give good results. 2nd - the fibre optic high-lighter brush that Brett is using is a specialty brush (it is for highlighting with diffusing products) so it can loose its shape if used incorrectly.
