I just saw this performance for the first time ever on saturday!! It was so worth an 8 hour drive! I was in the fifth row from the stage!! I wish I could've met the phantom though....but still amazing!!!!
@BwayBoundChristian Hahaha yes! Right after she pulls the mask off, he's like "Quick, gotta leave the stage!" Then he's like "Oh yeah! Take the girl! Take the girl!" Whoosh.
I got into Phantom this year when our band played The Phantom of of The Opera Melody. I cannot wait to see this in person, I hope I can soon. If any Phans want to, you can go to my channel and see the bands performance, it was tremendous fun to play.
Gary is absolutely my favorite phantom ever...his voice is like silk, and he has the sexiest hands. and his end of part fondle isn't as perv as a lot of other phantoms i've seen. it's like he's in awe he's so close.
Best performance by a Phantom and Christine. Perfect duet of a husband and wife. Their responses to each other are just amazing, like they know they're teasing and torturing each other with the lyrics and music. Gotta love them!
I so very much love his performance... My God, this is one of my favorites... I could agree with almost every comment on here already, but I'm just wondering if the first scream after the mask is taken off is Christine?? It's at like 9:06
I love the fact that he gets so close to her when she throws back his hood. Also, when he holds her when she goes to take off his mask, wow. I got goosebumps!
@baripower73 I got lucky. I was able to see Wicked about two months ago and while it was amazing and I loved it I think I loved Phantom more while my mom preferred Wicked. I actually decided to treat my mom to Wicked because I'm the one who got her interested in Wicked. She's the one who got me into Phantom and I ended up getting her into Wicked when I bought the soundtrack and we enjoyed it but I loved Phantom more I think. My dad bought me the London Cast recently and I listen to it often.
These two are AMAZING!! she plays the role Exactly how i always want the actresses to play christine...she shows that he is seducing her, and that she wants him and feels pity for him...especially in Music of the night, its just little facial expressions and touches. And then in final liar many christine's almost make it look like they Only dislike him... but Beth shows pity and that she really does care for him, and that she understands why he is so troubled!
Thanks for posting!! I loved his portrayal of the Phantom. He's the only one I've seen who gets up and moves while Christine is singing. All the others just sit there. He also did a great job of looking like he was burning inside and looking nervous while hearing what Christine was singing. I love it lol
I was recently given the chance to see this amazing musical for the first time with my mother. I loved it so much and got so many ideas watching the stage version which fully beats out the movie version. It was amazing and our Phantom and Christine were amazing as well. I would love to see this musical on stage again. Sadly when we went to see it the website announced it was the last time it would be in that town so I chose to see this instead of Wicked. My mom let me choose which one we saw.
This part gives me more chills than ever because I know realize they are married and it makes the chemistry of this part so much more steamy if you will ;)
Wolffman, um... no! Nowhere in that incoherent nonsense did you come close to a rational thought. We are all now dumber for having read that. I award you zero points, and may god have mercy on your soul...
I'm a fan of the phantom it's so romantic and the score is so good. So 7:58 is when Cristine pulls off his hood and knowing it's The Phantom, well she tries to run away, but she is stopped by the mangers of the theater. I hope you understand now. P.S youdon't see the mangers in this vid, I think thats you're confused. Thanks
(That was so amazing!! Thank you for posting this!)
As an honest reviewer, I would have to say that Gary and Beth's performance totally poned the one in the 2005 movie version. G&B were such good actors that it seemed as if ther sexual tension between them was real...if it wasn't. In the scene in the movie, it seemed as thought everything was incredibly overthought. Gary and Beth did a phenomonial job!!
You do know Gary and Beth are married and have two kids in real life? Wouldn't that be fantastic to be in Phantom opposite your spouse? That's why their chemistry seems so genuine, because it is!
I really prefer this version of point of no return to the movie one; Christine being more afraid is so much more interesting to me, and, I don't know, I feel like the movie butchered this scene.
I liked the scene in the movie, but your right. Here she feels his mask and tries to run off of the stage. It just makes more sence to me. In the movie she looked like she knew it was him all along, but she didn't really show her fear as much as I'd have liked her to.
I actually pefer the movie version. you'd think that Christine should be able to recognize her ANGEL OF MUSIC by his voice alone. for a long time that's all he was, a voice.
oh, and people did notice Erik in the movie but Raoul waved them down for some reason.
i agree, i loved the movie version as well. She looked as though she recognized that it was him, and like she was really enthralled by his presence. I do still love the stage version, but it is a little strange that Christine wouldn't notice who he was.... :P
Well, he is wearing a huge black cloak, I doubt anyone could recognize him unless they felt the mask through it, like Christine does! I like both versions, but this one has suspense because the audience knows it's him under there feeling her up and stuff. Haha! But the movie version is pretty hot, too. <3
