  • if you thin, the roots will be bigger and more uniform, but I've often not thinned them as I don't care so much about this factor. At some point of course, too many all together will stunt their growth.

  • Do I need to thin the salsify to 1 plant berore planting it in the groung? I put 2 seeds in jiffy pots, I want to harvest the roots. Thanks

  • I used to have the yellow tragopogon in my former garden but now I only have the purple one. I tried the roots, after blooming, but they were quite woody by then. Is this one the yellow one?

  • This is the purple one.  And the roots are also too woody when it goes to flower.

  • Here in the Bay Area, California it does. It can take our frosts in the winter, the roots actually taste better after a few frosts.
