In ghost of ONYX (last book in chronological order) there were 5 spartain 2s and 7 spartan 3s. Sgt Jonhson isnt a spartan 1 just tough, Chief Mendez(the guy who trained all the spartans) is probably the only spartan 1 mentioned in the series. We will have to wait for the next book to know more(or HALO 4)
