  • The US Navy had 3 fighter bombers: Corsair II, Intruder and Phantom. Why did they develop 3 different aircraft that could perform the same duty? And what is the difference between the 3 aircraft?

  • @diadorim1234 Actually they were different & not made at the same time. The F-4 Was designed as a fleet defense fighter. Job? defend the fleet from enemy jets & escort the attack planes. The A6 is a all weather precision strike plane. Job? Fly at night & weather with bombs or missiles with radar & infra red sensors. The A-7 was a replacement for the A4 as a light attack plane.

  • @diadorim1234 Also for a a lot of years the USN had two sizes of carrier. WW2 Essex class ships & the newer super carriers. The Small Essex decks could not handle the F-4 or A5 & A6. So the need for jets like the A-4 & F-8 Crusader to do the same jobs.

  • this is lik top gun

  • oo8devlin-

You are a dumbass. Why don't you go live in communist Vietnam, China or Cuba and see what fascism is? The US wrote the book on freedom, not fascism! Jackass.

  • @008devlin Not that I'm necessarily disagreeing (I haven't seen this movie since I was little and didn't understand it, I just liked the planes) but it IS a war story about bomber pilots in Vietnam; there's gonna be some macho camaraderie and possibly even some bombing involved - Would you have made it differently so it didn't seem like propaganda, or do you think it's just a story that doesn't deserve to be told?

  • wtf didn't danny glover play the same role somewhere else? oh wait that was with gene hackman

  • I prefer the original book "Flight of Intruder" by Stephen Coonts.

  • Haven't seen this movie yet. Saw that it was one of 4 movies made with the USS Ranger. Did notice the VA-145 insignia on one bulkhead. I rode the Ranger for all together year and half with VAQ-131.

  • Danny Glover the Commie !

  • "I grounded you!"

    "I am on the ground"

    LOL

    Remember the phantom shitter?

    LMAO

    Great movie

  • A six pack and pizza !

    F**KING funny ! !

  • Intruders!!! My Uncle flew this in '71 out of Sydney, awesome planes he has always said.

  • its a pitty Brad Johnson is not making many films now a days, this is absolutely one his best.

  • @TheSparkyG I loved the book Flight of the Intruder and the movie was just as good. I completely agree. It's too bad they don't make movies like this anymore, where it's more substance than special effects, bad acting, weird visuals and a horrible plot.

  • @336kgf I agree, movies now a days stand out so much due to the fact that they stick with the old fashioned stuff so that their stunts looks realistic. I just thought Brad Johnson in this film was fantastic! I should really read the book as well.

  • EA-6B pawns the intruder :D

  • @jumpyjedi The Prowler and the Intruder were used for completely different purposes. The EA-6B is strictly for electronic warfare, aka killing radars. The Intruder was for low-level precision bombing. The Intruder could do some of the things the Prowler could do, but not vice versa. The Prowler can't carry bombs or air to ground rockets. The Intruder is long gone and the Prowler is being replaced by the EF-18G Growler.

  • @336kgf, yes. But during Operation Iraqi Freedom, the EA-6B carried HARM missiles. Everything you said is pretty much accurate. I used to work on EA-6B and F-14 electronics. When I was leaving the military, the EF-18s were phasing in.

  • @raby760 How much of a pain in the ass were the Tomcat and the Prowler to work on? I've heard the Hornet is much easier for routine maintenance.

  • @336kgf, yes a lot easier. F/A-18 techs used to argue that point with us F-14 techs. I can't go into details but some F/A-18 equipment used to come into my workcenter for the techs who were assigned to a different bench. The F-14 was a faster, superior fighter, which burned less fuel and could also perform attack and recon missions with TARPS, so I liked the F-14 for many reasons. But.....

  • ..... (continued)... The reason why the F-14 and EA-6B were a pain in the ass is because the electronics were older technology which tend to break more easily. Also, older planes themselves tend to have more wear and require more maintenance.

  • @raby760 Is it true that changing an engine on an Intruder/Prowler was incredibly labor intensive and needed a lot of people involved?

  • @336kgf, I'm not sure because I wasn't in the AD (Aviation Machinist Mates) department. But I remember that F-14 engines did require several people to remove them. As for the Prowler, it seems as if a lot of parts from that aircraft required many workers to remove/install them. I had to help move/store and inspect Prowler transmitters. Those things weigh about 300lbs each, and we had a lot of them.

Also, I just uploaded the ending theme/credits for Flight Of The Intruder...

  • Hey? New Guy 1? New Guy 2? Commenting below ... that's a joke; for those wearing their 'feelings on their sleeve.' Anyone seen the 'courts martial' ending to this? I can't find it - anywhere. Looking for Quote - "These Gentlemen just did what the President (R.M. Nixon) just told us to do" Unquote - in reference to OP -Linebacker II. / Oh' man, I'll be so glad to be in Afghanistan, or, anywhere outside our country when this protest shit moves from virtual bitching to the streets. Bye Bye!

  • funny

  • An excellent albeit underrated pilot movie. Flight of the Intruder gave the genre a new flavor with it being a bomber movie. In terms of the intensity of the flight combat scenes this flick was just as exciting as Top Gun.

Grafton: This is the end of Devil5-O-5, say goodbye asshole! Eject eject eject!

    Cole: Goodbye asshole!

