  • Hi,

where can I find the coconut husks?

    What do you have?

    Thanks

    Cora - Italy

  • hmm why did you chop all three coconuts if you only gonna put it in the one little jar. Shoulda just done one for the demo to avoid the mess and poured it from those glass measuring cups.

My bf just uses one big chopping knife to chop it open. A couple of chops and it normally opens and I like to eat the coconut meat with the juice. Yummy. Didn't know it had a lot of sugar though. Good to know.

  • How to fix a pickled water kefir? My kefir has white spots on them and lately their making the water so thick. I used 4 cups spring water, 4-6tbsp of white granulated sugar, and 2 dates.

  • Can i use packaged coconut water? it's organic and its seems high quality

  • I noticed you used a metallic spoon and strainer, isn't that bad for the kefir?

  • I read where people with hiv are using coconut water to help kill their virus. Apparently something about its chemistry breaks down the coating on the virus , allowing the body to defeat it.

  • The way to open the coconut is to hit it with a heavy knife on the top four times so that you cut out a square. No need to cut off the flesh on the top. That way you can also take out the meat easily.

  • Why did you put in the square pan before spilling it? Am I confused?

  • no metal

  • 3 'eyes' in a coconut on top- 1 is always soft and allows acces, easily.

  • its actually pronounced keh-FEER :)

  • @phishead07 you are right ! so many vids on tube and I have to find a vid with a correct pronunciation yet

  • Any one else have a hard time finding coconuts that haven't gone bad? I tried one at whole foods and one at a natural food store near me...both old and brownish liquid.

  • See Chef Dan's instruction on coconut creme to see the best way to crack the coconut. Fast and easy with a heavy cleaver. Juice comes out faster and easier to get at the meat for other things.

  • I bought my kefir grains on ebay.

The grain reproduce very quickly we can t keep the years.

  • yes. where can we buy kefir grains???

  • where can I get "kefir grains"?

    thanks,

    Peace

  • @TheSweetpeace seach free kefir grains and a site will show up where you canget them for free ...cept for postage o course..

  • easier way to crack the shell. move your left hand away from the coconut. with knife in your right hand, strike the top of the shell, away from the center with the heel of the blade. it should go into the shell completely. move the heel of the blade back and forth, and the top will lift off in a perfect circle.

  • I was sure you were going t cut your hand off! Have you ever thought of using a power drill instead?

  • sounds dangerous

  • can u just drink the juice from cocunut?

  • Yes, it's sweet too!

  • hey! you shouldn't use a metal strainer...its not good for the water kefir.Use plastic strainer.

  • HE IS RIGHT!!!! metal strainer is NOT good , plastic or wood tools. The metal ions can KILL the kefir.

  • @sergiomarcen Solubility of metal ions is so incredibly low that you would not see any difference. Solid metal is not the same as metal ions

  • Cool--I hadn't seen how to open coconuts with a knife. I usually give them a couple whacks with my machete.

  • Hi Steve

will milk kefir grains continue to grow and multiply using just the young coconut water method?

  • Where can I get milk kefir grains? water kefir grains?

  • Thank you for this video! Probiotics has been missing from my diet for a while. Is it best that one uses several different fermented foods in their diet or is 1 fermented food daily good enough?

  • That's an ingenious way to break into one of those young coconuts! I fought with a couple last year and I am thoroughly enlightened.

  • Wonder if milk Kefir grains will survive continuous batches in coconut water. I tried my milk kefir grains and they seem okay for 1 batch. They work with milk again. I'm not sure I should keep on cycling them in coconut water. How do I know if they are dying in my coconut water?

    Another question.

I've also tried coconut water with water kefir grains also. In the 2nd batch, my water kefir grains turn cloudy. They were clear from the first batch. Any ideas what's going on.

  • I would put the milk kefir grains in the coconut water once.. Then use some of your coconut water, maybe 1/4 cup as a starter for another batch since its rich in bacteria. You can do a few generations like that before you need to reintroduce the milk grains again. That's usually what I do.

  • Water kefir grains I've found to be abit more needy and can get cloudy and slimy if you use them in different ways.. I've had them go bad before. Its not such a bad thing to rinse water kefir grains in filtered water to make sure they are clean for a new batch.

  • Indian and Pakistani markets will also carry them they are big on coconuts and mangos.

  • Coconut Water mmm i looooove it!!! i like to drink it straight from the coco ^^

  • HELLO EVERYONE!!! CAN I USE HOMEMADE SUNFLOWER SEEDS MILK INSTEAD OF COCONUT WATER?? ITS REALLY HARD TO GET GREEN COCONUT IN LONDON.. THANKS... Andrea

  • HHmmmm.. That might ferment well.. never tried that.. one way to find out... :-)

Do you have any asian markets in London? If you do, you should be able to get green coconuts there. Sometimes they sell green coconut water in a can.. not as great but still pretty alkaline.

