  • Hi Im cambodian and im very interested in javanese dancing and balinese dancing. I dont want to sound mean or rude towards indonesdian culture i would love to know the difference between javanese and balinese dancing. To me both javanese and balinese dance is very beautiful, wonderful and very graceful. I myself i do cambodian dancing but im not goood. ^_^

  • @lilcraziaznkid Hi... vice versa, I admire Cambodian art and culture too.

The difference is in the beat of gamelan music and the movement. Javanese court dance is more slow, serene, graceful and controlled; while Balinese dance is more energetic, vivid, and vigorous yet also graceful. Among our neighbours, Cambodian dance have the very same refinement and grace quality with Javanese dance. The movements and hand gesture is quite similar, but the music is rather different.

  • the movements are so precise and refined. javanese dance has influence cambodian dance heavily

  • really? how so?

I saw a cambodian dance at an Asian Dance festival in Philadelphia last summer. It was really beautiful and similar to this. I think it was a dance for the royal court & lasted for i think 30+mins.

  • one of our great kinggrew up in the royal court of java when cambodia was under javanese rule. he left java, went back to cambodia, and took what he learned from there and put it into cambodia

  • Old Mataram kingdom (Medang) and Khmer kingdom had a close relationship back then (7th-9th century AD). I think they shared the same aesthetical standard.

  • i always fancy their hand movements.

  • Gracefull..... Javanese clasical dance is serenely awesome...

  • I've only been to the Indonesian Kraton once but I'm really impressed. The rich and luxurious Indonesian culture makes me proud to be part Indonesian. The music and the choreography was so friggin' stunning and beautiful it hurts. The performance was haunting and hypnotizing. xx

    Gusti Putra Indya Alexander Chandrawinate-Angelucci

  • Wow... from your name we can tell that you're related to the royalty ;)

  • Hahha! Well. The name "Chandrawinate" has strong heavy ties with the Balinese aristocracy lineage. xx

  • My step grandpa is the great2 grandson of the Queen of Sunda..

It's nice to look at your family tree,

I just realized recently I have a Chinese and European (Prob. Dutch) blood within me..

Although when you look in a glance, I'm simply a half Javanese and Bangkanese..

I didn't realize I have Chinese kind of eyes..

And my mother has a natural reddish black hair, while my brother has very dark brown (Almost hazel)..

  • my great grandfather was a raden from central java! and i'm 1/4 bugis.

  • @haffira The Javanese are known to be refined. The Bugis are known to be brave. That's a great combination!
