  • cool.

  • Is this similar to how entanglement works?

  • Omg I m now addicted to the tick tick tick tick tick tick...

  • Christiaan Huygens would have enjoyed this demonstration of entrainment. Imagine a circle with a hundred or so aligned along tangents to the perimeter, all happily ticking away, until one is is displaced, rotated or removed. Maybe gyroscopes aligning their precessions?

    Fun Stuff, thanks.

  • If you put metronomes that are already in sync on top of cans of beer, they "un-synchronize"

  • jkeagle13, what would happen if you started all 3 metronomes at the same frequency and the initial phases used in this video? The initial phases in this video correspond to a mode of a 3 mass compound oscillator right? If they all had the same frequency would they maintain the initial phase relationship? Maybe my question is why use slightly different frequencies?

  • really cool

  • molto interessante....praticamente si sincronizzano da soli per simpatia delle onde sonore.....

  • i tried it with Pepsi- doesnt work....

  • even better

  • Cause pepsi rules

  • thats cuz there is nothing better then the real coca cola!!!!

  • @CrackPedlar

    hahahahaha nice one ^^

  • Amazing. I like it.

  • One.

  • no such thing as time so like clusters of random code inevitably they end up synchronised to non- time i.e each other...its that energy i keep going on about...the presence and expectation of LOVE

So its a colourful opinion but TY for posting. wonderful anomalous nature i say!

    LOve

    LR

  • stop spouting bullshit you cretinous old fart

  • cool, is it the rocking motion they create on the board that makes them end up in time because it would require less effort if they were in time to rock the board. in effect they go from working against each other to working with each other because it requires less effort.

  • what happens if the metronomes are set at quite different beats per minute?

  • It would probably take longer, toasted2009

  • Ok then, it's Zen if it done with store brand drink cans and not Coke cans and then there's a ceasefire in Gaza. You're right, there is product placement which doesn't help unless Coke has a delegation they would like to send to resolve anything.

  • A good use for two coke cans...

  • *Visa vie my last remark* (flippen word count) It's a mentality you have when you're trying NOT to wipe an entire population off the face of the earth, kids and all. I think it may be Hindi, recyling and they're really into taking time to "just breathe," as heavily borrowed in the movie "Ever After." If Obama (BEFORE INAUGURATION OK!!!!) NOW!can't stop the Gaza holocaust...then India, what do you rekon? Goodness gracious mimimimimi. Thank you Mr Jkeagle13<---*eyebrow^* Ask not. It's landed.

  • I tried once to think of three things that could never be commercialised or trivialised. The metronome was one of them, followed by wooden dolly pegs and the third one is so serious now it would probably cure Gaza Strip holocausts for good. It's called a rag. Rags can be thrown away after use without causing extra waste because they ARE WASTE from it's use for another purpose.

  • Whoa... how does it work, is it the moving of the meter stick that regulates it, or does the moving of the meter stick cause the metronomes to change?

    that is cool

  • fuck

    wow

    thats sick

    im doing that right now

  • wow cool

  • jesus did it.

  • HOW MANY HZ IS THAT? 33 WHAT YOUR CYCLE?

  • cuddlyable3 wrote "However beware that the two oscillators reach MAXIMUM amplitude when they come into sync, which would be unhealthy for a manic-depressive person to duplicate."

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!Priceless. What a tool.

  • its all about the speed of the Metronomes

  • Gigity.

  • This wouldn't happen if on the table.

I take it the coke cans are used to allow movement/energy to be absorbed/transferred to each of the metronome's to create an average.

    I'm I close ?

  • the ones that just beep lol

  • a dorable...

  • Sorry, I didn't mean you missed the point, just meant to say this is a slighly different experiment to the featured one.

It's good that you're getting lots of views now because of that featured one.

  • it is you that obviously missed the point

  • No, I understood everything fine. In this experiment the metronomes are set at slightly DIFFERENT speeds. In the most common form of this experiment, the metronomes are set at the EXACT same speed. This experiment shows that even when set at slightly different speeds, they will still sync up when on top of the cans and ruler.

If you didn't understand that jtriffo, I'm afraid it is you who has missed the point.

  • calm down buddy, that was but a friendly jab... i see the internet hate machine runs quite well in your blood, you might want to get that checked out...

  • Wrong. They are all at the same speed, but not in synch.

  • Good, but I think you missed the point of the experiment. You are supposed to set the metronomes to exactly the same bpm, but start them at completely random times. You started your metronomes virtually in sync with each other.

However, it is interesting to know that even with slight variations in tempo, they still synchronise.

I guess it goes to show you should never use a metronome for timing when your in the wind.(not that anyone ever would be)lol

  • Well something I found intersesting is that even though they were similarly in time, one of them was opposite to the others (in other words it was pointing left when they pointed right and vice versa) ryet they all ended up swinging in the same direction at the same time.

