I have GM era 2006 and its been a lemon .had problems with AC .I was driving one day and parts of the plastic on the ceiling just fell off, you have strong fingers just to change your radio station on wheel .over all I will not get another unless its pure Saab . Oh and my keys .....good lord those keys ..how dare I use them ....they fell apart ,even the spare .not happy at all.
All you guys can bitch about the GM era all you want. I have an 03 SAAB 9-3 and it is an awesome car. It is wondeful in the snow, it gets great mileage, it is very reliable so far (88,000 miles). Sometimes I think people just want to find something to complain about. The fact is, GM was involved with the management, but SAAB still built the cars in Trollhatten.
The 95 was made until 78? Was the 95 still being sold in the US at that time? I thought the Sonett III was one of the coolest looking cars ever built, and I've always lusted after the bubble hatchbacked 99.

@LaugermanPROductions - Answer: year 1996. I am very proud with my Saab 900. The car has 14 years, but it doesn't have any mechanical problems. It is safe, good breaks, good stability in traffic at high speeds. Very comfortable with premium materials, full electric package and much more(don't forget, the car was made in 1996)....It is the pleasure to drive a Saab, nothing compare with that.

I have a black '92, 9000s.. The day I bought it, the windows were down and a dragonfly was sitting on the dash. It went along for the test drive for awhile. Every time I drive it, I think of that... I named it "The Black Dragonfly" because its fast, nimble and unique....
I have a '92 (one of the latest models) 3-door hatchback which is getting older as we speak, rust and all.

In the family is also: 2x9000, 1x900 4-door, 1x900 5-door, 2x900 cabriolet (all 900s classic of course!), and a 9-3. My mother met a moose head-on at 90 kph without breaking a single mirror, and we've been saab enthusiasts since!
I so dearly want a III, but I lack the money and care such a car needs. By the time I have sufficient funds and warm garage ++, the Sonetts will probably all be gone.

I read thats what some of them are actually doing, this Swedish guy gave posted a link on Saab website to a page about an underground movement of Swedish investors & regular citizens who are putting they're money together in an effort to save Saab (I would've chipped in myself...only I can't read Swedish), & I just read a statement just released by GM saying they're extending Spyker's bid till the 7th of January, rather then the 31st of December...so there may be hope yet.
@YS3Caero There is no Saab techonology, Saab uses GM engines in most of their cars, and GM platoforms. All saab does is the style, and they dont do it well. Saab is in no single way superior to any other car of its price..

I think that the latest lines are very balanced between past models and "what they should be". I bought a 9.3 in January and the things that were lost are about eficiency of the controls of the radio or the ar condicioned, for exple.. @Apoth3cary ecotech is based off of a SAAB engine...The block is GM but the engine cyliner head was modified by SAAB and is a SAAB design and GM adopted the technology for use in the HHR and cobalt/SS. I know you dont think SAAB barrowed the real tech from GM?....right? Honestly, It is mostly a cheap SAAB engine with GM under pinnings.

@ThomasPhp I dont even consider Saab a luxury car in any respect. The interiors are cheap feeling, the cars are FRONT WHEEL DRIVE? And even the AWD ones, are on a FWD platform, so, the car is not very weight balanced. A Cadillac CTS would beat a Saab 9-3's ass, easy. Saabs are a Walmart brand of cars to me (at least in the luxury car market) They have all the same stuff, but it doesnt add up to be a good car.

GM wants a lot of money of course. They let things cook a bit and see what happens. They sell it at a high price or kill it. Because GM is in a very big economic crisis which we have hear and known about for a very long time. Which is GM's own fault for trying higher and higher sales and production. In a point where anything doesn't have any relevance at all. e.g. The hummer and it's consumption of fuel.
got sad near the end...got to my 9-5 :).....but I got more respect for the Turbo X seeing it in unveiling prototype stage. and now there on the streets, but looks like we might not see the new 9-5 on the roads...
Sad to see SAAB go. A true tragedy. I've owned two, a 99 EMS and a 900 Turbo and both were excellent cars. My 900 Turbo is still being driven buy my stepson. Fast, comfortable and built like a bank vault. I have never met anybody who owned one who didn't love the car.

Thank you for your positive comments about European cars. Sadly we don't always sell our car companies to America willingly. When a leviathan like Greed Machine (GM) decides it wants SAAB there's not a great deal SAAB can do about it. SImilarly when the Greed Machine has sucked every ounce of life out of it and decides to trash it to stop anyone else getting their hands on it, there's very little SAAB can do about that too... Nice one GM. Very clever.

