I honestly - & quite mistakenly - thougt no one could (ever) do this song better that Dionne. THEN I heard this version by Ms. Ella....step to the back of the line, Ms. Warwick. THANK YOU for posting - just simply incredible.
How i wish my granny were alive so I could dance this song with her....She introduced me so much culture, maginificent music, opera, jazz... among them all there were magnificent voices, being one of them Ella Fitzgerald.
does anybody have the clip of elle fritzgerald singing " a house is not a home"? i really like that version.. if any of u guy do have the clip.. pls upload.. TQ..
Ella's smoothness and originality in her interpretation really shine here (imo); her voice is always inseparable from the music and the band w/o a trace of divaness- unity in perfection!
I first met Ella in 1968, in New Orleans, through her Road Manager, Pete Cavella. We became fast friends, to the point that, she became my late son's surrogate Godmother. They both worshipped one another. I had spent many years following her wherever she appeared in the US and Europe. The saddest year for me was, 1996. Need I say more?
@Tony7840 Dear Tony, you are very fortunate to have met Ella in person. This song actually brings tears to my eyes because I saw Ella in person at the jazz festival of Montreux, Switzerland in 1979 (?) when I was much, much younger. She was truly bigger than life. We couldn't believe our luck, the Goddess of Jazz herself in Europe, singing for us. It was AMAZING. I know exactly what you mean, 1996 was a sad year indeed, may she rest in peace.
I never would have thought of anyone singing this song except Dionne Warwick (who I defintely like); HOWEVER, only Ella top her on this number. Plus, tasteful photography. Thank You For Posting!
QUem disse meu caro que se trata de uma canção banal???????
Além dos famosos Sketches, nessa canção ela da simplesmente uma "aulinha" de canto com todo tipo de variáveis, harmonia e melodia..Viva Ella!!!!!!!!!!!!
Besides the famous Sketches, this song it's just a "small sample" of singing with all sorts of variables, harmony and melody .. Viva Ella !!!!!!!!!!!!
Ella made it seem so effortless!

Now that is performing for an audience a great performer and song without all the showboating.
I was born too late but maybe there is a heaven.

Ella is incomparable but this song is not a standard, its just a banal pop tune.

Banal?
Thouveninpascal 2 years ago
This version aa mlhor fires among many others that have been recorded. summarizing is nothing trivial, on the contrary is sensational.
andreldgrangeiro 2 years ago
It makes no doubt that if the great Ella sang that "banal pop tune", it's because she did't find it "banal". Do you know Burt Bacharach?
Thouveninpascal 2 years ago
I know Burt Bacharach, great composer and conductor of great concerts

Realmente Ella Fitzgerald passou por poucas e boas antes de se tornar uma estrela, coisas assim tornam sua epopéia ainda mais fantastica...
