  • *PLEASE* Do a video on the Better Beamer and how you are using it with your photography. With and Without shots. Take a look there is nothing on youtube showing ho this tool is being used. Are you ETTL?

  • @KellyEasterPhoto Good thought. I will do that when time allows, about a week or two. -Colin

  • What lens did you use here?

  • @82ngt The one mounted in the 'yak is the canon 500mm.

  • So I am terribly curious what damage happened when Austin's video camera (on tripod) fell in the water as he went for a snake?

I'd also love to know what the ranger said was illegal, unless it was the catching tadpoles in a net.

Beyond that they are great videos! You had me laughing right along with you. Reminded me of the summers I spent as a kid playing in the rivers and creeks.

  • @oregonbob2000 It was damaged beyond repair. The rangers had a problem with us capturing snakes in Congaree. Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Totally missed this on my subscription box. Top quality production! This deserves to be featured on the front page :) Good humor too, look forward to the next one as usual.

  • @marleyman101 Thanks! The next video will be posted in August. It will set our new standard for quality footage and sound. We have serious audio and stability issues as you can see and hear....no more though. The August video will be our best work ever!

  • The August video will be something to look forward too, I assure you. I can't wait!

  • awesome footage, and great shots, but I dont know how you made it out of there alive with that 2 footed half brained Austin lurking in trees. I hear that the 2 footed half brained Austin hides in the tree tops waiting for canoeist to paddle by so he can pounce on them with exact accuracy and tickle them until they wet their pants, I dont know how true this is but I advise you to be careful or wear a diaper the next time your out in the canoe...

  • @dnth8rel8 Started off as a nice comment, then got a little wierd.....LOL

  • What a great camera fall! Ever thought about under water video?

  • @hiddennature We are trying to get our GoPro skills up for some underwater stuff. But the water is so cloudy in the swamp that visibility is limited. Expect some underwater stuff on the next documentary, for better or worse.

  • Great video guys, that place is amazing. You inspired me to start putting up videos on youtube. It's fun to see others have the courage to put thousands of dollars worth of gear in a kayak ( and in the water!).

  • @swsalpaha I'm watching your kayak setup vid now. Where did you get your music?

  • @swsalpaha ....was wondering about copywright issues....etc.

  • @flecktonesrock Are you saying I can't use the song even if I give credit to the artist? I'm new at this youtube

Stuff, youtube even put a link to the song in itunes. You should check him out he's an great guitar player.

If I'm doing something wrong please let me know, I don't want the FBI at my door!!

  • @swsalpaha I don't think you can. Copyrights don't allow that from what I've read. It's an issue I run in to- how to get music for the videos....so I just record my own. But I do know of Andy though, he's superb. I've enjoyed his music for a long time.

  • great vid

  • Nice Video!

I thought you got some cool underwater footage of alligators!

  • @GatewayImage Thanks! We did get some underwater gator footage on the last trip to the barrier islands. But I don't think we posted that. Neither Austin or I have had time to edit a video from that footage.

  • Awesome! More, more, more!

(Glad Austin isn't dead after all)

  • @Elaniago Nope, he's still alive and well.

  • @Elaniago He's alive and kicking. haha

  • Gators too? you guys are insane, but keep going, we love your videos. By the way, did that camera that fell in the water survive?

  • @pedrosttau We just found out- $200 repair and the camera is good to go. The footage from it has been recovered also. Great news!

  • Do you a PC or Mac? what software do you use in post? Enjoy your videos...!

  • @MrAbh002 I use a PC. Austin is doing to a school for videography though....he will be using Final Cut Pro soon enough I've sure.

  • Crazy natural photographers going on snake infested waters. You deserve all the respect you get.

  • @pedrosttau Snakes and gators are ok with us. =) It's a lot of fun.

