Yes, that's true. This is for 3D work. Don't forget that the 8600M was the dedicated/discrete graphics chip (i.e., it's own memory) while the 9400M is integrated (sharing the main system RAM).

The point about it being 5x faster than the Intel is also true, as up to this presentation, Apple used the Intel GMA chipset for it's graphics etc., and the GMA is integrated graphics. The 9400M is 5x faster than this in 3D performance (both are integrated)

A side from a more powerful graphics card & a slimer desing the previous model of the MBP has nothing to envy!! In fact I rather keep my old model since it has that extra firewire 400 port and the new one is lacking it..