  • frankovich learn to spell YOU'RE

  • Actually I can spell, it's called a mistake. I made one mistake in my entire comment and you're picking on me for that? It seems you don't have the brains to realise (yes I spelled realise correct, I'm Australian) that I have better spelling in my comments than ninety-nine percent of people on here and you should be thankful that you're able to understand them.

    Here's a nice usage of the term you're; you're a dickhead!

  • I don't understand. Where exactly did you spell you're wrong? It seems to me you spelled it correctly each time you used it. Perhaps I'm wrong though.

  • thats realllyyyy coool.

  • pacheco... cazzo dici?

  • its no irrelevant you imbecil! thas the magic of why a band, ANY band of ANY kind of music is ALWAYS perfectly rytmed and sincronized... if u see Mars Volta, or jazz or one of the billions of groups ull see that if any of their members gets out of tune or rithm, instantly all the members get sincronized and get the right way...

  • You're an idiot.

  • questions,

does it have to be around 192 bpm?

    and

are the coke cans full or empty?

  • Why? Why? Why?

  • I think it would work better using Iron bru and not coke cans.....!

  • nerds lol

  • Absolutely fabulous...I think it's fun to apply this to human behavior. On a stable/static surface, they do not synch up -- on an unstable surface they do synch up. Ergo, when there appears to be instability in a relationship, might be just the upset you need to discuss and synch up. Very cool.

  • i think that is completely irrelevent

  • funwithwarcrimes I abhor your notions of fun but you made an interesting point about human relationships. One might extend this demo to marriage counselling. However beware that the two oscillators reach MAXIMUM amplitude when they come into sync, which would be unhealthy for a manic-depressive person to duplicate.

  • Thanks for responding -- interesting poing. don't worry -- Fun With War Crimes is just a comedy web-series. Since we might never see justice in real life, we decided to create some poetic justice through comedy and put the Bush administration on trial -- If you abhor war crimes as much as we do -- check it out.

  • this is pretty much the same thing as the featured video but this came out first... not that fair

  • one day math is gonna save the world, so we're urged to believe in school--- so where does the practical purpose of this lie? what is it used for? building engines? dampening earthquake effects in skyscrapers? what? I mean the demo is just common sense, but application of this ???

  • EQUILBRILM!

  • you morons have little brains will never get this.

  • I don't think they're mormons.

  • At only 1:15 long, I think it gets its point across quick enough to not have to also entertain. What, were you needing cartoon animals to bounce around and sing to you or something?

  • You obviously have a short concentration span. A lot of thought went into this. When a butterfly flaps its wings in Australia something happens on the other side of the world. Morons listen up.

  • What makes this work!?

  • the force of the metronomes moving moves the meter stick around on the soda cans so it makes all the metronomes shift and eventually it gets like that

  • Very scientific proof.

  • its beacuse of it being on the meter stick and soda cans....

  • Someone copied this and got like 270,000 views.

  • The audio is hard to hear, so I couldn't tell the reason why these metronomes synchronize in phase. Can you write it out here. The principles? I can't hear what you're saying. THanks, Mamaglee

  • there's another video where he's only using 2 metronomes, he explains it in text there.

  • i get it now , thank you.

  • plz post dialogue in information

  • There's no cheating in this. There's sound physics at work. The "pendula" are coupled thr' the base (notice the small oscillations in the base) and that "drives" the three pendula towards what's known as "identical synchronization". The cans just help to make the base non-rigid (non-fixed); but in fact even if you fix them, this ticks WILL synch only at a much longer time....

THIS IS NOT INTELLIGENT DESIGN! IT'S SIMPLE NATURE. LONG BACK DISCOVERED IN 17TH CENTURY.

  • Intelligent design? Are you serious?

  • "" THIS IS NOT INTELLIGENT DESIGN! ""

  • @shoonnya It is not intelligent design it's true. Pendulums have been around for centuries.

However, synchronized oscillators (the interaction of more than one pendulum for example) have only been studied in earnest for the last 50 years or so. What is really remarkable is that this phenomenon of synching is based on very simple rules.

  • @stl517 hello! read my comment fully before commenting! I said loudly that it was NOT "ID" becase someone had earler said "omg! it makes me beleive in ID". I in fact explained the thing a little bit...

  • photoshop?? photo - shop..?

its a video you dumb fuck.

  • dumb fuck.

  • you're the dumb fuck, this is a real video, but photoshop is used to edit videos as well like lightsaber effects.

  • hahahaha

i bet ur iq is below 90...

  • photoshop??? what the fuck are u stupid or something

at least know what photoshop is if ur gonna talk about it

  • UR DUMB!!!!!!!!!! he explains how it works, smart one.

  • what do you mean?

  • nah its real...

  • what photoshop? Are you an idiot? Its for real...

  • lol cans
