there were many football brothers in pro game, the Charlton's, the de Boers... but the Laudrup brothers were the best, untouchable. It's amazing how two brothers were both so talented.
Laudrup to me is Dennis Bergkamp with pace and dribbling skills. He got great touch, great vision, unselfish and great dribbling skills. And he was quick as well, especially when he was young, forming that deadly partnership with Elkjaer up front for Denmark. The Laudrup-Elkjaer striking partnership IMO is the best I ever seen for the past 30 years. Individually, they were both brilliant. Together, they were unstoppable. both were so quick and skillful.
it´s always hard to say who´s the best! but i like what platini said, that makes sense. not always the best will remember, but most succesfull players. m. laudrup is surely one of the best, but zidane erans more title´s and thats what counts. he shot a lot of important goals for his team ( real madrid and for france). but laudrup was a magnificent player, perhaps really the one with the greatest talent in the 90´s. same with pele! great player, but not the best of the 60´s, in my opinion!
Mr. Laudrup reminds me of ronaldinho, right footed, mostly cutting inside from the left wing. Good dribbles, fantastic vision. Very complete playmaker.
To me this guy is like Dennis Bergkamp or Iniesta: gifted with an extraordinary touch. But what seperates a player like Zidane with thos guys is that Zidane had the ability to take over a game...He didn't just have that special touch that those guys had, he influenced football matches like not many can. He led a french side to the world cup finals in 2006. Two years later that same side minus Zidane got wooped in the European Cup.
@reziboy100 .lol no. zidane is very avergae comapred to laudrup.laudrup ahd much better vision and passing.zidane didnt lead france to anything n 2006. he had twoo good games one vs spain and one vs brasil.
@reziboy100 .yes it was actually. zidane had two good game svs spain and brasil. do you evem folow zidane or are you njust some retard who rides his dick? laudrup is regarded highly among expert and fellow professional such as curijff, the arrogant ronmario, zamorano, platini, beckenbauer, etc as one fo THE BEST ever./raul said in 2006 that laudrup was by far the best player he ever played with and finally to quote platini"zidane does with a footballwhat maradonna did with an orange".
@987costa yup I follow Zidane. He's the reason I fell in love with football when I watched him in 98. So naturally I prefer him over other players. But I can't argue with Cruyf, Romario, Platini, Beckenbauer, and Raul. If they think Laudrup is better than Zidane then fine. They know what they're talking about...But Zidane is not average. He will forever be remembered for his great contributions for France, Juventus, Real Madrid and for football in general...and NO I don't ride his dick. :D
@pwner331 tbh i think iniesta is the closest thing we come to a laudrup nowadays, Kaka is not what he once was, or what he had to potential to become, iniesta is elegant, quick, has flair, a fantastic first touch and like Laudrup extremely unselfish.
I really can't understand how one, after watching who Laudrup was and what he was capable of, dribbling and especially vision-wise, can deny he was the best player ever. We're not talking about awards... We're talking about proper football. And that's Michael Laudrup.
@casualdespair Don't exaggerate, dude, he can be the best of his nation, but of the world... I don't ever think this, he needed to do much more than what he did to be better than Maradona, Zidane, Platini, Zico...
@GedoMazou .lol what an ignorant. zidane was a joke compared to michael laudrup.laudrup was one of the best passers in history, had vision like no other, was creative beyond imagination, was fast, two footed, unselfishess, etc.zidane what a joke. see what cruijff, romario, raul, gurodiola, platini, etc have to say about laudrup.raul said in 2006 that michael laudrup was by far the ebst player he ever played with.zidane has always been overrated, he wasnt even the best playmaker in serie a in his prime.
@GedoMazou .Roberto Galia: "I have played against Maradona, Platini and Baggio. But the player I saw do the most indescribable things was Michael Laudrup."
Cruyff (After Real Madrid with Laudrup had won 5–0 over Cruyff's Barcelona): "When Michael plays like a dream, a magic illusion, determined to show his new team his extreme abilities, no one in the world comes anywhere near his level."
watching Michael play in real time i would often think that his brain would instantaneously collapse at some point, cells flying everywhere, teammates crying and so on.
It was really difficult to comprehend the intelligence his game carried, the angles wherefrom he envisioned his passes, his immaculate balance on the ball, his speed changes.Difficult, demanding and most of all, aesthetically pleasing.