  • Why is it Trendy to have a Narrator of trailers sounding like a Smoker, or suffering from a throat illnes?? It's not cool, it's GAY!

  • This was a good film in its day, but looking at the fx look shit!

  • white house just wouldnt let the military do what had to be done. If the us had been able to invade the north bomb the rail lines and the airports and mine the harbours the north would have fallen in the first year. 90 000 american mena nd a few women plus a few million vietnamese would still be alive. Navy drivers rule.

  • @swastikausa

Don't blame just the White House. Congress was controlled by communists (or at least sympathizers) who did everything they could to hobble the war effort.

In the end, S. Vietnam fell to 4 armored corps of NVA, because our Congress would not let us keep our promise and go back when the north invaded.

  • I was an AQ with the VA-165 Boomers on the Indy when we made this flick on the Indy. VA-196 hated us, but Paramount wanted the best squadron on The Rock and of course that was us! Danny Glover was cool he come to the shop and shoot the breeze with us.

Defoe was too stuck up. Of course for most of us the scenes we were in got cut. I was in in the crash on the flight deck barricade scene.

    But it was a blast!

  • Rossanna Arquette is quite hot but this trailer shows literally ALL her screen time in this movie..

    no kidding

  • Favorite line: Say goodbye asshole!....Good bye asshole (eject from plane).

  • @wirerail Nope the best line is Alpha Mike Foxtrot-or adios mother fucker.

  • Damn Good movie!

  • I wouldn´t say that I completely disagree with 801AV8R, since I think that this is one of the better aviation movies that I have ever seen, but I think that The Bridges at Toko-Ri, 633 Squadron and Dambusters could also compite for the big prize in this category don´t you think so ?

  • This is, in my opinion, the single best aviation themed movie ever. It's better than the right stuff, the battle of Brittan and it blows the DOORS off of Top Gun!

  • I totally agree with you. Great cast with a great script based on a book written by an Intruder pilot who served in Vietnam. Top Gun was good and is still one of my favorites, but that movie had a lot of flash in it, with very little combat. This has more of "the mud, the blood, and the beer" as my grandfather liked to say.

  • I knew one of the A6 guys from the squadron involved in the movie shoot. He said that those Skyraiders (civilian flown-Steve Hinton and company) flew really low. You can see a bit of it in this trailer.

  • haha ya your right

  • Would've been so cool if an A-6 crew or a few crews would have done something like that to downtown Hanoi!

Would not have won the war but damm it would have been good payback anyhow!

  • I was a crew member of the USS Independence when they filmed this in December 1989.

  • so was I.

    WEPS/ G-3

  • Deck / 1st Div.

  • @jasbigj Love that movie, I bought the Blu Ray recently.

  • I would shag rosanna arquette rotten.

  • Then, or now?

  • Both.

  • WOP in DA WOODPILE was in the trailer HAHAHA

  • Camparelli with the Lolli 2:19

  • I have flown in the Skyraider in the end scenes of this vid. I flew with the stunt pilot from the movie and we recreated the low level pass for an airwhow. 350 knots at 50 feet into a 4 g pull up to a wingover. Very exciting...and dangerous.

  • @TJDOZIER1 wow and I kisses tom cruise during the shooting of topgun but that was after I flew with michael ironside

  • @hillena

Flying in warbirds does it for me,

Tom Cruise and Michael ironside do it for you,

    everybodys happy.

Except I actually do get to fly in warbirds, have you ever kissed Tom Cruise?

  • @TJDOZIER1, you killed Cole! lol! Jokes aside,

Great flying! Bravo Zulu, and you have a great channel too!

  • @TJDOZIER1 Sandy low lead , Sandy low lead . This is Cole five-o-five.....

  • the Jake Grafton novels are better then the movie, but the movie wasn't that bad, I think Brad Johnson fits Jake Grafton perfectly

  • This trailer makes me not want to love this movies, but i still do.

  • Totally. This is the worst trailer ever for one of the best movies of its kind.

  • Sad thing is that so much of great flying sequences didnt make it into the movie.

  • oh my god the clips from the trailer are like the SHITTIEST/MOST STUPID parts of the film, and the narration is totally arbitrary. "We used up all the good names." Like that's the point of the movie....what the fuck dude. It's like some youtube pinhead put it together. FUcking AWESOME MOVIE by the way

  • This one of the trailers put out. An earlier one was much better with really good music to go with it. I read the book long before the movie came out and although I liked the movie, I was a little dissapointed.

  • Im gettin too old fo this shiiiit....................RIIIIIIGGGGSSSSSSS!

  • and im not lieing about this, my dad was in this movie, my dad was in the navy at that time and it was the boat he was one, they were shooting a movie on it while he was on it. that black guy is one of my dads friends.

  • You know their full of shit when their opening line is " And I'm not lieing about this..." Ahh haa yeahh okay.. Don't worry we believe you...

  • I want to see this movie again!

  • What kind of plane were those Sandies, those twins that came there towards the end and drop the cover fire for Jake? Thanks for the help.

  • Douglas A-1 Skyraider

  • It sounds fine to me.

  • yeh some people r just grumpy =P

  • Do You Realize It's Way Off? The Audio And The Footage Is Out Of Sync! It Makes It Look Like A Comedy!Such A Great Movie Does Not Deserve This Kind Of Treatment. But I Guess It's The Best You Could Do. God I Hate It When You Tube Does This Shit!!
