The US had huge resources at it's disposal, this meant that the US could produce so much equipment, food, vehicles and they could use their massive army and fleet to attack both Germany/Italy and Japan, a war on two fronts. If Japan had attacked the Soviet Union instead of the USA then the USSR couldn't have released their Siberian divisions (numbers differ but between 50-150)
@giuseppeRraimondo well it wasn't so much of an idea as the 88 cannon was just so versatile in so many roles starts as FlAk but then moves up to being also used and as Tank Busters and L.O.S artillery and I praise Rommel for seeing its usefulness in the Tank Buster role

@giuseppeRraimondo well yeah almost all heavy FlAk cannons can be used as artillery its because flak simply has timers on it and you calculate how fast the rounds travel so when the rounds get to the right altitude it explodes same with artillery just point lower down and it also matters what kind of round and gun your shooting 88s can do all 3 roles but for artillery you think shooting over hills and cities but but 88s where direct fire artillery so almost like a gun point, shoot, done

@LucasTheLucky I've never had to do it, but talking to people who have, everyone's reasoning for pulling the trigger is different. In war, sometimes it's a necessity, sometimes it's just revenge. However, once you start getting shot at, everything becomes primal as your fight or flight instinct comes in, and you instinctively fire back, then instinct kicks over to rage and a lesser extent, bloodlust. One thing's for sure, when you shoot someone and you're not an animal, part of you dies, too.
There is a actually "good" military reasons for that. If you watch combat from the Pacific, or of saving private Ryan where the germans are machine gunning that messanger - its explained there well. If an enemy is alive (even if barely) he can still throw a grenade or pull a trigger; the days where you had to be physically fit to wield a sword made away with the grace of letting a wounded opponent live. And if they are an officer or messanger; which you can't see from a distance

They didn't have bodies of water to hide behind. Seriously, look up Operation Uranus.
Well, the rusians had a strategy, one that worked preety well, actually. It just didn´t see the lifes of the soldiers as important. Also don't forget it's a lot harder to invade than it is to defend, and that's without your invading armies getting screwed for supplies by sabotage by partisans. Greece also held out even thought it was outnumbered 2:1. Numbers aren't everything.
And the soviets took 10:1 casualties in Barbarossa, but that didn't mean they lost. Numbers have never been all.

Poland was part of Europe. Europe ends about a 1/3 of the way across Russia. That's always been the definition of Europe. So many battles throughout history have had the numbers against one side and they still won. Numbers help, don't get me wrong. But they're not all that's required for victory, which was a big part of Germany's victories. The Battle of France had equal numbers, Allied and Axis, but the Axis won faster than anyone thought possible.

That's a common idea, but it's not actually true. They were equal, and in some respects inferior to the French and British tanks. What was seriously different was the tactical doctrine used with them. Remember that the french were using them as mainly infantry support with lineal tactics, and the British were still using the Infantry/Cruiser tank differentiation. Germans used Schwerepunkt doctrine to great effect. That, and the French Generals were tactically crap.

Panzer II had a top speed of about 40kmh. Same as the Mk1 Cruiser, and similar to the Caviller. Crusader moved at 42kmh. Speed was more about logistics and opposition than engines.

The U.S.S.R existed for far longer than the second world war, and Stalin did not. Those 20 million were mostly poor Russians, who were killed by the Paranoid Stalin. The poverty in Russia went up to 50% from 2% after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Do not label all communists like Stalin.

@adri12345 No, it was the entering of the US into the war that really determined the fate of Germany. The US had huge resources at it's disposal, this meant that the US could produce so much equipment, food, vehicles and they could use their massive army and fleet to attack both Germany/Italy and Japan, a war on two fronts. If Japan had attacked the Soviet Union instead of the USA then the USSR couldn't have released their Siberian divisions (numbers differ but between 50-150)

@giuseppeRraimondo well yeah almost all heavy FlAk cannons can be used as artillery its because flak simply has timers on it and you calculate how fast the rounds travel so when the rounds get to the right altitude it explodes same with artillery just point lower down and it also matters what kind of round and gun your shooting 88s can do all 3 roles but for artillery you think shooting over hills and cities but but 88s where direct fire artillery so almost like a gun point, shoot, done

@LucasTheLucky I've never had to do it, but talking to people who have, everyone's reasoning for pulling the trigger is different. In war, sometimes it's a necessity, sometimes it's just revenge. However, once you start getting shot at, everything becomes primal as your fight or flight instinct comes in, and you instinctively fire back, then instinct kicks over to rage and a lesser extent, bloodlust. One thing's for sure, when you shoot someone and you're not an animal, part of you dies, too.