Michael Laudrup is an UNBELIVABLY underrated footballer. He's as good as any in the history of football. It's just criminal that this man is nt usually mentioned in the same breath as the Cruyffs and Maradonas. Possibly the best passer of all time.
@diegote7 Laudrup is the most talented player of a Nordic country in last 40 years . It's a big pitty he never won a golden ball. As for his style, he was not a midfielder as Xavi, Cesc or Iniesta, but more offensive, creative, surprising and nice to watch.
I will always remember Laudrup for his humble nature and his unselfishness and intelligence ...he never spoke bad about anyone and is a true Gentleman. hes not the best players there ever was but if you take his skills and add his personality to that...then it makes him one of the Greatest there ever was.
I will always remember Laudrup for his humble nature and his unselfishness and intelligence ...he never spoke bad about anyone and is a true Gentleman. hes not the best players there ever was but if you take his skills and add his personality to that...then it makes him one of the Greatest there ever was.
@Sredna9000 What does personality have to do with greatness? Greatness is measured by ability, success, impact to the team, impact on the game and impact on history. Johan Cruyff was one of the most arrogant footballers there's ever been, Romario one of the most lazy and indisciplined, yet they're still considered among the greats of the game.
What makes a great and influential player ? its obvious that the skills of the player is important but the players behaviour off the pitch is of importance too when we talk about idols. Players like Ronaldo, Maradona, Romario, Stoichkov ...fall short in this category they will only be remembered for their qualities on the pitch...while players like Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbauer and Laudrup all had great personalities. I will always remember Laudrup for his humble nature and his unselfishness
@Sredna9000 I'm sorry but I disagree. Greatness is measured by ability, success, impact to the team, impact on the game and impact on its history. Johan Cruyff is among the most arrogant footballers there's ever been, Ruud Gullit ditto, Romario the most lazy and indisciplined, Ronaldo disloyal and ungrateful, yet they're all considered among the greatest to play the game. I think its foolhardy to factor personality so highly when measuring a player's greatness. They are human beings after all.
Honestly. Laudrup was and still is the best player ever played on his position. Ofc zidane was insanely good, but he lacks speed compared to those feet laudrup had in his prime time. And in his passing game laudrup was in my oppinon still better than what zidane ever was. Zidane had his advantage over laudrup in the air :) he was a better header. Thx for great moments Micheal!!!!
If you should compare him with anyone today, it would be Iniesta, Xavi, Fabregas.... but Laudrup just had more flair, was more creative, and was better at passing that them. my opinion. :)
The major difference was he wasnt selfish, I think it was cruyff who said, had he been more selfish he would have score twice as many goals as he did, but he often choose to pass it. That is why he is the king of playmaking in my book.
Maybe C. Ronaldo dribles better is faster and shoots better. But this guy has a view of the play like no one have or had that i have ever seen in my life and he had the skill to make miracles happen on the pitch. If u check percentages of effectiveness with the ball in both passes and shots any player in todays game dosnt stand a snowballs chance in a hell. I will forever miss the purity in what this guy did on and off the pitch. Gentlemen all the way.
Ronaldo doesn't drible better. He just does a lot more "flashy" stuff. Try watching how much movement is wasted when Ronaldo does a stepover. He almost never gets past anyone using that. He's much better when he just uses his speed and acceleration. Messi dribles better than Ronaldo cause he doesn't waste as much energy doing flashy stuff. He is faster than Michael tho and shoots better. Michael = best playmaker ever.
ps. I think he played for Ajax in the 90s and during the Mexico World Cup where he was one of the most gifted young players of the tournament, I read somewhere a Juventus player then?
