It is really clear that most of those commenting on this topic have no idea what they are talking about. Obvously the events in Vietnam are something they only have heard about from some liberal professor who filled their heads with theoretical crap. They don't even know how to communicate without using profanity every other word which shows their lack of intelligence as well as the lack of education. Did I say professor? That would be giving them credit for far too high of an education!
Were u there? Did u see what the VC and NVA did to innocent civilians, women and children? The American soldiers tried to protect them until their own military could do it but just like in Iraq and now Afghanastan the politicians who commit the country to war become chicken when election time is near. Do u think people enjoyed WWII? They wanted their sons and dads home then too. We should not go into another UNDECLARED war.
@sgn142 Why don't you support your claims? You words are so filled with emptiness.
Walter Cronkite stopped being a newsman reporting all the facts on both sides of the issue and reported only his personal view. Just like today's poor excuse for newsmen, they only "report" what the administration gives them in press releases. Have you watched the news, or any of the debates? It should be obvious.
Thank the lord the US pulled out because they had no reason to be there. And if they hadnt pulled out I think my people wouldve been wiped out in northern Laos.
Near the end of the war, we had lost more than half of our Hmong men and the communist soldiers remained close to 70,000 in northern Laos. Laos was recruiting soldiers for the Vietcong the whole time and one reason my people had hold its place in northern Laos and not give it up is because they knew the jungle just like the Vietcongs and Pathet Lao. North Vietnam and Laos were determined to not let the US win the war.
Also, the Vietcongs and Pathet Lao knew the terrain and used the environment to their advantage by moving forces through Laos into South Vietnam. My people (Hmong) were recruited by the CIA to fight the Vietcongs and Pathet Lao in northern Laos for 10 years, preventing the movement of supplies and soldiers of the communist regime from North Vietnam and Laos into South Vietnam aka The Covert War in Laos. We were outnumbered 30,000 to 70,000 in the beginning of the war.
Youre foolish to think the the US was going to beat the Vietcongs. The Vietcongs had the Laotion prime minister and soldiers (the pathet lao) in Laos to back them up yet Laos was officially declared as a neutral country due to the Geneva Accord. In actuality, a lot if not most of the communist soldiers were hiding in Laos and their intent was to prolong the war and dishearten the Americans physically and mentally.
Cronkite, IMHO, was single handedly responsible for the public turning against the war efforts following Tet. The military had the enemy almost defeated, in fact in recent years some of them had wondered why we had not finished them off. But with public opinion negative and DC not allowing the military commanders to finish the job, it was inevitable that eventually we would end up like it did. For me personally, it might have meant that I would not have had to go to war.
Walter Cronkite should have been tried as a traitor beside Jane Fonda. This was the beginning of the liberal media that serves our daily propaganda today. Journalism died in the 60s.
@UglyMerican Actually there were a lot of familys who wanted their fathers and son's back home-we had been i vietnam since 1958 by 1968 we wanted our soldiers back home their were 2 men on my street who died in vietnam around 1966 and too see the pain on thier love-ones faces was difficult to watch both guys were like 19 years old-Nixon did the right thing in ending the war-
thanks for the upload! I watched all of it. There's just something about the way news was covered before my time that just captivates me. After watching Vietnam in HD a few months ago I have been so fascinated with the Vietnam War, for good but mostly for worse. Thank you to all who served in that hellish enviroment.
@EIGHTYEIGHT3 Yes, but, he puts a positive spin on everything including this war and the Kennedy assassination. Yet even he admits that the US could not win in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive and that there was more than the official story when it came to JFK. If Kronkite cannot even back you up anymore, you must be wrong!
