  • BILL RUSSELL = GOAT

  • i usually put my hand on my defender's jersey or body when he's behind me so i know his position. Still It's very hard to keep in track of the position of the ball and the defender 100% all the time.

  • playing like this feels so awkward.. i feel like i don't have enough sight on the person i'm guarding.

  • @sflikuhsflikuh And that's why you're not in the nba.

  • @FireStormBaller And you play for which team again?

  • @sflikuhsflikuh Neither.

  • 13 people lost their man or their ball

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • Thank God for Jordan

  • The greatest defensive player was Bill Russell, but MJ was good too.

  • we call that "your head's on a shrivel" LOL

  • Michael Jordan and Gary Payton share the record for most NBA All-Defensive first team selections with nine.

Care to check your facts before you spout them? Takes about 10 seconds to google.

  • So Michael Jordan was on the 1st team all defense and Defensive player of the years once and he thinks hes qualified to teach this... lol

  • how old it mj in this vid?

  • @KNAC10 late 30's or even early 40's

  • scotn999 you are an idiot

  • Jordan is not the most articulate man

  • @Shadofx

not in formal videos or interviews, but i've heard him talking 'off the cuff' and his iq comes out. He's not good in front of cameras for some reason

  • i would watch michael jordan shop potted plants for his living room. I'd watch anything with him in it.

  • but i'm wearing glasses :(

  • Is it illegal or is it ok to keep a hand on your man so you know if he starts to run?

  • @RedmanATI you cant grab him, but you can feel softly with your hands to keep track of your man, but eyes on the ball.

  • Mahilg ang mga pana nyan sa iling iling ng ulo..hehe

  • @sweetsheca pino kaba

  • I was so freaking amazed when i tried this the first time a few years ago and it actually worked so well. I felt so stupid not having realised this before lol.

  • i love how he laughs!

  • What if i'm crosseyed?

  • thnakx

  • yea ryt

  • ahh... ganun pla un..

    now i know!!!

  • this is really good defense i use it sometimes when I play basketball

  • they don't do this anymore in nba... pretty sad...

  • Good tip by MJ. But using your hand and sensing where your defender helps as well, if you can't see both ur man and the ball at the same time in ur peripheral vision.

  • and ai crossing him up has to do what with off ball d?and ai is trash now lol.he got old and lost his speed

  • A.I. crossed up a 34 year old MJ that had lost a considerable amount of quickness from his prime years..

MJ circa 1986-92 would've NEVER got crossed like that. But even with that being said, A.I. tried that same crossover on him a 2nd time in that game, and got it poked away from from him by MJ on his drive..

  • he promised it! O.O

  • i wonder what the person did to make him laugh lol

  • hes a beast

  • swivel your head back and forth faster and harder. this is a great defensive tactic. if you swivel your head enough and do it fast, you will eventually throw-up all over your man. when you do this, you have a good chance for stealing the ball while he is grossing out. try it, it works. i do this all the time.

p.s. it helps if you eat curry before the game

  • good advice

  • not the best idea u would have to puke a lot in one game witch if ur a good athlete u shoudn't puke in any game...

  • @scottn999 hahahahaha

  • @scottn999

    wow u racist fag!!

  • @scottn999 humour haha....

  • @scottn999 LOL!!!

  • @scottn999 hilarious hahaha that was good

  • @scottn999 haha thats if someone doesnt call an exorcist before u throw up

  • @scottn999 what does swivel means?

  • what about if your guarding someone that moves a lot without the ball, do you still try and look at both or do you just focus on your man?

  • @genesis904 i fink the defence jordon is explaining is more suited for zone

  • @FREEDOM23100

i was playing today for awhile and i really tried to focus on this technique when my guy didnt have the ball.

It works pretty well because even though you don't always know where your man is going, you still see the ball and can make the play as you see the pass coming whether its you deflecting or you just reacting to the pass and getting back to your man to stop him

  • @genesis904 it depends on the defensive play , is it man to man or what?

  • @genesis904 no, you still look at both cuz if you look away then he might get the ball... and its not going to look good in the coaches eyes. oh and also this is for man and zone, so dont listen to freedom23100 lol jk

  • i thought everybody already knew this. ive been doing this ever since i started playing.

  • this is actually a good advice and lots of NBA players been doing that and it works to steal the ball. if you turn your head too much you'll lose your man.

  • "Additional generic Michael Jordan compliment."

  • this is common sense i figured this out when i was ten and it also works on offense when you are looking for an open man

  • Great tip. Just the other day I saw Ron Artest doing the swivel head thing.

  • amazing

u get paid for these vids?

  • God Of Basketball...

Learning from the best of the best, amazing...

  • all u do is look at ur target and wit ur "vision" the ball

  • Wow, thanks MJ, that's why your defense was absolutely amazing and fast!

  • he.. is.. amazing..

    genius

  • hes 46 yrs old

  • How old is MJ?

  • mj = basketball genius .. take notes kobe haha

  • this isnt 4 kobe since he doesnt need it...its 4 people like me and u. haha

  • @889bball

Kobe has to be one of the most overrated defenders of all time. I see him many times giving up on fast breaks, not guarding his man, letting up on blocks etc...Micheal was a legit top 5 all time man on man defender. Kobe's not in MJ's league!

  • @Kingjd87: I have noticed that sometimes too. But u can cry about that all u want as Kobe keeps getting All-Defensive team honors every year.