Brian was a great goal scorer, no doubt, but as you can see Michael had the technique to do almost anything he wanted.. The only thing bad about Michael was that he was not selfish enough.. Which as a fan only makes you love him more! A true gentleman! :D... Best passer ever in football (Yes, even above Zidane)
Yeah a midfield genius and not selfish. Memorable goals for Barca & Real. I think there are 'literal' similarities between the athletes, Michael Laudrup & Zidane (even though his hero was Francescoli)..? Their approach to ball when receiving (kinda protective body position), path of the run at defenders, timing of graceful pauses mid-run, body postures when passing? Laudrup = nimbler and lighter, which was what Cruijff had. Zidane = made more space with his physical strength against defenders..
I think your Rangers feeling makes you not look at both players from a neutral point. because there is no douth that Michael was the better player all aroud. And the club they play for is proof enough. All the respect to Rangers, but Juventus,Barcelona and Real Madrid are and was better team, much better. And i think all my countrymen in Denmark will agree with me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Just because Michael played for bigger clubs than his brother, doesn't nescessary make him better. If that is how it should be measured, Maradona, who is the greatest player of all times IMO, would be a shitty player besides his few years in Barcelona. And personally I think Brian was just as good as Michael, but the press makes gives him all the credit, which I doesn't think is fair.
Laudrup and George Weah can be put into similar categories; amazing players who unfortunately played for national teams who never won the world cup, I see a similar fate for C Ronaldo. Zidane on the other hand won a world cup, euro cup and appeared in 2 finals. Club glory is great but World Cup glory is as good as it gets.
Ronaldo has had success too in the European cup (not winning). 1992...I was like 9! I admit he is a great player, he sticks out in my mind from when I was younger and that is impressive coming from an American kid who got random matches on ESPN back in the 90's.
if you look at Laudrup and Zidane and compare them then laudrup scored every 3,7 match and zidane every 4,7 match if you look at who's stabil outside the pitch it's laudrup is you look at who's the cleanest player on the pitch it's laudrup and how can maradona be such a respected man cause all he do is actin dumb i'm just saying that theres no other than Laudrup!
I think, Laudrup is born in the right country. The Ludrup Jensen family has been a part the Danish historie since 1945, where Finn Laudrup was born in West Copenhagen
He should have been from Argentina. Imagine, Laudrup and Maradona on the same team! The two best driblers I have ever seen. And Laudrup the most genius ever!
ahh the 90's , sweet memories , everything was fantastic back then , the musics , movies , football , the players , ronaldo(the great one) hadji , laudrup , romario , batistuta and many , doesnt anyone miss those days ?? oh well perhaps it might just be me
* Cruyff: "One of the most difficult players I have worked with. When he gives 80-90% he is still by far the best, but I want 100%, and he rarely does that."
* Maradona: "One of the greatest ever."
* Platini: "One of the biggest talents ever. The best in the world on the training pitch, but never used his talent to its full during matches."
* Platini: "Michael had everything except for one thing: he wasn't selfish enough."
is it just me or isnt anyone else fed up of that overrated ugly c*nt platini opening his mouth like his the lord of football or something. No1 gives a toss what u have 2 say u mug
Andres Iniesta's style of play is very similar to Michael Laudrup's style of play, i bet he probably influence Iniesta's game. the differences between the two is height, size and Laudrup was a better finisher in front of goal.
What a great player. Very underrated and sad that not many remember how great he was. Shame he didn't play in euro 92.
Question, when what El Mundo Deportivo video released these highlights starting at 5:30 with goal numbers 228 and etc. Would love to get my hands on that video.

