  • SON-OF-GUN; JUST MADE IT!!! In 1980 "Let Me Love You Tonight" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and spent a total of 17 weeks in the Top 100...

At the time this song charted Vince Gill was the group's lead singer and David Sanborn played sax on this record...

  • Does anyone know what year this song was popular ? Thanks from Mr. Vegas !

  • @mrvegas1960

    1980

  • i first heard off of drawn together

  • vince gill on vocals and david sanborn on sax

  • U SAID 5-21-2011 WAS JUDGEMENT DAY?!?! IT'S THE LAST DAY OF NOVEMBER MOTHERFUCKER!!! NEVER TRUST FACTS!!!

  • this is really good music.

  • is that really vince gill? it sounds like him but i had no idea he was in pure prairie league

  • @Paranormalaccnt9 Yes. He had a beard at this time in 1980. Sang song on Solid Gold.

  • @tranurse, Chevy Chase played with Becker and Fagen in a group named The Bad Rock Group, and then later as The Leather Canary...never actually with the group as Steely Dan

  • Like the lil' Mexican guy!! Terrific song! :)

  • Can find no history that Sylvester Stallone ever played bass for PPL....

  • @mrkinthdrk325 ..another Urban Myth , like the one that said Mr.Rogers was a Navy Seal during vietnam...if you tell enough people , it becomes true...even if its a bunch of BS , its like saying over and over . Britney Spears doesnt lipsync her concerts

  • Mr. Rogers was a very good soldier. research it!!

  • @Vibramputter11 look it up on snopes dude , Fred Rogers never served in the Military , he was to old by the time Viet Nam rolled around anyway , he was born in 1929 putting him in his 30s when Viet Nam broke out.

you buy into that urban BS all you want , but he was never EVER in the Military !

  • @mrkinthdrk325 no, but joe pesci did for joey dee and the starlighters, and jimi hendrix played guitar for the same band. the only song i know they did was 'peppermint twist'. and chevy chase was the original drummer for stealy dan.

  • I can't post the link but if you go to Wikipedia and search for PPL you'll find a good rundown of their members.

  • Ive been trying to find this song for 5 years.

  • i love this sng. growing up it made me think of homemade meatballs and roxie roker as helen wsillis on "the jeffersons" with her big afro dancing her heart out

  • My God. I had totally forgotten this song existed from my youth, and that the singer was Vince Gill. terrific, although he really found his voice in real country music.

  • The sax player played at my first wedding. He was the the tramp's uncle. He claimed Vince stole this song from him. Doubt it.

  • @genmeagher, I doubt it, too.

  • Not only is this Vince Gill singing...but did you know Sly Stallone played the guitar for this band. Don't know if it's him playing in this recording..but he was a member of the band prior to Hollywood!

  • @freakiestshayms, I couldn't find any data of Sly playing for the band. It doesn't seem his style.

  • @sandinyourshoes Go to Google...type in: Sylvester Stallone / Pure Prairie League bass player, at least three sites come up stating it as a fact...but I heard him say it on an old interview...don't know if he recorded with them or not, but at one time or another he played with them...that is all he said.

  • @freakiestshayms, then again, Pure Prairie League is country. It had Vince. Sly must have made good country connections, too. No wonder he worked with Dolly Parton in Rhinestone!

  • @sandinyourshoes Hmm, haven't thought about that movie...but you may be right. You know his brother was into music also. Frank Stallone...had a hit in the 80's. Guess Sly wound up on the better side of fame..he went Hollywood! haha

  • @freakiestshayms, as in any field, it just seems that Dolly and others can be reached if one knows many people in the wonderful business of country music. When I first read your comment about Sly, somehow a light was then switched on in my head, and so I thought of him in Rhinestone with our lovely girl with " the coat of many colors."

  • I love Vince Gill's voice.

  • So sweet....great song...great sax....

  • I miss this kind of music!! This is a golden classic!!

  • Hey the world didn't end MAY 21 2011 Dumbass

  • PPL hit #10 in Billboard, 7-12-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Thanks for posting this song. Doing that outweighs the fact that you believed in the fraud that is the Camping fella who created that false prophecy. I can tell you're a good person who looks for guidance but Camping isn't the one. He doesn't even mean well. Can you understand that? Please don't believe his next prediction about this October. No matter what, a good soul like you is going to heaven. Take care & God bless.

  • LOVE THIS SONG, IT WAS GREAT.

  • Sorry PPL, May 21, 2011 has come and gone just like you will and you company

  • I am a dj and have played this many times for the first dance

  • Gosh this takes me back to the spring of 1980. It got to number 10 in May of that year. What a great time. Good stuff. I'm amazed it didn't get any higer than number 10 but hey, I loved it. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting this. Brings back some good memories!

