  • love the melvins shirt!

  • HE IS ALSO RUNNING A VOODOO LABS PEDAL POWER THERE TOO

  • nice melvins shirt

  • 2:29 Ouch.

  • why does he have two mxr smart gates in his rack???

  • Does anyone else think that Muhammed Suicmez looks like Mr. Cantrell?

  • A week ago, finally I got to see this great musician live and it was simply awesome, one of the best performers that I've seen.

  • doesnt tremonti use uberschall as well

  • @leonoff89 he blends mesa dual rectifiers with uberschalls except his uberschalls are modded for 6L6 tubes

  • must be weird to have somebody changing your sound while your playing. If my drummer touches my amp I smack him.

  • @GoHabs13 Same here, man. I can't imagine someone touching my equipment on stage at all. My drummer has done that when he plays my guitar and I can say I have gotten back at him with his drums :D

  • Used to be dean markley cryosteel custom lights but now is dunlop 10-46's

  • 10-46

  • what string gauge does Jerry uses?

  • I could listen to him talk all day. His voice soothes me.

  • I was at that show!!! I got a tattoo of layne on my bak, wish he coulda saw it!

  • It's amazing how one of my guitar idols rigs almost exactly mirrors my own personal rig.Completely by coincidence.

  • does any one know where i can get those patch cabels that he's got? been looking every where for them but i can't find em so someone please help!

  • @swanky23 *cough* metallica * cough*

  • Ok. What is the original name for his G&L guitar "Blue dress" I want to find one like that but with no paint/decals on it but I dont want his sig model. HELP ME PLEASE!

  • @TheRealSonicYouth it's still a rampage, just not a sig version. They only made a couple hundred from what I understand and only for a few years back in the late 80's so it will be hard to find

  • Totally cool. Jerry seems like a really smart grounded individual.

  • It's always better when the artist goes through their rig, rather than the tech saying "I don't know why we have this, but it works for him so yeah..."

  • melvins shirt. fuck yeah.

  • FUCK YEAH!!! JC is an AWESOME guy... AND he has a Tele Deluxe in his rack... far and away the coolest guitar he's got there...BUT I am QUITE boased when it comes to TD's... that's what I play exclusively now and I think they're the best guitar I've ever had my hands on. Course I've never gotten my hands on a Languadoc so... I like how down to earth and cool JC is in this interview. Makes him seem like a REAL person, not some fake persona like so many guys of the "new rock' crowd... pure legend

  • you should do a rigrundown with ahrue luster of ill nino & scott ian of anthrax man

    they rock(h)

  • Its so cool to see a rock legend like Jerry take time to do an interview like this. Don't think he could have been a cooler dude. Way to keep it real.

  • In my opinion Jerry is the David Gilmor of his generation.Very simular songwriting, tone and note choice/placement.Plus the new album reminds me of Pink Floyd both musically and sonically.

  • I'm so impressed. I've always liked Alice In Chains and always dug Jerry as a player. To see him be so cool with Jordan and actually come out and talk to PG instead of sending his Tech shows how cool and down to earth he is. Bravo Jerry.

  • I thought that looked like the Ballroom! I was at that show! Unfortunately none of my friends wanted to go so I went by myself, but was still a motherfucking kickass show.

  • hey i have the same boss chrous as him. sweeeet

  • Cool to see him playing an SG. Looks like an old heritage cherry colored Standard with the small pick guard but with a Les Paul custom neck. Nice axe.

  • wht pickups does he use?

  • @34bighitter well hes signature models have custom wound... alnico 5? i think.

  • So I was fast forwarding to remember what octave pedal he used and at about 95% of the starts I hear him go "....and uhhh" LOL

  • Jordan Wagner looks like my uncle...

  • omg!!! the G&L Rampage. gettin mine next week. can't wait

  • Nice setlist though it needs Grind and I Stay Away!

  • i like his collection of guitars

  • awesome, now i just need a few thousand dollars...