I started with a 1984 99GL, that was a great car... I then bought a 1990 900T16S. Frightening car that one... now ive got a 2001 9-3 aero coupe in cosmic blue with 250hp and yes, its the dogs bollocks. not keen on the newer cars so think will make this one last the forseeable future. My dad used to have a 'freewheel' 95 when i was a kid and it had a hole in the rear footwell where you could see the road but that didnt stop me from wanting one when i got older. :)
The real SAAB idealism is dead! Since 1990 GM has been behind the wheel and made SAABs with opel parts, making it crap! Since that time there has not been any development, the SAAB engine with variable combustion was never launched. SAABs cars and engines are totally outdated, what a pity..... :-(
Well, I have a '94 9000 CSE and a '93 3-door 900, and I'd say not even the 9000 is a "real" Saab. Sure it's a great car, but in my opinion the 900 classic is the last real saab. The 900 was created by engineers, everything after that was designed by economists...

then i drove it back after working up in a fish cannery for 2 mounths, not a single problum. all that happend was a rock sratched my rim.. i was pissed lol :P

Since GM took over, saabs have become more reliable, in fact they where rubbish when produced by the sweedes, foir ever breaking down, if they have been bought by a swedish company, then all GMs hard work will be undone, the reason the company was sold in the first place, was due to the poor quality production, of the cars under swedish ownership, the sales where awful:)

Isn't it amazing how special the old cars are? The 92, 95, original 900, and Sonettes. But the new ones are more and more ordinary, on a distance I can't tell them from VW, Opel or whatever.
One car is missing, BTW, the 98. Only three were made. Beautiful car.
I would say the only thing they´ve got in common is the body, other than that some pieces made by GM. But interiors and general quality come on man is like if you were comparing a Volvo and a Ford, or a Chevrolet with a Lincoln.

My dad bought a brand new '77 99gle back in the day. I remember him bringing home the brochures and we all picked it out.
Later on he had the motor stroked out, the head ported, added a turbo with water injection, Pirelli tires and Recaro seats.
Haha that thing was fast as hell with 12psi boost.

I have a '92 (one of the latest models) 3-door hatchback which is getting older as we speak, rust and all.
But isn't that car just BEAUTIFUL?
In the family is also: 2x9000, 1x900 4-door, 1x900 5-door, 2x900 cabriolet (all 900s classic of course!), and a 9-3. My mother met a moose head-on at 90 kph without breaking a single mirror, and we've been saab enthusiasts since!
But BY GOD I want a Sonett.....

Not only did they commercialise and destroy everything that WAS SAAB by making it into an Opel with a different plaque; but they managed to get it shut down, too. Scumbags.
I'm only 19 but I'm already a growing enthusiast. I wish my 900 could be as beautiful and shiny black as the one in this video...

This is really sad. GM bs as usual. You can't let a legend like this go down. Owned a 1970 wagon 96. Bought from a rich girl in Florida fixed the V-4 with parts from 69 and hammered that little soldier all over US. This is damned shame. Can't happen!

I read thats what some of them are actually doing, this Swedish guy gave posted a link on Saab website to a page about an underground movement of Swedish investors & regular citizens who are putting they're money together in an effort to save Saab (I would've chipped in myself...only I can't read Swedish), & I just read a statement just released by GM saying they're extending Spyker's bid till the 7th of January, rather then the 31st of December...so there may be hope yet.

@YS3Caero There is no Saab techonology, Saab uses GM engines in most of their cars, and GM platoforms. All saab does is the style, and they dont do it well. Saab is in no single way superior to any other car of its price..

I think that the latest lines are very balanced between past models and "what they should be". I bought a 9.3 in January and the things that were lost are about eficiency of the controls of the radio or the ar condicioned, for exple.. GM´s fault! the price... 9.3 1.9TiD Vector = BMW 118D/ VW golf 2.0TDI. In my country...

@Apoth3cary ecotech is based off of a SAAB engine...The block is GM but the engine cyliner head was modified by SAAB and is a SAAB design and GM adopted the technology for use in the HHR and cobalt/SS. I know you dont think SAAB barrowed the real tech from GM?....right? Honestly, It is mostly a cheap SAAB engine with GM under pinnings.

