  • this sucks....................................

  • i bet 90s' will be back soon in music, fashion etc...

  • Sounds a lot like PINK FLAG era Wire . . . hmmmm

  • @DrMarcusKane..... Then they've had MIND-BLOWING INFLUENCES!!!... I fucking LOVE Wire!!!...

  • the worst song elastica have never released.

  • this is soo british

  • Brian Ferry meets the cure?

  • @spangleJ hehe; my thoughts exactly; not half bad though

  • @spangleJ Or Adam & The Ants meets Blur?

  • Whats with all the Wire comments? If you know about Wire you should know about Cockney Rebel then see who copies who. Good track sounds good on the album.

  • God they were crap, Britpop gave shite like this airtime when there were so many better bands. Guess it was easier for AR people to find music not too far from london.

  • He's got such a pervy voice.

  • this was the final nail in the glorious reign off 'Brit Pop', then it all went over commercial.

  • elastica cover?

  • First time I heard this I thought, 'I don't remember this Wire song'.

  • Think they heard the ssecond wire album a little too much, eh!

  • @L1v3for3v3R I do hope that was sarcasm :P

  • This entire song is one chord

  • Shite song.

  • BRITPOP RULES!

  • I'd take this over what gets played on XFM these days !

  • I wanna be under the blankie too!!!

  • omg I bought this single what was WRONG with me ???? lol! can't deny I loved it at the time coz I did. Wouldn't be too impressed if this was a new band out now

  • Mosque were the better band.

  • Ive heard that two of the members of this band are banging each other lol

  • @zZHighTimeZz where'd you hear that ????

  • @wicks99 It was mentioned in magazine article about bands that had minor success and what they are doing now.

  • Was so slagged off but in my opinion a britpop classisc!

  • as exciting as the Britpop time was, it was responsible for some utter shit, as seen here!!

  • @bigderekkeene well said !!

  • well said !!

  • @bigderekkeene Ah caaaamm on, this song was seriously catchy.

  • @AlexFruen I assume catchy, means horrendous where you live! LOL

  • @bigderekkeene Well, sure they were pure style over substance and embarrassing but the verses in this song are brilliant.

  • Shaun W Keaveny relentless love of this band sent me.

  • manufactured yes - but still a good track even if it was a poor band

  • TUNE !! had the first album and loved it to bits

  • I remember being at high school and trying to champion this group as one of the top bands in the Britpop movement at the time. What the fuck was i thinking?!! They're shit!! Loads of folk think Oasis and Blur were best from then, but the top band of this time were, in my opinion, Pulp. Oasis may have had more commercial success, as perhaps Blur did, but in all departments of talent Pulp took a huge dump on both and Different Class was perhaps the best album of the time, perhaps even the decade

  • Total Wire rip off, but a good one.

  • Listened to this after a long while today and it shows f*ck all original. It really is poor.

  • love it cant take any thing away from em but i apparently they were even better at showing AandR men to to crack cocaine party's

  • Wait this sounds a little too much like wire...

  • Didn't they once say that although they were crap at music, they were the best dressed band? Is there a difference between this lot and Jedward?

  • they had two great songs; this wasn't one of them.

  • Best Britpop song ever

  • This is pretty beastly

  • I'll take Oasis, Blur, The Verve and quite a few others.. but this lot were total rubbish

  • They might have lasted longer if they learned to play more than one chord.

  • Certainly not my kind of music, but it's still eons better than most of the shit I hear these days. What are those things? Instruments? I remember them!

  • The unmistakable sign that it was all over

  • jeez this takes me back

  • Love it!

  • wow apparently in the 90s people in Camden thought these guys weren't a load of shit, how naive.

  • love his voice!!

  • Wonder if they listened to Wire by any chance??? Not a bad thing mind Wire are a big influence on alot of bands, havent managed to find any vids on here though real shame.

  • @spartan2549 I can see what you mean...I can hear Wire in this song

  • Great song bit of a shit name for a band though!

  • I used to love this. Looking back.... Nah.

  • Not sure whether this has stood the test of time.

Good to listen to for nostalgia purposes though.

  • A bit of Wire, yes.

  • Kaiser Chiefs about 10 years before their time :P

  • you mean Wire 15 years too late...

  • I was expecting this band to sound like Blur or Pulp, instead they sound just like Wire during Chairs Missing era

  • Wow, I just woke up with this song in my head. It was really strange cause I haven't heard this song since I was about 12.

  • A britpop anthem.

  • I don't care of the circumstances on their fame, this is just a catchy song I can bop along too, and that is all i ask of when I want a good song.

  • i love this song ^^

  • The arse side of britpop. . but that's only because I am now a bitter old man. I obviously loved them when I was a whippersnapper

  • This was when music was so good.

  • @KeaneQueen11981 are you sure about that?

  • @KeaneQueen11981 I saw them on this tour ha!

  • I love this song. Does that make me gay?

  • Yeah a bit. Have the same problem :-)

  • The NME has been toilet paper for 15 years now, it's pathetic showbiz crap now. I don't care if the lame 90's surreal copyist Noel Fielding is having a pint, I don't care if Lady Gaga is holding a cup of tea, NME is dead.

  • The guy who turned it into heat magazine for music is gone now and they have a new editor. I think I might give them another chance.

  • i remember when these twats were hyped by the press and the radio lord knows why. long forgotten now thank god.

  • They only had this one song, but it was a good'un. Terrible video though!

  • jarvis cocker meets the cure in 'never enough'

  • A couple of these bods were in the Pulp video which spins round and round. Razmatazz, I think?

Good tune. But yeah, sadly nothing they did otherwise was much cop sadly.

