(Great job on ranger buddy, i wanna turbo my 2.3 or do a 4bt swap) To try and help the Mazda used to be the couriers twin and I think it started being a replica of the ranger in the 90s not sure, the ranger is a half size truck and the courier is like a 1/4 size truck lol so you could put a 4bt in their but a firewall massage would be in order, ive also seen 6bts in rangers it looks sweet!
@missouri2014 im 14 and i braught a jeep last summer, and i was gonna put a 4bt in there but moneys short right now. The purpose for a 4bt is for somthing small. a 6bt is whats in the 2500 and 3500 diesels by dodge, the main purpose is for things like rangers, dokotas, yotas, trucks that arent as hevy and built with as solid of a frame as a 2500,3500,250,350 etc.
@jake92sc Easy Killer. I'm researching putting a 4bt into a toyota (1991, 4x4) I'm a professional diesel tech and like Imsnelli said, lots of custom fab. My rear axle will hold up if i dont drive like an idiot, and the stock 5 speed (with adaptor plate) will hold up. These engines weigh almost 800 lbs wet. The purpose is delivery trucks and such, who need reliable (less) power and better fuel economy than a 6bt. weight wise, they dont weigh in a lot less than a 6bt tho (mebbe 200lbs less)
@toltec13 what will california say about my cavalier (with out at catalytic conv) 340,000 miles on an origonal motor from 1994, ill probably be told to go home, lol and burns 1qt of oil every 3,000 miles but mainly leaks oil than it burns, but chevrolet stands for Cracked Head Every Valve Rattles Oil Leaks Every Time
We finally did balance the stacks, we put a divider in it like you said, The transmission so far has held up great, lets just keep hoping that it does lol.
Well if you don't have any experiance doing it, it's not easy because their is a lot of custom fabrication involved when it comes to doing that. The original plans was to make this truck 4x4 but it was harder than we expected. so its 2x4
@hondatrx250x1992 Easiest thing to do would be to find a donor vehicle before doing the swap if you want to go 4x4 and the axles will be to wide so you will eithe rhave to have a shop shorten them or get some wide fenders such as a prerunner fender to help cover the tires.
It's an S2 I believe. Designed by Perkins, built by Mazda. Unclear on Mits involvement. Thanks guys! My old Mazda frame and body aren't likely to outlive the mill anyway, but I will keep that Mercedes idea.
The cummins came out of a GMC Bread Van but odd enough it had a ford small block bellhousing with a borg and warner 4 speed behind it, as of now it is coupled to a M5od (Mazda made 5 speed w/overdrive made for ford). The flywheel will bolt to a Ford truck clutch/pressure plate. The 4bt is not that long but very tall. I made my own engine mounts. Dont really beleive it would fit in a mazda but a Mercedes Diesel fits in nicely. There is a video of one one here some where, hope this helps.
My 82 B2200 came from the factory with the Perkins diesel, made on license by Mitsubishi. Was just wondering about length/mounts/weight/bell housing/tranny specs of the 4bt in case somehow my 28 year old body and frame manage to outlast the motor. (Not sure about the possibility of that either - 260,000 miles and counting.)
you sure thats a perk diesel on mitsu licence?? im prettty darn sure its a straight up mazda manufactured engine? i could be wrong though, what s the engine code? i thought those had rf code engines, the same maz motor that was put in the tempos
@ClayPigeonKiller Well it really depends, what body style you are talking about. The Mazda in this video is factory with a Perkins Diesel. I mean you could do it in that one but, you would have to stretch the front end because in the Ranger, The engine is crammed, we are talking like maybe an inch between the fan and Radiator. The Mazda in the video is an 84 I think, so it's still the twin to the Ford Currier. It would have to be a 90’s model.

did you have to do frame fab work to hold this engine?

Nice!!
It does appear his smoke isn't balanced between the two stacks. A simple divider might fix that.
Is the M50D holding up good? I ask because I trashed the ZF in my 4BT ranger last week, and it's supposed to be stronger than the M50D.

Anyone every try to put a 4bt in one of those 80's B2200 Perkins?
daninoregon79 2 years ago
a perkins is a diesel engine. I really dont think you could fit a 3.9 liter 4bt in a mazda. if so it would be more headache than its worth
lmsnelli 2 years ago
@lmsnelli the mazda is the same as a ranger, if you could fit a 4bt in a ranger why wouldnt it fit in the mazda.
