My bowling ball as a thick clear layer on top. What I mean is there is a core and the rest of the ball is transparent. Does this technic will work for it?
Soaking the ball will not crack the ball. By soaking the ball in warm water, you bleed out the oil that was deeply seeded in the coverstock. DO NOT use very hot water becuse this CAN lead to seperation of the coverstock from the core, if the temp is alright for your hand, it's alright for the ball. Fill the wholes with putty and tape over the wholes with electrical tape, this will prevent any water from seeping into the inner walls of the core. THE MOST EFFECTIVE AND SAFE WAY TO REMOVE OIL.
howoften shld a ball be resurfaced ? like say in terms of games... coz my ball isnt reacting anymore so im going to resurface it. but i got a national competition in a few months time and idk whether i shld resurface it again right before my comp. im using a storm second dimension. and btw im quite new to bowling and only 17yrs old so im not that familiar with stuff like re surfacing
@ic3frost Rule of Thumb, about every 200 to 300 games. depending on the lane surface you roll on and the oil. BUT If your ball stopped reacting its full of oil. Wash the oil out of your ball every 30 to 40 games with dish soap. Rub the soap into the ball and wash off with warm water NOT hot. Dry with an absorbent cloth then with a good ball cleaner. It should react like new again.
@choquemon Check the Innovative Bowling Products web site to check, but their Personnal ball spinner was $199 and it comes with all kinds of goodies!!
@leontt9 The higher the grit # the further down the lane your ball will travel before hooking. The lower the grit # the sooner your ball will hook. If your ball is working fine for you, keep the finish the ball came with. That is, just restore the ball to its oob grit. If you want more hook drop down on the grit #. If you want less hook go up.
You should use a ball cleaner after every bowling session BEFORE putting them in you bag. But that only takes care of the surface oil.
Since it's fast and easy to wash reactive resin bowling balls with dish soap and warm water try after every 20 or 30 games or sooner if you are on lots of oil.
I wash the oil out of my resin bowling balls every weekend. That way I never worry about the oil building up.
@mablenay Wet sanding seems to work nicer for me. Dry sanding creates a lot of dust and can clog the sanding pad a lot quicker. I wet sand and wipe with a wet towel between changing pads.
@SlatebowlAllStars ya its watever you like. I prefer scotch brite pads 320 to 1500 then use a 4000 abrlon. But i always start out with a medium steel wool pad to start the cutting. And like you stated before if you soak the ball in hot water with dial or any degreaser and then resurface you basically got a new ball. but on my ball spinner it can spin clockwise and counter. wat is the purpose of spinning both ways?
thanks for the info here, this gave me the idea to have my pro shop sand my ball to 1000. I throw quick but revs aren't high. Ball behaves exactly like I want it to again.
He said that use the polish which is the last step of the video is enough. My hotsuace is terrible there is alot of track on it. Will the track on my ball affect the reaction of my ball?
listen, i would take it down from its original grit, down to 500, then bring it back up to its original grip, and then add polish if necessary. if its like 1000 grit oiriginal, take it down to 500, then back up to 1000, to remove your track marks
You can resurface any ball, and every ball will need to be resurfaced after 200 or 300 games. By then it probably has a track in it and needs to have the surface restored.
Just make sure to wash the oil out of reactive resin balls with dish soap and warm water after 20 or so games to keep it hooking for you.
Did you know that the more you resurface a ball, the ever so smaller the ball becomes?? and what you probably didn't know is that a smaller bowling ball carries better!!!!
Love the video, very helpful. My pro shop here in town sucks! I dont know what he does to my bowling balls but when hes done I can get a house ball to hook more than mine!! And Im not the only one with this problem! Im going to start doing them myself! Wish you guys were located near me...
I couldn't afford one of those spinners. :(

Do you always have to finish with a polish or can you resurface to say 1000grit and then start bowling with it ?
TheRosalietje 2 months ago
@TheRosalietje You can bowl with 1000 grit. 1000 grit is for heavy oil unless your rev rate is low.

Where can you buy the blue paper towels you use to polish the ball. Are they tougher than a regular paper towel?
banjoec 2 years ago
you can just get a terry towel, there used to polish balls, i have one and it works just fine
Elitebowler4life 2 years ago
Or go to someplace like Home Depot and look for a product called "Box of Rags" in the paint section.
They are usually made from recycled paper and work great for all kinds of odd jobs.
SlatebowlAllStars 1 year ago
If you do this a several time what happens to the diameter of the ball?
misterferien 2 years ago
When you polish your ball all the time, wont that wear down the surface after some time? so that the paint and writing disappears?
napalm9 2 years ago
no. the pads arent simply strong enough to take circumfrance off the bowling ball. its only the surface or it, it doesnt cut ball out.

Thanks for the lesson. Now we all need to buy a spinner...
banjoec 3 years ago
If you own more than 2 balls the personal ball spinner will pay for itself by saving you trips to the pro shop.
You also get the pleasure of doing it yourself and knowing that it will be done they way you want it.
Just remember to wash the oil out of your reactive resin balls with diah soap and warm water after every 20 or so games to keep it hooking for you!

well mr. holedipshit..
if you were listening
as he was putting on the polish
he was telling us that
it would make the ball's reaction later
he was just showing us examples of
different surface changes
