Opossums are the only marsupials in the American continent. I suppose this is in Quebec. I live in Mexico and we have tons of them, we call them tlacuaches and they live everywhere. They are harmless. They carry their babies on their backs and I think they have a bag in their belly (the females) like other marsupials of the world.

It is an Opossum. They are well know for playing died , but I have never seen one do it . To the contrary I have found them to be quite aggressive. They hiss & open their mouths bigger then you would think they can . They show no fear even going nose to nose with my large dog. The dog was barking up a storm at the end of his chain. The Opossum back arched like a cat was hissing at him with it's mouth gaped open like a crocodile. It would not back down.

Possums are famous for faking being dead.....But they are very dumb. A possum repeatedly got in the cat trap we had outside, again and again. He'd go in to have a snack and the trap would close. Then I'd come to rescue him and open both sides of the cage and he'd still be there 20 mins later. The cats who'd been caught and knew to ignore the trap would come around and cat laugh at him. But he had a good meal anyway.