With the 10k I spend on my Scion tC I could of easily gotten a same year Saab 9-3, easy, but I chose the car with better interior and mechanical quality, and looks. And for your info, I am in fuckin college, no shit I cant get a goddamn BMW, but I would take an Infiniti over it anyway

Japanese cars i think the only choice is Lexus or Infinity/Nissan...Toyota, Honda have a lot of problems, looks ugly and Subaru - Mitsubishi are ugly cars in present...maybe a Evo8 or 9 is very nice. the european cars are very good and the quality is high...but are too many cars here...and i'm bored...i want a exclusiv car like Saab or something american... @Apoth3cary i'm not fan Lexus/Toyota i gived a exemple...but Lexus is more high than Toyota and Cadillac than Chevrolet because they have common cars Chevy/Caddy. But a Chevy is more shit than a Caddy.. I know is a engine GM at Cadillac, but do you think that a premium car made a piece of shit? no..and this case are many cars. Nissan is in alliance with Renault-Dacia and made good cars. I prefer a Ford than a cadillac because looks better than any american car....but from sin's, Saab is my love.

@ThomasPhp I dont even consider Saab a luxury car in any respect. The interiors are cheap feeling, the cars are FRONT WHEEL DRIVE? And even the AWD ones, are on a FWD platform, so, the car is not very weight balanced. A Cadillac CTS would beat a Saab 9-3's ass, easy. Saabs are a Walmart brand of cars to me (at least in the luxury car market) They have all the same stuff, but it doesnt add up to be a good car.

I talk about 9-3 facelift 2008/2010 :) others Saab i don't like, but remain good cars. The best cars are German's, but are too much german on roads and i'm very bored of them...i want something different like others...i don't like to have a same cars like others 100...

Their has been many buyers since the decline of Saab was obvious but the gouverment of Sweden has done nothing to stop this. They just didn´t had the guts to go against a company like GM just like this time. Sad but true. This has going on for many many years. Saab is gone and Volvo has gone to the Chinese. GM wants a lot of money of course. They let things cook a bit and see what happens. They sell it at a high price or kill it. Because GM is in a very big economic crisis which we have hear and known about for a very long time. Which is GM's own fault for trying higher and higher sales and production. In a point where anything doesn't have any relevance at all. e.g. The hummer and it's consumption of fuel.

Sad to see SAAB go. A true tragedy. I've owned two, a 99 EMS and a 900 Turbo and both were excellent cars. My 900 Turbo is still being driven buy my stepson. Fast, comfortable and built like a bank vault. I have never met anybody who owned one who didn't love the car.
Might be time for me to go out and start looking for a used Viggen . . .

Thank you for your positive comments about European cars. Sadly we don't always sell our car companies to America willingly. When a leviathan like Greed Machine (GM) decides it wants SAAB there's not a great deal SAAB can do about it. SImilarly when the Greed Machine has sucked every ounce of life out of it and decides to trash it to stop anyone else getting their hands on it, there's very little SAAB can do about that too... Nice one GM. Very clever.

I started with a 1984 99GL, that was a great car... I then bought a 1990 900T16S. Frightening car that one... now ive got a 2001 9-3 aero coupe in cosmic blue with 250hp and yes, its the dogs bollocks. not keen on the newer cars so think will make this one last the forseeable future. My dad used to have a 'freewheel' 95 when i was a kid and it had a hole in the rear footwell where you could see the road but that didnt stop me from wanting one when i got older. :)

The real SAAB idealism is dead! Since 1990 GM has been behind the wheel and made SAABs with opel parts, making it crap! Since that time there has not been any development, the SAAB engine with variable combustion was never launched. SAABs cars and engines are totally outdated, what a pity..... :-(

Well, I have a '94 9000 CSE and a '93 3-door 900, and I'd say not even the 9000 is a "real" Saab. Sure it's a great car, but in my opinion the 900 classic is the last real saab. The 900 was created by engineers, everything after that was designed by economists...

then i drove it back after working up in a fish cannery for 2 mounths, not a single problum. all that happend was a rock sratched my rim.. i was pissed lol :P
But yeah, a total of 7000 miles basicly non-stop. and not a problum on the alaskan highway, id compare that to any car.....

Since GM took over, saabs have become more reliable, in fact they where rubbish when produced by the sweedes, foir ever breaking down, if they have been bought by a swedish company, then all GMs hard work will be undone, the reason the company was sold in the first place, was due to the poor quality production, of the cars under swedish ownership, the sales where awful:)

Isn't it amazing how special the old cars are? The 92, 95, original 900, and Sonettes. But the new ones are more and more ordinary, on a distance I can't tell them from VW, Opel or whatever.
One car is missing, BTW, the 98. Only three were made. Beautiful car.

I would say the only thing they´ve got in common is the body, other than that some pieces made by GM. But interiors and general quality come on man is like if you were comparing a Volvo and a Ford, or a Chevrolet with a Lincoln.