There is a actually "good" military reasons for that. If you watch combat from the Pacific, or of saving private Ryan where the germans are machine gunning that messanger - its explained there well. If an enemy is alive (even if barely) he can still throw a grenade or pull a trigger; the days where you had to be physically fit to wield a sword made away with the grace of letting a wounded opponent live. And if they are an officer or messanger; which you can't see from a distance

If you have more men, in terms of logic, you are always going to lose more, especially when you are attacking a very well equipped army, with the best heavy tanks of the war, with some of the best guns of the war, you are obviously going to lose more men. and the soviets lost around 8.8 - 11 million troops, but were facing far more divisions than the western allies. They didn't have bodies of water to hide behind. Seriously, look up Operation Uranus.

Most of Europe fell in less than a month each. What happened to France was far from isolated, the Germans blew through everyone pretty quickly.
The comment about the Soviet Tactics shows an utter lack of research. They developed, and adapted, and worked with what they had efficiently. The circumstances demanded no less, and by the end of the mid-war period they simply couldn't survive the massive losses. They had to innovate. Deep Soviet Battle. Predates schwerepunkt doctrine.

Not true. Poland had almost a million people at the outbreak, and the Battle of France had equal numbers, or close to it.
Also don't forget it's a lot harder to invade than it is to defend, and that's without your invading armies getting screwed for supplies by sabotage by partisans. Greece also held out even thought it was outnumbered 2:1. Numbers aren't everything.
And the soviets took 10:1 casualties in Barbarossa, but that didn't mean they lost. Numbers have never been all.

Poland was part of Europe. Europe ends about a 1/3 of the way across Russia. That's always been the definition of Europe. So many battles throughout history have had the numbers against one side and they still won. Numbers help, don't get me wrong. But they're not all that's required for victory, which was a big part of Germany's victories. The Battle of France had equal numbers, Allied and Axis, but the Axis won faster than anyone thought possible.

That's a common idea, but it's not actually true. They were equal, and in some respects inferior to the French and British tanks. What was seriously different was the tactical doctrine used with them. Remember that the french were using them as mainly infantry support with lineal tactics, and the British were still using the Infantry/Cruiser tank differentiation. Germans used Schwerepunkt doctrine to great effect. That, and the French Generals were tactically crap.

Eastern Bloc was politically affiliated with USSR, but still geographically Euro. It's just a side, a collection of countries, not a place. Anyway, that's irrelevant, because the Eastern Bloc hadn't been created at the start of WW2.

As for the speed thing, it's arguable. They moved STRATEGICALLY quickly, but that's a question of planning, not machines. They moved quickly because they were beating the French and sprinting forwards before they had a chance to stop them again.
Panzer II had a top speed of about 40kmh. Same as the Mk1 Cruiser, and similar to the Caviller. Crusader moved at 42kmh. Speed was more about logistics and opposition than engines.

@vaggelis1945 i will admit your military USED to be one of the best of all time but as soon as gun powder came you guys fell way behind and another thing you didnt beat Italy you did some damage but you never even made it onto their shores until the US and english troops broke their lines in other words you were nothing but back up in case something went wrong, and they didnt so stop acting all high and mighty cause your people are nothing compared to what they used to be,

@Fullyloaded43 we beat the Italians and pushed them back to their land! when you attacked Italy had nothing and their soldiers nearly did nothing to fight you! you had only the Germans against you ,the Fallschirmjagers who kicked your ass! how the fuck can you compare a millitary force in men ,when USA has 250 million men and Greece 11 million ?oh and we may not be excacly like our ancestors but we still are far better thn americans! that's for sure!

Germany - liquidated 6 million jews and sparked a conflict that killed over 45 million. German Aggression. The U.S.S.R. - 20 million by stalins hand and god knows how many more - communist crimes . org lists the amount of death. America may not be innocent, but she sure as hell is better than any of these other nations.

@Buemmo well actually we did nothing to japan they attacked us because they were allies with Germany who thought we were going to join they allies. and because of this they told japan to bomb the shit out of us. we did nothing to japan. they sealed their fate when THEY started the war though. and did you ever hear of the Zimmermann Telegram. a message from germany to mexico telling them to start a war on US soil. but mexico was smart enough to refuse and that is how the US got involved in WW2

In his memoirs, Churchill wrote that as the US forced Britain out of it's alliance with Japan, they were far more inclined to attack pearl harbour. The U.S.S.R existed for far longer than the second world war, and Stalin did not. Those 20 million were mostly poor Russians, who were killed by the Paranoid Stalin. The poverty in Russia went up to 50% from 2% after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Do not label all communists like Stalin.

First of all, I somehow agree with you regarding the movies and how they are shown. Keep in mind, that some of them are even made for entertainment, a war is not faught always as shown on TV/Films. Keep in mind that the Germans, were the evil cyborgs in WW2, dont understand me wrong here, not all germans. No need to even defend that. And for the record, I am not american, or even an allied.
