  • There is a hardware fix on XDA that worked for me. Converted my malfunctioned GPS on SGS Vibrant into a GPS navigation beast at least as good as iPhone 3GS GPS. Can't say it's as quick as iPhone 4, but it's very decent nevertheless after the fix.

  • Yh galaxy s accurate to 1 metre or so. But anyone know how i can get different voices on the satnav. Like of celebrities or something?

  • Does the samsung galaxy tab have a built in gps reciever or is it just using 3G for gps navigation? (such as ipad2)

  • Super AMOLED ftw

  • yea I have a Galaxy S and i use the gps all the time when im in the car.... mine is never wrong always spot on....love it......

Although as soon as you hold the bottom of it yes the reception is screwed cause you're covering the antennas.....

Umm you say u dont think u covering the bottom does much to the signal cause ur hands arent that big?......go in settings, about phone, status....then check the signal strength.....lower = better.....now cover the antennas....and watch the magic happen.

  • nice vid m8, where did u get the wallpaper from on the samsung is it preloaded on?

  • the iphone 3gs has waaay worse gps. it is "accurate" if that is the right word.. to about 30 metres..

  • is it integrated satellit based GPS or networkbase GPS??? anyone clear this up?

  • N1 is rubbish loooool

  • i used the GPS on my Galaxy s and it is really rubbish compared even to my old Nokia N70.

  • @feduo45465 i used the GPS on my nokia 5800 and it is really rubbish compared even to the galaxy s

  • how do i start the gps?

  • The screen resolution on the galaxy s is way better than the nexus one. I'm running Darks ROM 9.2 extreme on my galaxy s its fantastic its improved the phone 50% Good video thanks for posting.

  • OMG. I unlocked this phone and brought it to Canada. Now it takes 3+ Minutes at a Window (even in a car) to find a lock.

  • quck question, who is driving lol

  • @theslackergunz Quick answer, no one! lol

  • @theslackergunz It's a Google drives itself car...

  • @Hemorrdroidsnet it is not a google car lol

  • *data, so backup first

  • Update your Galaxy S to the latest 2.2.1 JPX firmware in kies. Your phone will run like a dream. Use the registry patcher if you cant get the update but beware it may install as a KOR product code...so assuming your in the UK you will need to change back to XEU but this will wipe your date so backup first.

The lag issues have been fixed...Now all samsung need is the ext4 filesystem and this phone will be the powerhouse as its hardware intends.

  • Did you have GPS enabled in nexus on

  • I think the SGS GPS when u start moving it will be okay already, cause I have the same issue with my HD2 too where it moves when I am actually standing still, but once u drive off it will be acurate

  • GPS have to be very accurate, there are many roads that are close to each other and something like this on Galaxy S would have cause u to make a wrong turn n waste petrol

  • The GPS may not be accurate enough to sense the few centimeters you shake your hands, but your hand does indeed mess up with the gps sync because you're probably covering the gps antenna with your hand. Basically anything can attenuate a gps signal, from concrete to trees. Anything containing water will be efficient on making your gps unefficient. :)

  • @umloginqualquer Good points. I don't believe this to be the cause of everyone's GPS issues though. My hands just aren't that big...

  • Was it only with the GPS activated? Or with A-GPS too?

  • @janjericho123 pwnes what though? Brainwashing weak people? Yeah, I guess.

  • how dull does that nexus one screen look..

  • @cheechwizzard101 You mean that it looks dull because it doesn't reflect the camera and supposedly acts as a mirror?

  • @ShadowRayzzz no i mean it looks dull because it doesn't have super amoled. if you notice the galaxy s is moving all the time and looks brightert whatever angle you move it in.. super is better than non super :)

  • @cheechwizzard101 That n1 brightness is on low or auto...and if its on Auto, it means theres really no need for such extreme brightness and waste of battery life...

And 'Supper is better then non super' isn't really an argument :P

  • @ShadowRayzzz i know what mean lol... at the end of the day super amoled is brighter than standard amoled. There isn't much between the two phones, so it's a matter of personal choice imo. i prefer super amoled and i like the look of the galaxy s..

  • You must have a special galaxy s, because mine effectively doesn't function in GPS, which pretty much correlates with every other review I have seen.

  • thanks for sharing very nice & clear thanks i love my Galaxy S

  • could it be that the galaxy S moved you all the time in the gps because you were holding it unlike the N1 that was stayed put???

  • @geniXD I don't believe so.

  • @geniXD I don't know how galaxy s responds to movement but my tomtom does and holding it in a hand makes the pointer move/crawl on its map.

  • Please read the title. It says what both phones are... I even announce it in the video too...

  • Ha ha, yes, but tomorrow it gets part exchanged... I'm gonna miss my gadget car :-(

  • @Hemorrdroidsnet hey what typpe of vibrant is that cuz i have vibrant but it doessnt have front camera and that large button in the buttom...

  • @markkloplepol it's not vibrant .. this is the international version of galaxy S ..

  • @estkin if get hat, can it run on tmobile?

  • Fiat Stilo FTW!!! :D

  • @tarunrad although the Galaxy really does in fact have a superior screen, the nexus one looks washed out because the screen protector is a matte one, opposed to the clear screen protector of the Galaxy in question.

So yea, it's better, but as bad as this video makes it out to be.

  • do you need a data plan for the gps to function?

  • @bbunztran No, but you need a data connection for Google Maps to work... (as in, download the maps)

  • I use copilot on my galaxy s and it's good but not brilliant. my battery went from 820% to 48% in less than less than 40min !!!

  • The firmware tested was JG1. I now have JG5 on it, much, MUCH faster.

  • Did you flash it to the last firmware - JG5?

  • wow! the black on the Galaxy makes even the nexus one's AMOLED looks washed out ! I didnt think the difference would be that big ! I need to go check it out in person

  • @tarunrad

It is Super Amoled, Galaxy S you see it! ;)