  • I love Vince Gill's voice.

  • it was better to love a girl at night back in the early 80s, especially if you were a teen-ager... the darkness hid so many things ....like hairy bodies ,stubble ..and zits ...I sure hope she learned how to use a razor by the 90s-!

  • @nealadams70 You make it sound so romantic!

  • @Alikah1 .....hmmm this girl did have a sister named Alikaa......hmmmmm

  • Back in 1980 I saw Pure Prairie League on Solid Gold. I remember seeing the Lead singer and thinking "He's quite Cute " little did I realize it was Vince Gill til years later.

  • I love Vince Gill's voice. Great singer.

  • Great song! may 1980

  • Definitely Vince Gill on lead. I actually have a videotape when he performed this with PPL around 1980 on Austin City Limits. I have to convert that and upload it on youtube somehow.

  • the band's 1980 release Firin' Up spawned the hits "Let Me Love You Tonight" and "I'm Almost Ready" both sung by Gill, with saxophone accompaniment by David Sanborn. A second Casablanca release, Something in the Night kept PPL in the charts with "Still Right Here in My Heart". But after Casablanca went bankrupt and was completely sold to Polygram Records, Polygram dropped most of Casablanca's roster, including PPL. Gill left in early 1982 and pursued a hugely successful solo career.

  • I remember this song very well from the spring/early summer of 1980, that is definitely Vince Gill singing lead...I used to own this album

  • @1mollyd it is Gill

  • that's so funny...they were so polite back in the day...this song is basically a way of saying the dude wants to bang her...she's all broken-hearted over some dude but his magic penis will make everything right haha...it's basically a euphemism for lemme f*** you tonight...

  • i believe it's Mike Reily on lead vocals. great song i have always liked it!

  • @leit420 Nope, it's Vince Gill

  • You can tell it's "early" Vince Gill...very talented singer...

  • Samurairol--

That's not Vince Gill's voice; I honestly don't know who's it is, but I know for a fact that it's not Vince Gill, nor does this sound like his type of song.

  • @EricEbac22 you're wrong cuz it indeed is. Look it up.

  • @EricEbac22 Did u not know he was in Pure Prarie League?

  • Billboard's #70 song of '80. PPL hit #1 AC, #10 pop, in Billboard. God bless!

  • 這首歌真讚

  • @pda1234562000 that's bullshit, man!! I can't believe you said that. You're so wrong.

  • @XxowendanxX I have the old vinyl at home, along with about 18 Vince Gill CD's. The album jacket show him on Lead Vocals and my ears say without a doubt that is his mellow voice.

  • Does david Sandborn play sax on this tune?

  • i normally dont listen to country music but i must say, this is one of my truely favorites

  • yehhaw:}

  • This is my all time favorite PPL song after AMIE. God I miss hearing this !!!

  • Has anyone ever posted "Still Right Here In My Heart?"

  • Your user name is capital L, Lordis my portion but you have a woman'sphoto with her bare rear end included with your music, that's like the other religious man who said he is in an open relationship, and the Christian man who had a porn star on his facebook.

  • Vince Gill has a great voice...classic song!

  • @samurairol What does Vince Gill have to do with Pure Prarie League?

  • @CowboyGhostie He's singing lead on this song...

  • @CowboyGhostie Vince Gill was in Pure Prairie League!!

  • @JOYCEKATHERINE

I heard this song, and thought nothing about it. And then I saw an informercial about 80s music, and I didn't know Vince Gill was the lead in this band.

  • @samurairol I had no idea it was Vince Gill!! Wow, I can hear it now!

  • Vince Gill has a great voice...classic hit!

  • I heard this song this morning and I've spent all my time at work searching for it. Finally found it! I don't really feel like working now...

  • I have been looking for this song! Thank you so much!

  • HIt #1 AC, #10 pop in Billboard. God bless! Vince Gill was the lead singer on this 1.

  • @NiagaraFalls4424 correct me if I'm wrong but I remember this song from Summer 1980 along with Drivin my life away (Eddie Rabbit), Biggest part of me (Ambrosia) etc. Back when I was young and strong and could ride bikes and play outside ALL DAY in the 100 degree heat of that summer.

  • @Nivicoman I hear man! I was ten or eleven at the time and good God I wish I could go back if even for one minute. Those WERE the days!

  • Not many people people know Vince Gill was the replacement lead vocals for the original lead. I met him when he was appearing with Pure Prairie League at Milwaukee Fest, 81 I think, with Marshall Tucker and Firefall.before he became famous!!!! Always loved his voice, have a few of his albums!!! Had backstage passes, amazing, 20,000 people starring up at you!!! Been a fan of his ever since!!!

  • One of the best songs ever written!
