Del Toro has ONE line of dialogue in the last 30 minutes of a 90minute movie...that ruins alot IMO.Still, this film has great cinematography and doesnt shy away from gore and without TLJ chasing someone for the 4th time, this could been great. Now it´s decent entertainment. This is beneath Benicio but he does his best with what he´s given. Last fights as stupid n corny as it is entertaining n badass. Making the knifes was a bit survival handguide,over-the-top but...a movie to both like n dislike.
Today's news that the last war crimes suspect in the Balkans has been captured reminded me of this film - the bit where trained killer Bernicio del Toro is undercover in the Balkans and then the film relates how he cannot turn off the training.
Terrible times in the Balkans, and so very recent.
You steady her up, dark ball, swinging all the way up to the tree line. And then it comes. and there aint nothing, not nothing can stop it. and he, is a walking son.
The knife is a Tom brown tracker and the style of knife fighting used in this movie is called kali knife fighting a martial art used and invented in the phillippines I hope this helps
If you take "critics" reviews only as a guide for movie or even games, then I feel sorry for you! Because great movies like this, No Country For Old Men, Law Abiding Citizen and even Equilibrium will pass you by and you wouldn't know! Most critics these days are biased and are incapable of separating personal opinions from a true in dept analysis of the subject matter!
Strange film. At the start del Toro claims his innocence (and the film does nothing to show otherwise), yet proceeds to go on a killing spree to save himself. Are we meant to root for him or not? For a Hollywood film, seems to take a fairly vague stance on the main character.
@jrt70 That is Hollywood low grade meant for the brut masses film for you. Who cares if he is right or wrong; the masses want to see blood spilling & violence of all sort. Most Hollywood movies are a waist of time and money, but the government has an agenda to keep the young deliquent & easy to manipulate & send off to war when the time comes. If their country is right or wrong, it really don't matter, they have to go to war to protect themselves from the "other guys." Sad, pathetic way of life
@jrt70 I think we're meant to feel a sort of sympathy that he was unable to turn off the trauma of war. His claim of innocence I think is more of a accusastion that he's innocent because he never would've killed if the govn't hadn't made him what he is. I think it's mean to be vauge so one can choose to root for him or not. I, personally, rooted for Tommy Lee Jones because he was the teacher and proved he was the master over his arrogant student.
@PeterBluth How was his student arrogant? L.T was arrogant who trained a man to kill n when the guy writes him letters telling him he´s like a father to him n he´s loosing it...please write. L.T never wrote...HE was the arrogant one, thus his guilt. And despite all his training, real life is some else.Him never having dew blood being able to kill a perfected assassin like Hallam in his physical prime...silly.
Thrilling, original film, shows how things can go wrong in the militairy where they train men like machines in order to kill, but don't fix their trauma's after the war.
@ufosenbomen But thats theEXACT point they touch but never comes close to developing.Train a man to a killer in the name of justice,he gets fucked in the head, kill him. That n the father-son mentor thing is completely missed.... Benicio has one line of dialogue in the last 30 minutes...one.The movie looks great, great fights,gore...but L.T who never had killed a man being able to kill a superassassin just cause he trained him...and he loosing 7 liters of blood in the last fight? And the chase? No.
@ufosenbomen But that n the father/son theme is exactly what the movie touches on but never develops remotely.Train a young man to kill in the name of freedom,he kills, gets fucked in the head, its more convenient to take him out then help.Feel it could´ve been great with just a few lines of dialogue..L.T feeling sorry for both creating Aaron n ignoring his letters, thus could´ve prevented the whole massacre? No,he shives him and read his letters at the end n burns em,no apology.L.T was an asshole.

the killing part is easy, the difficult part is figuring out where to hide the body

This is pretty much the class I run in Codbow. Ghost or Scavenger, steady aim and ninja with mp5k with silencer, and the ballistic knife.
