So it's not that there's only one ally, there's just no Shepard.

If you can't start Mass Effect at all, you've made a mistake (retrace your steps).

If you changed your charackter you have start a new career, in the menu you see only shepard, don't worry, ingame you will look like the character you chose.

@lycanrozaka I know you posted this months ago but I just wanted to say..

In the future any time you have a game you wish to mod, back up any save games first and if you are super paranoid like me just make a second install to mod and leave the original alone. Be aware that sometimes this can lead to problems with save games anyway as any install will save its games to the same folder in "my documents"...so always back up saves.

Irresponsible of modders not to say this, most do though.

Y'know, this reminds me of something. In Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age you can play as any one of your squadmates at anytime aside from the dialouge scenes. It's a pity they didn't include this in Mass Effect, though the temptation to play as Wrex for the whole game may have been to strong.

They originally planned on letting you play as your party members. As seen in the trailers. But I think they wanted the game to focus more on Shepard and his interactions with them, both on and off the battle field.

Pity they dropped it, it would have gotten rid of issues like having your squaddies stuk behind doors. Also, Dragon Age and KOTOR had part shwitching and still kept the focus on the PC pretty well. I hope they include the feature in ME3.

Well bare in mind, Mass Effect was designed as a far more combat tactical game then Dragon Age or Kotor. Since both were more RPG style with micromanaging, switching party members is an extremely needed talent. But with Mass Effect it would only unbalance the game for higher skilled players.