  • Quick question for you Colin, since you have owned the 500mm for a long time, are there times were you wanted more reach, like having the 600mm lens. I'm getting close to purchasing one of these big boys, and 500mm is now $7k , for 3k more, I can get a 600mm. Is the extra 100mm of focal length worth it? Thanks.

  • @BigCatsWildlife I'll send you a private message or we can make a phone call soon. Kind of involved question and I need a block of time to type up a response.

  • @flecktonesrock Awesome Colin, looking forward to your response, Thanks (ahead) for your time, lol.

  • @BigCatsWildlife sent you a message.

  • thank you guys for a new entertaining and interesting video. it´s always fun see u both in action. all the best from germany

i´ll keep my fingers crossed for the video-cam ;-)

  • Great video again guys and always fun to watch you both.

    The dynamic duo strike again!

  • what are your settings for shooting birds normally?

  • @TommyPh500d There is no "normal" setting. I try for lower ISO for perched birds, and of course higher ISO and shutter for birds in flight. As I said, nothing is "typical", especially in a swamp like that where the light it drastically different from one area to the next.

  • @flecktonesrock cool, what is ur drive mode?

  • @TommyPh500d I always use Servo. But I've disable AF from the shutter button, and assigned it to the AF-ON button only. That was I have single shot (one press AF ON) or servo mode for tracking (continuously holding the AF ON button)

  • Great seeing and hearing the call of the Barred Owl

  • HiYa Collin & Austin! About time you two did another video. The one with the owl amazing, as you know I watch national Geo. all the time, and your video is the first I've EVER seen an owl "hooting" like that. I still believe the both of you need to be hired by National Geo.

    Regards,

    Tasha

  • @tashagotjunk99 Thanks! And yes, being in that close proximity to Barred Owls in action is quite a thrill. We're hoping to revise our technique in the future to get more flight shots.

  • Obviously the birds weren't scared away by the orange paddles. I use the same type. but only for recreational kayaking.

Always enjoy your videos and insights.

  • @2tried Right. I've concluded that it doesn't make a difference. Besides, Austin's canoe is almost bleach white anyway, so a couple yellow paddle blades don't make a difference. LOL The bird is either cooperative, or not. That's what I've found.

  • So entertaining, thanks Colin and Austin. Great shots too.

  • @stubones Thanks for watching!

  • what happened at 8:00 is why i will not bring my camera on a small boat. lol. Great video, makes me want to go do it myself but I don't have the right equipment for it or the money for it. lol.

  • @dethmerc Austin blanks out when he's after a reptile for sure. I couldn't believe he didn't realize how far he was tipping.

  • Nice to see a new vid from you guys. i hope the equipment is fine and we will see you again, soon.

  • @NordishByNature265 His camera went off to the repair center yesterday. It wouldn't power up and we're not sure about the footage from it. He got some good flight sequences of the barred owls.

  • Love all the humor, very awesome!

  • @BigCatsWildlife Thanks for watching!

  • Good vid but I don't quite get the point of going into the water after the snake.

Take pictures of the snake, video the snake. he has a camera right. Austins not too bright is he? Good friend though I bet.

A float either side of the canoes would give you more stability.

  • @globalimage Thanks for your comments. However, your statement about Austin's intelligence is neither correct nor warranted. Also, we go through very tight channels and portages on these trips, floats on the sides of our watercraft is not practical.

  • Amazing video - gives a great idea of what to see and experience in a 'swamp' like that. I'm a birdphotographer aswel but from the Netherlands, and areas like the Santee are not to be found here. Would be amazing to photograph from a boat like we see here. Keep it up! I love your videos!

  • @JWHv1 Great to hear from other photographers! You would like to come here, and I would like to photograph in the Netherlands for sure!

  • You got some great shots, nice touch with the bloopers at the end.

  • @bobsden25 Bloopers are the best part. Haha Thanks for watching! =)

  • Awesome videos guys. A road trip just might be in my future.

  • @CorallusKeeper Come on down! Or up.....whatever direction you would come from.