  • Sounds like they want to be Blur-style bouncy pop

  • the tune could maybe pass as a Wire b-side, but the video's horrendous.

  • jesus i remember loving this song, and then getting the album for xmas and being sooooooooooo disapointed..

    Thanks NME for nothing!

  • Why weren't they bigger...oh yeah...I bought the whole CD for this one song (remember that?) and it sucked...

  • I love a bit of lazy 90s nostalgia but this was bad then and even worse now

  • I always liked this song but thought they were trying to hard to sound like the Undertones.

  • WIRE.

  • except its SHIT

  • omg i was like soooooooooooo in love with johnny i thought (and still do)that he was the sexest thing on to legs meet him when i was at the blur mile end gig

bring back britpop i want to be an indie kd again !!!

pull you out or drag you under

  • xfm baby.

  • This is one of those forgotten gems from the 90s (like someone said, when music was the important thing). One thing I've just noticed, is this song based on one chord throughout the whole song? If so, thats genius! (or maybe they had a lazy rhythm guitarist)

  • "when music was the important thing"(?) i'd hate to think it when it was inessential!

  • The guitarist now plays for The Parents!

  • Love it!

  • TUNE

  • These were one of my fav bands back in the day. I saw them live so many times. That was when it was all about the music not how you look like now

  • Obviously Menswear were signed due to their amazing musical ability then

  • these guys were just jumping on the britpop wagon when they released this track! cool though, shame they never carried on making music, the real KINGS of britpop are BLUR, full stop! if anybody doubts this, check out damon albarn's cv...."breath deeper, daydreamer!" genius!

  • suede pulp and blur

  • 13 years later and I'm still in love with them!!!

  • I thought it was only me that still loved them 13 years on! 26 years old, you'd think I'd grown up a bit, but no....classic!

  • listen sunshine, this is fucking class! and the mad thing is the drummer now has a job on BBC 6music

  • Ouch. My brain hurts now. That's really annoying.

  • Wire should have sued these guys as well

  • :-D :-D :-D

  • wow I havnt heard this since it came out!, hated it at the time. then over the years remembered it fondly. after listening to it now - I was right its shit!. but it very funny at the same time. very nostalgic. the 90's were nothing revolutionary b ut so much better than now for music.

  • the singer acts a bit..queer lol but thats makes it funny xD

  • menswear came and britpop died ....

    but i did like stardust

  • i love them and thx for posting..

  • god i remember these .. loved the album..and chris gentry xD

  • Who remembers them?? They lasted one only album

  • I remember playing this song over and over ... those were the days :)Was still at school when this came out!

  • this takes me back :)

  • Where can I get this song???

  • google mp3 grabber

  • these guys were friends with my brother =)

i remember them sleeping in my living room when i was about 10

    haha!

    x

  • That's cool, I loved the sound and look of this band, as well as their songs and subject matter. Bands of that time like Pulp (a band that Menswe@r remind me of) and Rialto looked great, very... Mod-ish. Never saw them live, but still have this album that took me a while to track down.

  • They were from Southend on Sea which says it all, I've lived there before so I know

  • lol yh i agree but this dam song is like fukin meth

  • It may make me a "tosspot" but even years later i love this track and most of the others on the album. As for the manics they were poor live against supergrass, ask, elastica and especially pulp!!

  • you've gotta be kidding!! I've seen all these bands live and the Manics beat them all!!!

October '93, Cardiff Astoria, BEST GIG EVER!!

  • was there at all the indie gigs in the 90's. Best bands live were Manics, Gold over the soul tour, and design for life tour. Early Oasis gigs, of course Radiohead. My Life Story were good supporting Blur (fab!)Carter USM were funny, Most disappointing was Reading 96, the stone roses, and Primal Scream..

  • I used to argue the toss with my girlfriends mate who insisted these tosspots were better than suede. Now I am older and wiser how can anyone have taken these guys seriously when you had the manics.

  • I like to remind a mate of mine who, at the time, said that the Menswear album was the best album he had ever heard!

  • I think it was a great album, but so many great albums came out around that time by similarly great artists that I think this one got overshadowed.

  • omg this brings me back!!!!

    oldschool!

i use to love this band! LOL!

  • This whole album is a keeper. Thanks.

  • Stuart Black where are you now?

  • masterpiece!

  • menswear are shit.i once met simon white and he was a stuck up his own arse cunt.thought he was proper cool but in fact he was a typical prick

  • I can't believe this is here! Thanks for the post! Menswear are cool...

  • how can that cunt out of franz ferdinand alex whatever his name is even sugest that blur/oasis were swimming in a sea of shit with all of the britpop bands around at the time on that popbritannia, fuckin quality bands gene bluetunes elastica these animal men supergrass etc etc how dare him when his band are utter pap diluted talkinheads/pulp! cunt!

  • check out the great Wire for the inspiration / sound behind this

  • a good word to describe a day-dreamer is AMBULSENT

  • A good word to describe a town in the Lake District is Ambleside

  • good stuff...........

  • tune

  • I saw them in Edinburgh when I was 15!!!! Man, they rock....Johnny with his police light hat - *sigh* I was so in love.

  • Thats THistle5's missus was in love, not him in particular - woops.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • Ah the innocence of thinking Menswear were mod.

  • britpop yeah..

  • Tune...

    Thx for the video

  • I loved menswear and Shampoo, I have all the shampoo albums and I have got the menswear one as well...I miss them days

  • Yeah, I got into Shampoo when I was in Japan, because they were apparently huge there?! Such pop perfection is rarely seen, even in pop music.

  • Thanks for posting this. I didn't think anyone would have posted anything by Menswear!

Oh, britpop in the 90s . . . ah, those were the days.

  • Did they ever sing? I rather like it though.
