I notice that the program shows great art - incredible artistry. I don't have an issue with this. What about the walls full of black painted letters that have nothing to do with the great artwork? No shading, no images, no textures, There is a lot of stuff painted on walls that is purely defacing. There is nothing expressive or "art form" about many of this. Is this to be encouraged?

In my opinion, gang member graffiti is usually just tags of the initials of thier gang, or thier nickname thier gang gives them. I don't think those thugs take time to be ornate with thier tags... they just have practice with thier calligraphy and that's what makes gang tags look nice. I can't see a gang/thug spending hours in one spot with more than one color paint. No way- they run the risk of getting shot or stabbed by thier rivals fo sho.

apparently you haven't understood it yet. It's only vandalism if you tag on private property (houses, windows w/ etch, tagging itself, etc.) If graffiti was legalized, people wouldn't have to tag, it would just be beautiful masterpieces every where and the only place there would be taggings, is on the side of a piece as a signature. Our country would also save tons of money, because the USA spends millions of dollars to remove it, which could be used for much better stuff then removing graffiti
