I think that the "data not available" answer ment that he didn't know what made him choose a piece of N7 armor to repair himself when there must have been a lot of spare parts he could to use for repair. He just liked it better than some other piece of junk and he didn't know how to explain that...

Ash is in Mass Effect 2, just so long as you don't kill her in 1, assuming your transfer your previous file. If you're just starting Mass Effect 2 without any prior data, and you're playing the male character, she will also be alive. The only way she's not there is if you killed her in 1, or if you're a female character.

Actually, I think this video was referring to one of the ways they were gonna go with ME2. One of them was that instead of Cerberus finding Shepard, the geth got ahold of him and put him back together. They ended up changing it in the end though.

Considering importing a Mass Effect character into Mass Effect 2 is such a big part of the experience (that's what I hear at least; I haven't played Mass Effect 2 yet because I'm waiting for an edition with all of the DLC with it) I doubt BioWare would disappoint by not delivering that.

The problem with that is the fact that EA owns the publishing rights to Mass Effect 2 whereas Microsoft Game Studios owns the publishing rights to the first. You can see the issue there I'm sure.