Well, this song is basically about sex. And the two are married... xD Sorry. So no one can restrain themselves for fear of angering the husband and wife because they are each other's soul mate. xD
I was talking about the movie version, I was responding to an earlier message. Though, I can't fault you for not knowing that, it doesn't show on the front page and I didn't make it clear. In this version it's believable that no one could tell that it was really the Phantom, but not the movie. And in this one Christine actually figures it out in a believable way by feeling his mask. The movie traded logic and art for sex appeal....
agreed i mean it is like they nurtered the hell out of the movie. I mean the movie goes farther and farther into the piont of no return. I mean there are a lot of things i think everyone could have accepted willingly or unwillingly but some of it was pure lazyness on there part... i.e. the masked ball...
actually, in my mind, in the movie Christine finds out it's the Phantom the very moment he begins singing. That's why she looks shocked/stunned but without resisting, just-- goes along with it. It's a different take on the song, but not necessarily the wrong way to do it.
Floweramon, I agree. The movie traded logic and art for sex appeal on several occasions, including this one. The ironic thing is that I didn't find the scene in the movie at all sexy, and I find these clips on YouTube far sexier. I really hated that they got rid of that bench. I'm not really sure what's supposed to be sexy about walking up two different staircases on opposite sides of the stage, but to each their own, I guess.
Yeah, that basically his the nail on the head. So it's like, Christine rips off his mask, hes angry. He threatened to kill Raoul, she gets angry. So basically, in the end they are both so mad at each other that they brake up (well, there's a lot of reasons why they were never together).
Same here. If some stalker dude threatened to kill MY lover, I would be insanely mad, and unimpressed. It's true girls are protective of their guy. It's a good thing too.
Same here. Most of the time, I just stay in character and keep my mind focused on that. It takes me like two hours after rehearsals to get out of character. lol.
Well, yeah, doing any shows fun, this is just really good. Even though when the people playing Phantom and Raoul pretend to fight over me, I start laughing. Having the people being my friends and fighting over me is just kinda funny.
Yah, he doesn't. Any Raoul does not. Oh well. Funny thing is that the main people in my cast I knew since I was a kid, so I'm friends with the dude who plays Raoul too. Nice guy, great voice, good at kissing (he made me add that), and POTO expert. I like the final scene, it's sad and makes me cry, but it's really fun to do.
Just wondering.. how could your theatre company be performing the show? As far as i know.. the rights have not been released and don't plan on being released for a long time yet.
I dont know. I think they got if off the Internet of something. It's a small group and it wont be as big as this one. Then again, they dont really tell me anything.
Well, it's like one of my favorite songs, but yeah. It makes me mad that she chose the rich wimp guy instead of the totally awesome genius. The seance is actually pretty fun to do. I get the joy of seeing Raoul's head in a noose. Hee, hee!
That's awesome! This is the type of show that you cant help but fall in love with. Strangely enough. Anyway, this show is really good and when it comes to who should have won Cristen at the end, I vote for the Phantom! ^_^
Well, I can grantee that you'll love the book if you love the show! Just remember that they are not exactly the same. By the way, I hope you have a happy birthday! This some is my reason for going to New york one day. I hope.
Well, it's really fun. I was always in love with the book, but I really liked the show. So when this theatre company in my town was going to do it, I auditioned and I got the main part.
And yes, it does work very well, the look on her face I mean.
A theatre group I'm in finally got enough money to do it and I was casted as Cristine, and (thank god)my best guy friend was cast as the Phantom. I'm very excited! :D
I love the look on her face when she realizes that he is the phantom! It's the "Oh, crap! It's him!" look.
and also, I'm so glad it's here!
I'm doing Phantom and me and the dude playing the phantom are really close friends and we saw the show together and wanted to do it the way Gary and Beth do it. All I found was the movie ones......
I think its hilarious that in the choreography of this scene they have Christine do a "hoochy squat" LOL. I was doing that in the club last night! (jk) :-)
He's the most animated Phantom thats for sure,Great voice too

Thanks!

The music is fantastic

A theatre group I'm in finally got enough money to do it and I was casted as Cristine, and (thank god)my best guy friend was cast as the Phantom. I'm very excited! :D

I love the look on her face when she realizes that he is the phantom! It's the "Oh, crap! It's him!" look.
and also, I'm so glad it's here!
I'm doing Phantom and me and the dude playing the phantom are really close friends and we saw the show together and wanted to do it the way Gary and Beth do it. All I found was the movie ones......
Thumbs up to Gary and Beth!!!!

i love the fact how gary and beth are married(:
kyliemarie177 4 years ago 2
is that why their performance is so convincing??? :)
ChantantReve 4 years ago
No way, they're married?? Thats cool! Did they meet from performing in phantom, or were they actually married beforehand, and both cast in the role?
kristinalinda 4 years ago
They were already married before the performance, November 6th 1994 to be precise.
pongadmc 4 years ago
are they still married?