  • Many guitarist don't normally go for the single p/u setup. But when I really think about it, how often do you use the neck p/u? I flip it on occasionally when I remember to but it's only because it's there. Unless you play something dramatically different from song to song, it usually stays on the bridge. If you need a completly different sound, grab another guitar that's setup for that piece.

  • @smacman68 Well, actually, I use the neck pickup all the time, for my ebow, solos, etc.

  • I checked out the tribute model the other day. It's really good. G & L is often hit or miss but they really captured the simplicity and effectiveness that Cantrell was going for.

  • I need help determining a new set of pickups for my Jackson.. I like to play metal and i like that high gain sound but i also really like the steve vai sort of sound too. Can someone suggest pickups for me please?

  • @sfh113 alnico pro2 neck position is a fucking badass pickup for melodic and warm suff.. cleans and leads sound incredible and you can totally tell the difference from other pickups (i had dimarzio tone zones before... then a 59 and then the alnico.. it's really amazing dude check it out)... and on the bridge i have a duncan custom... it's a high output pickup but not like over the top, but still can put some decent amount of punch in low gain amps and stuff... cool stuff

  • mark tremonti uses bogner amps

  • Cantrell rules!!! Badass Player, Nice Guy, Great Musician...

  • JERRY CANTRELL FOR PRESIDENT. I mean if he becomes president than we´ll listen to only good music. So who´s with me???

    P.S.: R.I.P. Layne. You´ll never be forgotten :(

  • @fuckinlayne I'll give you a +1 on that! Even though it is a year late.

  • much as i like pearl jam nirvana and soundgarden, jerry always makes their guitar parts look suckass

  • @MattHXIV I hope you are kidding. They are so different in style it is to hard to compare. Plus Rust Cage Jesus Christ Pose are two sick ass riffs.

Plus Alive has a sick solo.

  • @MattHXIV uh no dude

  • @omegalen better riff player than kim thayill, better solos than pearl jam and just as much emotion as nirvana

  • @MattHXIV i think he's a better riff player sure, but he cant beat the time signatures of soundgarden, and i think he's not better than mike mccready but different, it's a total different style of solos between the two, but hey, it's your opinion mate ;D.

    all terrific bands though.

  • @omegalen ok sure fair enough

  • @omegalen ummm yea dude

  • Awesome. Thanks for posting this. This has a lot of great info for stage musicians.

  • shiva! love it.

  • @JamesMarini01 Yeah I bought one just as they came out. Its awesome :D

  • Genius!!!!!!!

  • Great!!!

  • Jerry's the man. Not only he's kept his first guitar, he even tours with it.

  • Sooo happy to have one of his guitar picks! And I got one of Sean's drumsticks :D

  • I admire the fact that Jerry does whatever the song needs.

  • cool guy

  • he has a tour supply something anyone knows what it is

  • i think it switches between the different guitars or wireless units in his rack, i am not quite sure though if he uses a wireless system though

  • omfg i a saw aic a week ago and it was fuckin awesome!!

  • me 2

  • fuck ya dude the oakland show!

  • no my bad i didnt see u wrote the comment 3 weeks ago i went to the one in new york last week from now

  • yeah she likes rock/metal which is why it makes absolutely zero sense. It was definitely a dealbreaker.

  • I have a friend who doesn't... don't ask me why. She doesn't like Iron Maiden either. wtf?

  • Does anyone know the brand and model of strap that's on the G&L Whiskey colored Rampage he pulls out at around 3:46 of the video?

  • @adam79adam79 Must be a Dunlop. I guess it's the Super Charger model. Maybe with an extra ring, but essentially it's the same design.

  • haha fuck man i was in first row that night at the rave...such a killer show.

  • Anyone know when his signature wah is gonna be released?

  • Comment removed

  • @8bigtubes the wah will be on Display at Namm 2010 at the Dunlop stand. Should be available about a month month or two after it :)

  • its alrdy released.

