@kirabook I am sorry but under the Migrant and Seasonal Worker Protection Act. have found many immigrants not legally working in this country, but because of the Child Labor Laws the children are required to be in school. They cannot work while school is in session. You also should be aware that there are seasonal workers that work in low paying jobs consistently over the years traveling from one area to another. That's what seasonal work means.

The belief that education is primarily liberal is complete bullshit. In my own experience in my school, which is in a predominatley liberal state, most of my teachers have been conservative. The only liberal teacher I know, who was my english teacher, gave me a 100% on a paper arguing against the public option in the healthcare plan. Also, isn't Texas, a conservative state, the largest buyer of school textbooks in the country giving them a say in the textbook's criteria?

Public education in America recieves more money per student than any other country, and yet our students perform very poorly on international standardized tests when compared to Western European nations, whose students perform much better than ours and still are funded much less per student than our schools. Those who say we need to throw good money after bad in education need to look at the facts. The states with the highest spending per pupil are some of the worst performing schools. Look at Kansas City. In 1988 they were accused of instituting "legal discrimination" because the schools for blacks were underfunded. So they invested 1.5 Billion in these schools, more than any district in the country at the time. What is the result? Last week 95 schools were closed for good. More $ does nothing

Yes, they were a kind of socialist party, but not like the communists, who were far left. The "political spectrum" is more accurately represented as a grid rather than a straight line. Liberalism is on the left, conservatism on the right, and above and below are libetarianism and authoritarianism. Facism, for example falls far to the right and is authoritarian. Communism is far left and authoritarian. A quick search should tell you all you need to know.

@kirabook I am sorry but under the Migrant and Seasonal Worker Protection Act. have found many immigrants not legally working in this country, but because of the Child Labor Laws the children are required to be in school. They cannot work while school is in session. You also should be aware that there are seasonal workers that work in low paying jobs consistently over the years traveling from one area to another. That's what seasonal work means.

Those who say we need to throw good money after bad in education need to look at the facts. The states with the highest spending per pupil are some of the worst performing schools. Look at Kansas City. In 1988 they were accused of instituting "legal discrimination" because the schools for blacks were underfunded. So they invested 1.5 Billion in these schools, more than any district in the country at the time. What is the result? Last week 95 schools were closed for good. More $ does nothing

In the PISA 2006 international test of math and science, the USA is 29th and is statistically lower than the average by 4 places. If we left education to conservative ideas, we would slip even further down the list see list at OECD website.

I'm sorry, but according to several sources (ie encyclopedias), the Nazi party was actually a far-right organization. Yes, they were a kind of socialist party, but not like the communists, who were far left. Instead, Nazism and fascism were largely conservative movements, which operated on racial supremacy and religious extremism (I'd consider the genocide of millions of Jews to be a form of religious extremism).

Bush actually ran up the deficit dramatically when he was in office, so don't say he saved money. "Universal healthcare" was not the problem with the Nazi party (though I don't agree with it either); their problem was killing Jews. No comparison!

The "political spectrum" is more accurately represented as a grid rather than a straight line. Liberalism is on the left, conservatism on the right, and above and below are libetarianism and authoritarianism. Facism, for example falls far to the right and is authoritarian. Communism is far left and authoritarian. A quick search should tell you all you need to know.

The 'left' extols the virtues of equality and individual rights, whereas the 'right' places greater importance on the nation than the individual.
Thus liberals believe in natural rights being paramount and protected by the rule of law. Nationalists believe that the needs of nation (the group) supersede these individual rights, altering the law as such necessity dictates.
Either of these goals can be achieved through a lack or abundance of centralized power.
P.S. Bush was a fascist.

My only argument was that the political spectrum is more complex than a straight line. I gave you facts and even suggested a way to find more info. I didn't invent political theory, I'm just saying fascism is typically defined as being far right and authoritarian. Not everyone on the right is a fascist, to say so would be absurd. Likewise, not everyone on the left believes in "big government" or social control. You, like much of the country right now, seem to have a very narrow world view.

Knowing that left is big government and the extremes are communism and tyranny and the right is small government the extremes being full democracy and anarchy has nothing to do with my world views. We just went over it in government; that's the way it is. Fascism is only on the right if you look at it from a purely economic perspective. There's much disagreement over where it is. I, however, thinking for myself, see the Nazi regime as the totalitarian dictatorship, placing it on the left.

Biblical principles are the basis for our nation's heritage (e.g., don't lie, cheat, steal, etc.). The Bible is the "North Pole" on our magnetic compass. Now, you have every right to not believe in God or to eschew our forefathers' societal designs. But putting "In God We Trust" on money or saying a prayer in schools is not forcing anyone on anything. Atheists are part of the minority and as such, need to politely respect the will of the vast majority of Americans.
