A master drummer and maker of segmented, stave, and solid wood drum shells
told me that once you play wood drum shells as opposed to laminated, you may not want to play glued laminated drums ever again.Yes,it's a matter of personal
preference and for those who are in love with the sound of wood.
I saw a PDP snare in Sam Ash that had horrible snare beds -- the corners were almost putting holes through the bottom head. Mass-produced in Mexico. Not bad for the money, I guess, but lack the attention to detail and overall quality of more expensive drums. You get what you pay for.
I bought a PDP Platinum kit in March 2010. I played about 25 live shows last summer plus spent some time in the studio with them. They are holding up great. Several people have commented how dead they sound in this video. I assure you they are not at all dead. In fact, I changed the stock heads because I like a little less sustain. I love my PDP kit.
got a discontinued pdp cxr kit 8-ply maple, 24x22 bass, 12, 14, 16 toms 14 matching snare... gotta tell you i'm not letting this one go, had other brands, sonor (wich i really like) couple tama's and a pearl, and the pdp's have sorprised me, that out of the box thing is just a lie, tho the factory heads are decent, got 2-ply remos pinstripes (hydraulics) on toms, and evans 2 coated, full tone, warmest, best sounding (live & studio) kit i've owned...
That was my point: DW's are way too expensive. Nice drums but I can't justify the price tag. I don't play DW's (1986 Tama Granstar) but I will say this, I recently played a PDP kit (Platinum Series) and at the local Guitar Center and I was impressed with the sound. But for $2,200.00, I'd probably stick with Tama. My original comment was pointed at the sales pitch of "right out of the box".
@XDrummerSteve Dang, man. No need to be so harsh to us PDP owners. I think I speak for EVERY ONE of us when I say we all wish we could play DW, but drums of such high caliber are QUITE expensive. :)
To me, for example, playing a PDP kit is the closest I can get to playing a DW, and even though is not the same, it's still a damn good feeling.
As I watched the video, I noticed that none of the drummers were what you would call great drummers they were just ok.. Now go to the DW site and tell me is just an ok drummer on there?
i have pdp 805 series. i just uses basic heads, which comes with the drums. it sounds damn good, but i tried with ambassador coated heads on, and it was just bloody amazing' ! Go for it. They're worth the money!
I would think by now that everyone would know that any drum with good heads recorded through $100,000 worth of recording equipment is gonna sound good lol
@theDrumkilla You seem to be missing something in that mix. You may get more drums for cheaper. Yes i can buy a set for hundreds cheaper than any other big name brand; but you are missing the sound of them. They are ok for beginners, but the artists in this video must be tone-def, because those drums sound like shit.
I have played a PDP, and have owned their equipment. Their equipment broke wore out, or never fully satisfied, and what broke, did so in a couple months of being used.
i have the pdp EZ kit ($250 w/hardware) and they sound as good as my neighbor's pearl forum set, which one drum alone on that is almost as much as the PDP EZ set. they have a really good tone, and especially for only being 250 w/hardware,
I love DW drums, and Pacific drums certainly look sweet, and from the ones I've played they sound almost as good... but man, the recordings in this video make the kick and toms sound like crap. They are mixed horibly, the kicks sound plasticy and the toms have no tone... ultimately there's no bass at all in those recordings.
But I know they sound better in person, it's a shame they didn't do a better job mixing those... I would never use a kick that sounded like that.
hahaha Castillo's kit was all rattling and crap. i thought the lower toms were about to break off the stand. BUt i think the best out of all those drummers is probably castillo and next would be perkins.last brain.hahaha i started with a pacific kit and i think they sound awesome. they are truly magnificent. its sad though that they employ mexicans to have cheap labor.
I think its all really stupid. To be fair all highend kits sound good, no matter what brand. Sure there are some slightly better ones, but you really cant say a Dw is better over a sonor sq2 or a Ludwig. So its all about what you prefer. Its only with cheaper and intermediate kits you can hear a differance between the brands. And my sonor 3005 sounds better than the pacific drums.
Why do these little kids like you think they can measure strength against 25yr drummers. I saw your videos. You can buy a real DW but you cant buy talent.
I compare pdps to Dw the way a guitarist compares epiphones les pauls to Gibson les pauls. They sound about the same, but one depreciates in value fast while the other just increases in value over the years.I love these kits they are great for the road and to record your first work. That way you wont kick yourself for spending alot and your band never takes off haha.
They sound like shit out of the box. Even well tuned they sound a little high. But with diff. heads They do sound very close to Dws. If you dont own a kit you will never know. So be stupid a pay 6 times more for the DW brand. After my first pdp kit I will never change to another brand. They are cheap so it doesnt hurt to knock em around a bit.
that's what people say if they have a pdp and never played a dw and want a dw, check out my dw on my videos, then you'll know how small a brain and dick you have.
Saw your videos, and honestly not impressed. Your solo sucks ass, and anyone can play covers. I dont understand why you 3 week drummers with a DW think they are cool just cause you have a gay band. I laugh at you and your gay fame dreams. And about the small brain, well you are the one who seems to have down syndrome, I will start a donation for you. You can use the money to buy yourself some lessons.
besides they`re massproduced in mexico, please admit that those are really cool kits... DW has always innovated the world of drums and I think that behavior will last decades.
Not trying to be nosy, but its definitely just the mics on the cam. Drops off a lot of the real tone. I've gigged with dw, pacific, pearl, tama, sonor, and yamaha. Pacific cx and dw definitely gave some of the best full bodied sounds. Just my opinion though.
What a load of crap, the drummers are obviously lying. The drums sound like high pitched cardboard boxes to me. Massproduced in Mexico to maximize profits.
will someone PLEASE tell me why these fuckin Mexcican made drums COST so freakin'much!?!it probaly dont cost as much as $15.00 to make a fuckin' 7 piece set! HUH?
Considering that Pacific LX, CX, and MX kits are made of the same maple as DW drums and you can buy a whole Pacific CX kit for the cost of getting only a DW bass drum I do not understand your comment.
what is it you are not understanding? why aren't they made in america? NAFTA is a bitch,...huh? illegal aliens...why can't they get their country on their feet? Our automobiles are made there, for hundreds! and they sell them to us for 10's of thousands! why can't they sell us drums for just a few hundred dollars more than what they make them for? the labor and wood probaly cost less than $100.00!!! come on...THINK!!!!!
You ignorant fuck. What is the relationship with illegal aliens and NAfTa. Two very diff. topics. NAFTA has to do With free trade agreement between Canada, US and Mexico. And illegal aliens is just people crossing the border. Put it together NafTa is us producing over there and shipping here, while Illegal aliens is them crossing our borders to work here. If anything we are fucking them, who the fuck do you think benefits from the large profits, not them but DW does.
I played on my PDP kit for years until I got my DW. The PDP kit is ok. Mine had lugs that were not drilled incorrectly and shitty bearing edges cause of the wood quality. But hey, what do you expect for $600?
the camcorder either didnt have a shotgun/external mic or the tone was being lost in the type of room being played in. Having a PDP MX all maple kit, there is more tone than anything; more low end.
its just the quality of the video its actually a good quality video but anytime you put something on the web the audio will not be as great. i own a pacific kit it sounds just as good as the DW my friend has