  • i thought he used to use VHT's as well....

those rhythm tones on Dirt are some of the very best ever recorded.... dude has an ear for a sick tone, and the studio skill to get it committed to tape...

    long live alice in chains...

  • I totally agree! 'Dirt' is an awesome album in so many ways; great riffs/songs, huge, warm, meaty, dark tones! The way he recorded the parts is way cool... what I mean is - how he recorded one track one way, say using "power chords" and then layer another track using full chords or opens so the part can ring out. That's another thing about JC's tone: you can hear each note, it's very distinctive, and not overly distorted. Plus the word you used helps big time: "TAPE!"

  • Are those Red Monkey straps mostly? They look awesome.

  • that shit rules. his rig seems relatively simple. i think cantrell has said its 70% ability 30% gear which i think is dead on.

  • Def one of my hereo's.

  • Comment removed

  • Alice has impacted my life a lot, been my favorite band for many years. Jerry's been the biggest influence for me wanting to play guitar for many years. I'm finally going to pick up a guitar. Definitely going to be the sound I'll try to get some kind of a similar sound. Jerry's not given the credit he deserves.

  • @alicemudgarden89

I hear that... Jerry has been an idol to me as a guitar player/musician, and as another guy growing up in the PNW up here. Always wanted to make it big like Alice in Chains and get the fuck outta here.

JC = tone fuckin wizard. seriously.

  • Jerry is looking kinda old, he'll look like a wizard when he has white hair.

  • its not white he just died it light blonde lol.. yeah hes looking rougher but hes only 43 :P thats not too old :P

  • younger than James Hetfield who is looking really old now he lets his hair go gray

  • your crazy.... im pretty sure hes known for having a very unique sound. when their new single came out i realized it was them only by the guitar track. you should listen up to guitarists more and mabey youll be able to realize a difference in sound

  • His guitars are like a gold mine for me :) I passed all my teenager staring for them [and for Jerry of course:) ]

  • i always thought jerry Cantrell was an awesome guitar player, he's way underated tho :(

  • I have been in that room.... about 5 feet from where they are standing. I saw Dope, Sevendust, and Black Label Society

  • back in the 90s and before layne died, people forgot about them after 1995 or so; people are so fickle. glad to see them getting their dues again.

  • My favorite guitarist!

  • I'll buy the rampage for $300..thats a nice geetar

  • Cool to see he has a similar sticker decal replica of his first Rampage. Seen next to the '85 Rampage.

  • damn lol i wana get most of that now

  • about a month ago he was using the bogner Ubershall and the Alchemist mixed. Just saw these guys live. sounded great!

  • Great job on getting Jerry Cantrell! Alice in Chains reminds me of the best times of rock and roll.

  • iso cabs! that's cheating! lol

    FFFFUUUUUUUUU

  • yeah!!! , alice makes me so happy, great to see Jer again

  • and?

  • love alice in chains

  • I like these rig rundowns because they let you know all and exactly everything that the artists use.

  • very interesting to see his gear.

  • good to see a new rig rundown vid.

  • Cool to see this, he got a good tone back in the day

  • Yeah, esp the first couple of albums (the EP's were good too)! "We Die Young" has a great/huge tone (damn good riff too)! And of course the "Dirt" album! haha

Didn't care too much for his tone on the 3-legged dog album (self-titled) tho.

  • the dog album had a different tone for each song

  • @ericwylde WRONG. Majority of the 'Dog' album was recorded with the 5150 Eddie Van Halen gave him. Jerry was quoted saying the 5150 sounded dirtier than the Mesa's he was using at the time.

  • 5150 sounding dirtier than a Mesa? :/

  • @PointlessPriest im sorry for you but a 5150 does sound much dirtier than nearly each mesa. and the only boogies which are allowed to be considered as porn are the mark series

  • @c4tze Agreed. Mesa's aren't dirty so much as high gain.
