@NeverEndingEmpathy Its a tradition that they do in a bunch of junior and minor hockey arenas throughout North America around Christmas. When the home team scores their 1st goal, the fans throw the teddy bears onto the ice, and everyone one of those teddy bears are donated as Christmas presents to hospitals and charities. This is very popular in Calgary, Alberta and Portland, Oregon.

We do this in Utica, NY but I've never seen a shower like this. Insane. Our only 2 hockey claims of fame are: 1. Some of the movie Slap Shot with Paul Newman was filmed. 2. Martin Brodeur played a season with our Devils.

Why cant they do this at NHL games?

@bukakee1 - NHL teams don't attract the same local promoters that would do this type of thing - namely they draw national advertising that is more interested in their bottom line than the community. Also, a team often represents an entire state or province whereas numerous local teams represent each area of the state or province.

As far as tosses go, this appears to be one of the more dramatic on Youtube. Thanks for posting this one, even if it is now four years old!
