Would have liked to see BP be more proactively be ready for oil spills. This equipment should be stationed world wide. The UN should require mininum worldwide readiness standards for oil spill accidents including catastrophic response to events like this.

What about pumping THERMATE or THERMITE down your well and lighting it? Doesn't THERMATE or THERMITE burn under water and burns hot enough that it will melt both rock and metal together. THERMATE or THERMITE used as an INCENDIARY could seal the well and is not as risky as using an EXPLOSIVE that could make things much worse.

@anotherelvis Kevin Costner bought the company Ocean Therapy Solutions, so he is the owner of the company that is providing the oil separation machinery that BP chose...so in short he isn't being paid to speak or do PR. That's his own company...

@radstorm You realize the water in the gulf is sea water, right? You will have to run it through a massive de-salinization plant as well before you drink it, or you'll kill yourself. =)
@klea911 You should do the math on how much hemp you would need to grow in order to replace every current usage of fossil fuels. You would have to replace most of the land that now grows food with hemp crops. So while the plan sounds great in theory, it's probably not workable, at least in the short term. However I agree growing hemp as a cash crop to offset environmental impact of the lumber and oil industries makes a lot of sense.

could the perforations of the well be plugged off by drilling into them and pumping frac balls or similar objects? either way, i think it should be plugged at the perfs instead of on the surface due to extreme pressures building up and possibly blowing out cement and/or jeopardized casing strings. fluid flow from the well bore itself is out of control, so lets look at where the fluid is entering from. thanks,

it took until June 24th to implement this existing technology why? Just asking...since we all want answers, especially the gulf state residents want answers, how about BP answer why this hasn't been in place since the first week? first month, etc.???
Kevin Costnet is more invested in this than BP is. I was reading The National Geographic 1988 issue on The Exxon Valdez spill and they sprayed fertilizer to enhance the naturally occuring oil eating bacteria. After 3 days they lifted rocks on treated area and the little microbes had cleaned it up! Maybe they can put them in the marshes. Nature finds a way to recuperate but we have to stop adding to the problem. Get that thing plugged up! PLEASE