  • @889bball

Exactly...OVERRATED! Shane Batteir shits on Kobe defensively. Sebolosha from the Thunder is a better defender than Kobe. It's a shame b/c he's taking the spots of people that really deserve the 1st team all NBA.

  • @Kingjd87 first of all, shane battier is one of the current elite defensive minded player in NBA and it goes on ron artest, bruce bowen, and battier.. only carmelo, michael jordan, and brandon roy can only shit on their defense

  • I will admit kobe does give up on fast breaks sometimes. But he is still a good defender, he's not as great as he use to be; but he can still play good one on one d when he puts his mind to it. Kobe is now more of a help defender. He roam around on defense more, and has many assignments; including making sure all of his teammates are in the right position. So Kobe is not great anymore but still a good defender, especially help....KOBE ALL DAY....LAKERS- 2010 Champs

  • @lwj24 are you kidding me? arenas drop 60 on his ass, is that what you call great defender?

  • Comment removed

  • @aperfectcircle2121 So, Kobe has scored 40, 50, 60 against good defenders, so has AI, and so has T-Mac......It happens to the best of them sometimes

  • @lwj24 ah ok...just making my point that kobe is not a GREAT defender and never were

  • @889bball Of course it isnt for Kobe are u a retarded ? its called teaching and teaching is not for proffessional player it is for dumb player like u and me jeeez ><

  • @Zegamer666 : Dont be a dumbass. I know that...i was replyin to some idiot like u who said "Kobe Bryant shud learn from this". So ur pretty much saying the same thing but makin a big deal about it

  • @889bball even Kobe could learn a thing or two from Jordan.

  • what does he do right now? he's retired right?

  • occasionally plays golf but yer for the most part retired. i'm sure he does like school visits or gest basketball camps something like that tho.

  • sadly yes

  • he is part owner of the bobcats yeah they suck but I thought i would let you know

  • he co own the charlotte bobcats

  • part ownership of the bobcats, watches his motorcycle racing team he owns which is in birmingham, golf, idk what else....

  • he owns the brand Jordan and makes money out of it

  • haha good job noticing, man. if not i wouldnt have LOL-ed..

  • a.k.a. BALL-YOU-MAN defense

  • i've been told if you look at someone's waist you can see which way he is going to move because of the hip movement

  • yea but if yer looking at his waist then he could pass or catch around you. thts the way the football coach told us to look when in an open field tackle situation

  • And the ball and ur player

  • im gonna use that advice in my game tomorow.

  • 4 everybody that thinks kobe is a ball hoger watch some basketball 4 once, that was maybe 4yrs ago but if u c him now he gets his team involved all the time, at least in the 1st half and if they r down hell take over

  • LOL

  • god damn! he is a GOD!

  • Michael jordann!!!!!!!!

  • my coach taught me to stare dead in the middle of my opponents chest to follow his body, not the ball.

  • this tutorial is about covering your man without the ball....

  • he's talkin bout help defense when your 2 passes away between the ball and your man.

  • LOL

    Jordan poped a boner

  • *favorite*

  • dont be silly man...jus because it happened once doesnt mean u shud doubt MJ's defensive skills, besides that was iverson....who happens to be one of the best offensive players of all time. MJ has achieved far more than iverson has man

  • iverson was known for ball huger, just like kobe

  • dood your right in never thought of that i got it i got it kobe puts it up BRICK! ! ! ! lol

  • Who's known as the best player in the NBA? I got it I got it... KOBE BRYANT!

  • as of today? yes! but in general and historically? not quite...but probably 10 years from now he'll be on the list though; Hall of Fame

  • haha right now cause Mj is retired but Kobe is not going to reach MJ achievements.

  • this would be extremley helpful if i could see 100% in both eyes, my right is about 90% and my left is fucking 20%. I gotta wear glasses on the court like kareem or i'd get cracked in the head with the ball all the time. Oh well, at least i can still see a smug of my player

  • oh i cans ee perfly wihtout glasse son court but it take slike 3 horus to get used to. get gogles or contacts bro helps alot

  • he's right, this would help alot intercepting balls.

  • I wish youtube was around while I was in highschool lol

  • ummm....Proness thank you for your words. TEH BEST! Always.

  • You, before watching it.

  • He doesn't mention it, but while you are looking stright ahead--or as my coaches always taught--ball to man--you can always keep you're hand on your defender, or grip a lil bit of his jersey or shorts. That way if he moves you can feel it and follow. But learning to play good defense is by far the hardest part of the game, well said by Michael

  • Thanks MJ.

  • pistol stand

  • Wonder If your blind in ya left eye, i use ma hearing lol

  • lol, I got taught wrong.. my coach said to stand in your postion no matter if the ball goes somewhere else, and well it never worked out, thanks MJ!

  • this's useful i had taughted by my coach as well

  • o.O this better work

I usaully jus stand in front of the person im defending leaving them blind and closed to any passes

  • i usually justwait for the right time and elbow the guy im defending and pretend it was a accident

    or a headbutt

sometimes i just kick em square in the nuts or put em in a choke hold or a figure 4 leg lock

  • lol nice help defense

  • THANK YOU TEACHER.

  • micheal jrodan, what a great teacher:)

  • michael jordan is the best player in the world i wanna be like mike

  • everybody wants to be like mike...=P