Nabe89 2 years ago 3
Yeah a midfield genius and not selfish. Memorable goals for Barca & Real. I think there are 'literal' similarities between the athletes, Michael Laudrup & Zidane (even though his hero was Francescoli)..? Their approach to ball when receiving (kinda protective body position), path of the run at defenders, timing of graceful pauses mid-run, body postures when passing? Laudrup = nimbler and lighter, which was what Cruijff had. Zidane = made more space with his physical strength against defenders..

When they both played for Denmark you could see the difference
Brian played brilliant but michael also played brilliant and he could make crazy things without help

Both Laudrups were supernaturals. They had different careers, and they both performed amazingly in the DK matches.
It's not right to compare them..

Difference is that Michael was always too good to play for a side like Rangers.

Brian was a judas cunt!
Micheal is king
daniel977 2 years ago
You have to define "judas cunt" and why you call him that?
VikingInvaders 2 years ago 2
What a load of mince. Clearly you are jealous he never played for your shoddy danish club.
gazwel83 2 years ago
haha he started his career at Brøndby
daniel977 2 years ago
@daniel977 So?
Does Denmark only have 1 club then?
gazwel83 2 years ago
GAZ yeah for me its has, what he did is like starting your career at celtic, then when you come home you change to rangers
daniel977 2 years ago
@gazwel83 Ignorant, yes he did..
SuspektFanNr1 1 year ago
I think your Rangers feeling makes you not look at both players from a neutral point. because there is no douth that Michael was the better player all aroud. And the club they play for is proof enough. All the respect to Rangers, but Juventus,Barcelona and Real Madrid are and was better team, much better. And i think all my countrymen in Denmark will agree with me.

( 3-3-4 )
maradona, zidane, laudrup
di stefano, platini, baggio
pelé, ronaldo, van basten, romário.
Not even €15000.000.000 could pay for these ones...

Cool team, but most of these players are non compatible wit each others, so i would use:
Schemeichel
Cafu Maldini Baresi R. Carlos
Figo Davids Laudrup Zidane
Van Basten Romario

Laudrup and George Weah can be put into similar categories; amazing players who unfortunately played for national teams who never won the world cup, I see a similar fate for C Ronaldo. Zidane on the other hand won a world cup, euro cup and appeared in 2 finals. Club glory is great but World Cup glory is as good as it gets.

well, that was a response to someone.. but now i can't find him :P
Countbep 2 years ago
Ronaldo has had success too in the European cup (not winning). 1992...I was like 9! I admit he is a great player, he sticks out in my mind from when I was younger and that is impressive coming from an American kid who got random matches on ESPN back in the 90's.
prrnrngr 2 years ago 2
if you look at Laudrup and Zidane and compare them then laudrup scored every 3,7 match and zidane every 4,7 match if you look at who's stabil outside the pitch it's laudrup is you look at who's the cleanest player on the pitch it's laudrup and how can maradona be such a respected man cause all he do is actin dumb i'm just saying that theres no other than Laudrup!

I think, Laudrup is born in the right country. The Ludrup Jensen family has been a part the Danish historie since 1945, where Finn Laudrup was born in West Copenhagen

* Raúl: "The best I have ever played with."
* Zamorano: "Un genio!", "The reason why I make so many goals, is Laudrup."

* Maradona: "One of the greatest ever."
* Platini: "One of the biggest talents ever. The best in the world on the training pitch, but never used his talent to its full during matches."
* Platini: "Michael had everything except for one thing: he wasn't selfish enough."

Andres Iniesta's style of play is very similar to Michael Laudrup's style of play, i bet he probably influence Iniesta's game. the differences between the two is height, size and Laudrup was a better finisher in front of goal.
kidwalt 2 years ago
And lately Iniesta started faking a lot. Used to really like him. Now hes just above average.

What a great player. Very underrated and sad that not many remember how great he was. Shame he didn't play in euro 92.
Question, when what El Mundo Deportivo video released these highlights starting at 5:30 with goal numbers 228 and etc. Would love to get my hands on that video.

"Shame" is an understatement :-)
The Mundo Deportivo bit of the video is from 1001 Goles de Oro del Barca. I believe it is available on ebay.
