@GoHabs13 Same here, man. I can't imagine someone touching my equipment on stage at all. My drummer has done that when he plays my guitar and I can say I have gotten back at him with his drums :D
Ok. What is the original name for his G&L guitar "Blue dress" I want to find one like that but with no paint/decals on it but I dont want his sig model. HELP ME PLEASE!
@TheRealSonicYouth it's still a rampage, just not a sig version. They only made a couple hundred from what I understand and only for a few years back in the late 80's so it will be hard to find
It's always better when the artist goes through their rig, rather than the tech saying "I don't know why we have this, but it works for him so yeah..."
FUCK YEAH!!! JC is an AWESOME guy... AND he has a Tele Deluxe in his rack... far and away the coolest guitar he's got there...BUT I am QUITE boased when it comes to TD's... that's what I play exclusively now and I think they're the best guitar I've ever had my hands on. Course I've never gotten my hands on a Languadoc so... I like how down to earth and cool JC is in this interview. Makes him seem like a REAL person, not some fake persona like so many guys of the "new rock' crowd... pure legend
Its so cool to see a rock legend like Jerry take time to do an interview like this. Don't think he could have been a cooler dude. Way to keep it real.
In my opinion Jerry is the David Gilmor of his generation.Very simular songwriting, tone and note choice/placement.Plus the new album reminds me of Pink Floyd both musically and sonically.
I'm so impressed. I've always liked Alice In Chains and always dug Jerry as a player. To see him be so cool with Jordan and actually come out and talk to PG instead of sending his Tech shows how cool and down to earth he is. Bravo Jerry.
I thought that looked like the Ballroom! I was at that show! Unfortunately none of my friends wanted to go so I went by myself, but was still a motherfucking kickass show.
Cool to see him playing an SG. Looks like an old heritage cherry colored Standard with the small pick guard but with a Les Paul custom neck. Nice axe.
Many guitarist don't normally go for the single p/u setup. But when I really think about it, how often do you use the neck p/u? I flip it on occasionally when I remember to but it's only because it's there. Unless you play something dramatically different from song to song, it usually stays on the bridge. If you need a completly different sound, grab another guitar that's setup for that piece.
I checked out the tribute model the other day. It's really good. G & L is often hit or miss but they really captured the simplicity and effectiveness that Cantrell was going for.
I need help determining a new set of pickups for my Jackson.. I like to play metal and i like that high gain sound but i also really like the steve vai sort of sound too. Can someone suggest pickups for me please?
@sfh113 alnico pro2 neck position is a fucking badass pickup for melodic and warm suff.. cleans and leads sound incredible and you can totally tell the difference from other pickups (i had dimarzio tone zones before... then a 59 and then the alnico.. it's really amazing dude check it out)... and on the bridge i have a duncan custom... it's a high output pickup but not like over the top, but still can put some decent amount of punch in low gain amps and stuff... cool stuff
@MattHXIV i think he's a better riff player sure, but he cant beat the time signatures of soundgarden, and i think he's not better than mike mccready but different, it's a total different style of solos between the two, but hey, it's your opinion mate ;D.
those rhythm tones on Dirt are some of the very best ever recorded.... dude has an ear for a sick tone, and the studio skill to get it committed to tape...
I totally agree! 'Dirt' is an awesome album in so many ways; great riffs/songs, huge, warm, meaty, dark tones! The way he recorded the parts is way cool... what I mean is - how he recorded one track one way, say using "power chords" and then layer another track using full chords or opens so the part can ring out. That's another thing about JC's tone: you can hear each note, it's very distinctive, and not overly distorted. Plus the word you used helps big time: "TAPE!"
Alice has impacted my life a lot, been my favorite band for many years. Jerry's been the biggest influence for me wanting to play guitar for many years. I'm finally going to pick up a guitar. Definitely going to be the sound I'll try to get some kind of a similar sound. Jerry's not given the credit he deserves.
I hear that... Jerry has been an idol to me as a guitar player/musician, and as another guy growing up in the PNW up here. Always wanted to make it big like Alice in Chains and get the fuck outta here.
He thinks he's getting an original sound from that Les Paul? he's sounds like every other guy playing one - thick & mushy. Nothing original about that sound though.
your crazy.... im pretty sure hes known for having a very unique sound. when their new single came out i realized it was them only by the guitar track. you should listen up to guitarists more and mabey youll be able to realize a difference in sound
Yeah, esp the first couple of albums (the EP's were good too)! "We Die Young" has a great/huge tone (damn good riff too)! And of course the "Dirt" album! haha
Didn't care too much for his tone on the 3-legged dog album (self-titled) tho.
@ericwylde WRONG. Majority of the 'Dog' album was recorded with the 5150 Eddie Van Halen gave him. Jerry was quoted saying the 5150 sounded dirtier than the Mesa's he was using at the time.
@PointlessPriest im sorry for you but a 5150 does sound much dirtier than nearly each mesa. and the only boogies which are allowed to be considered as porn are the mark series