  • thanx for the tip. one question: here in the east we believe they should never touch metal, it is bad for the grains. what do you think?

  • Hello,

Thanks for the video response.. that's a great way to get into the coconut.. seems there's no completely easy way. A friend of mine uses a standard power drill.. just gotta make sure the drill bit is nice and clean :-)

When I lived in west palm beach.. I would go by peoples houses and ask if I could take their coconuts.. they were so plentiful. I cut 60 of them one day

  • I suggest you do, as they reccomend with eggs, that you use a seperate bowl to pour first into, to make sure it is not racid, before adding it to the main batch bow.

  • but you didnt show the how d finished product looks cuz i hv no idea wat it wud look like

  • I'll make sure I add that to my next video.. it actually fizzes abit.. mainley a clear liquid.. tastes like champagne to me :-)

i sometime put abit of plain cranberry juice in (Just Cranberry) not the sugared kind from the supermarket.

  • coconuts are readily available in d tropics

  • Yes they are.. when I lived in Florida I would pick them but now live in New England and get them at a Thai Supermarket. Whole foods carries them but they are more than twice the cost for the same thing. Since they are used in Thai Cooking and thought to be healthy for pregnant mothers, they seem to move faster in the Thai Supermarket I've found

  • thanks for the good info

  • you should not use metal with granes... it kills it... but this clever man does it :(((

  • Dominic from Australia has been successful using stainless steel strainers and I've found that my kefir grains seem to multiply very quickly and are very healthy. It is recommended however that you use plastic over metal though. I appreciate the comment and my next video will not have the metal strainer :-)

    Thanks for your comment! :-)

  • Thanks fo the video, but come I agree with poster above: GET A PITCHER!

  • Yes.. I agree.. good comments!!

  • How long are suppose to let it ferment for?

  • I usually let it ferment for about 2 days

  • Dude... invest in a cheap 2 liter pitcher; Then you can just strain directly into that AND use it to cleanly pour the liquid. No bowl or funnel or baking dish to clean up afterward, just the pitcher.

  • I usually just us a nail to put a hole in the bottom of the coconut since it's much softer down there. After the water is drained I wrap it in a towel and use a hammer to break it open so I can eat the thin meat inside.

  • Yeah.. a nice CLEAN nail would work well :-) I like the Towel Idea since that stops the coconut from moving and allows you to crack it really easily!! good info! :-)

  • Great information. I want to see how to make use of the inside of the coconut as well. Where is this video? This stuff is great. It has really helped some friends of mine.

  • The video is inside my place in the northeast :-) The inside meat can be blended up into a cream or a chunky paste then you can put some milk Kefir in or Kefir grains and let it sit for 24 to 48 hours until soured.. then I put Stevia in it and just abit of cranberry juice that doesn't have sugar.. it turns it pink and gives it a nice flavor

  • you can eat the meat of the coconut with a spoon or for a delicious treat take the meat from about 3 cocos and the water from one and blend it with about a cup of mac nuts, some raw agave nectar and one vanilla bean, you need a pretty good blender to get it creamy, then chill and use as a dip for fruits and berries, warning!!! its more addicting than crack

  • Agave is the HFCS of the natural world. Do some research on it before you use it too much.

  • Would raw Agave be better or worse than the regular Agave in stores?

  • I work at a co-op in my area and i can get tons of young coconuts pretty cheap, if anybody cant get them let me know and i will figure out a way to get you some, maybe ebay?

young coconut water is identicle to human blood plasma, so its super hydrating and you can actually feel it when you drink it right out of the coconut, its a rush!!!

  • Thanks Dave.. good information.. what part of the country are you in? yes.. its extremely alkaline.. mineral rich. :-) Great stuff .. even more beneficial fermented

  • does anybody know where I can get cheap coconuts in nyc?

  • Thanks for the advice, I went to a Japanese market today and couldn't find any young coconuts, but I did buy some Korean Kimchi and some cheap sea weed! The sea weed at Vitamin cottage and whole foods are sooo expensive! I would like to know if you sell these kefir grains. I have the body ecology starter, but I never got the grains you show.

  • If you live near a major city, I would venture out to a few asian stores. The one that I get mine from is a Thai store. They promote the coconuts as a good thing to drink for women who are pregnant. I do have grains that you could buy.. My website isn't totally up but can create a link for you to pay with paypal. Send me an email if you would on this site and we can arrange something :-)

  • This is great! I read the Body Ecology diet myself, and I have tried to make this, except I used the old brown coconuts, didn't really work, I mean it did, but it was chunky with fat oil..

  • thats so cool you've tried.. Whole foods sells the green coconuts for about 3 bucks a piece and my asian market I get them from charges about 149 a piece. good luck and feel free to ask any questions
