i like the way u explain everything coz most tutorials on this most people get confused and the narrator dosent even explain wat he or she is doing. thanks
A PC (as fast as you can afford) running a windows operating system such as XP or Win7. More processor speed and memory and better graphics card would make for an improved experience.
Have you considered using Maya on your Mac for modelling? This product is also offered by Autodesk (they purchased it a while ago) and would be preferable if your PC is slow.
I'm getting a new PC and im looking to run 3d studio max and unity 3d to their highest capabilities, it's a long shot but do you know if ther's any special requirements? Thanks =P
A fast processor, lots of memory, plenty of hard drive space. The more money you have the better the computer and the faster the software will run. The rest will be up to you.
Never used Unity3D so unable to comment on this specific software but I should think all of the above applies :-)
@BLESSMAN11 Sorry for the delay but holidays were calling.
Have you tried using the Attach command in the NURBs command panel to join the splines together for further editing. Or applying an Edit Spline modifier to the NURBs curve (not sure if this would work and my Max is currently out of action)
You need to explain a bit more before an answer can be given. If you mean to change the view within the viewport then you need to use the ALT key with the middle mouse button to rotate. Have a look at the keyboard shortcuts for panning, rotating and zooming the viewports.
You click and drag. Drag type has to be set to Bezier or Smooth. You can also edit spline's vertices by selecting them and then right-clicking and choosing smooth/bezier/bezier-corner. It's your choice.
If it's two seperate meshes you can use the "Attach" command in the "edit poly" modify panel, or use the boolean command in the create panel, or if you mean spline objects then you could connect them in the modify command panel.
I depends on which elements you want to become an expert in I suppose. If you were to concentrate on just modelling you could become proficient in months. Texturing, animation, special effects etc take more time and the software is evolving to include new features each released version. 3 hours a day, if it's not your main profession would be quite a good amount of time on top of work. Good luck with your learning.
Hello, I have experience with Softimage XSI but now I'm trying to learn some 3dmax. I have a very nooby question, how do you rotate the camera in the way you do it at 2:10?
it's easier to change the angle and overall form of the horn so you don't have to keep remaking them, this one moddel can be applied to anything that uses a horn

@MarcusDesigns is it possible to make a shape using (making a union) of both a nurb curve and spline lines

3D studio max is used to make for example something like cutscenes in video games as well, correct?
TheDistantWorlds 2 years ago
Game engines would usually do that... 3Ds max can have an animation output though, so you could in theory create a cut scene for a game.
Everything you see in a game can generally be created in 3Ds max, some of the top studios use it.
leakingdarkness 2 years ago
Create your meshes and animations in Max, and export them to your game engine. Or render the animation for the cut scene video.

Paumonsu 2 years ago
The easiest way to rotate the view is to hold down the 'Alt' key and the middle mouse button while moving the mouse.
You could also use the 'orbit' button found in the bottom-right corner but the keyboard/mouse shortcut is quickest.
