Go in japan also stands as 5 and that, along with Mifune's race number, made The Mach into Mach 5. The change from Go Mifune to Speed Racer, however... I still don't get it.

It came out in 1997... In fact they released two DVD sets for a whopping $200 a piece. I talked with my father and brother (Speed Racer fans) about buying them, and they looked at me like I'm insane. Told me its a total waste- Which I can't really argue with, so I decided against buying them.

The new series has the same title. MACH GO GO GO (1997 year). I finally got the second DVD set with almost all the episodes that never aired in America. It had some really neat ideas, but overall it wasn't as impressive. Racer X wasn't the focus. The final episodes with time travel and aliens were really weird. But the artwork was pretty consistent throughout. There were no Japanese subtitles either, so unless you're fluent in Japanese you cannot understand what's being said.

I sort of agree. Thats why I haven't much interest in shonen series. Because there are alot of repeats. But, I can't argue against the "mecha-ness" of the new Mach Go because of the fact that it actually has all the functions of what you might call a "racing robot". It can speed, jump, saw off tires, etc. Its no normal car. Maybe the costumes are a bit ridiculous and so are the visors, but not the car so much.

Of all the Speed Racer remakes/sequels, this one is the best one yet, despite a darker tone and some differences with the original, the remake STILL had much more potential than all the others. It's too bad this series was cut short overseas, I remember watching all the episodes before they took it off and I loved it! My only complaint about the American version of the intro was that it was cut WAY too short, shorter than this version AND the original American one.

Excuse me but the "asians" did not rip off Speed Racer. This version here is a "newer" 90s version of the original 60s version that they decided to remake. The Americans translated Speed Racer from the 60s Anime (Japanese Animation) "Mach Go, Go Go!" and only broadcasted the English version to American TV about 10 years later.

Secondly, you can see the first original opening simply by searching up "Mach Go Go Go" on youtube and proof of its authenticity on wikipedia or another site. (Unfortunately youtube does not allow links.) Again, this version is a remake and the Japanese had the right to.

So you know, Mach Go means Mach FIVE but also translates as Mach Five, Go Go!
