I now have PTSD, severe depression, agoraphobia, social anxiety, etc. I've been on meds, had 100's of hours of therapy, contemplate suicide often, constantly fight the hopelessness I feel.

I have a history of depression and suicide attempts, was prescribed prozac when I was 14, and suffered through a lot of bad side-effects from the prozac, but I never ever wanted to or tried to kill someone "just to know what it felt like". To say that prozac caused a person to commit murder is entirely stupid. Alyssa Bustamante may have suffered from depression, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be punished. She deserves to suffer for her murdering the 9 year old girl.

You know SSRIs have been known to cause homicidal ideations, which in other words is premeditating murder. I think that these drugs could have affected her mind, and distorted or muddled her thinking...it may be she's to youn to know the diff. she seems a little off and confused to me.
Alyssa Bustamante was on the drug Prozac for years, and Prozac has been proven to cause homicidal and suicidal thoughts in some children. My ex-girlfriend took prozac for her depression, and it caused those same effects. I think they should do further research into this case, instead of just assuming "oh, shes just crazy and evil", Prozac had a pretty big part in this crime. Also, Elizabeth is so much less of a victim than alyssa. would ou rather be dead, or sitting in a small cell for 20+ years

I now have PTSD, severe depression, agoraphobia, social anxiety, etc. I've been on meds, had 100's of hours of therapy, contemplate suicide often, constantly fight the hopelessness I feel.

Very well said WhoopsieGirl!!! Some of these kids think she is attractive and not realizing the seriousness of what she did. There has been other nice looking people who kill as well..for example Scott Peterson killed his pregnant wife. He is now sitting in San Quentin where he belongs. Anyway good post...I agree with everything you had to say.

@NearoprAcor I really don't feel that we fail as a nation...however I do feel that there are way to many kids being left unsupervised these days, because both parents have to work. Therefore" some" kids end up getting into trouble...but don't take it as far as killing someone. The message that are laws are trying to get across today's youth is...if you commit a heinous crime you can and might be charged as an adult. What do you suggest they do with individuals like Alyssa? She is dangerous!!!

Yeah, we sentence minor's as adults to support our own delusional agenda. It's so wrong that we legally sentence minor's to life w/o parole, trialing them as adult should be illegal.

This "poor misunderstood Cutie" strangled and slit a nine year olds throat and then stabbed her.
thousands of people are depressed and cut themselves. It takes a real disgusting character to do what she did.
If this "Alyssa" was in fact a male - people would have little to no sympathy for her.
People have said in comments that she looks cute - isn't it more true now than ever that it's only skin deep? or will her outside cloud your vision as to what is within. Disgust.

There is a very good reason she is being tried as an adult. The public is tired of teenager's committing horrific crimes and only doing 5-7 years and then set free. Teenagers need to understand that they can be charged as adults for different types of crimes. There are 5 boys right now ages 13-15 in Florida who doused another boy with rubbing alcohol and then set him on fire, the boy lived but will have complications the rest of his life. Those boys are being charged as adults, and should be.

Alyssa has had a history of depression,suicide attempts,and self-mutilation.Also,she was prescribed Prozac,an SSRI whose effects on teens are questionable,to say the least.
Since youre already sitting in front of a computer,why not use it to do a little bit of RESEARCH before judging someone?

@XOkamiKageX how about you research a little more. she had a good life and was a completely different person at home than she was at school. her grandparents tried to give her help, like counseling. no one deserves to die like that, especially a nine year old girl.your not an idiot your an ASS.=)

I have a history of depression and suicide attempts, was prescribed prozac when I was 14, and suffered through a lot of bad side-effects from the prozac, but I never ever wanted to or tried to kill someone "just to know what it felt like". To say that prozac caused a person to commit murder is entirely stupid. Alyssa Bustamante may have suffered from depression, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be punished. She deserves to suffer for her murdering the 9 year old girl.

@ LordVegaFan...How can you say that Alyssa is more of a victim than Elizabeth? This 9 yr. old girl had her whole life ahead of her, and Alyssa decided to end it. It was premediated...she dug two graves a week in advance. If people don't want to spend the rest of their lives in jail...then they shouldn't commit heinous crimes. She was a very smart girl...she knew what she did was wrong or she wouldn't of tried to hide it.

You know SSRIs have been known to cause homicidal ideations, which in other words is premeditating murder. I'm sure she had some idea of right and wrong, but I do not think she had a fully developed sense of it. I think that these drugs could have affected her mind, and distorted or muddled her thinking...it may be she's to youn to know the diff. she seems a little off and confused to me.

Alyssa Bustamante was on the drug Prozac for years, and Prozac has been proven to cause homicidal and suicidal thoughts in some children. My ex-girlfriend took prozac for her depression, and it caused those same effects. I think they should do further research into this case, instead of just assuming "oh, shes just crazy and evil", Prozac had a pretty big part in this crime. Also, Elizabeth is so much less of a victim than alyssa. would ou rather be dead, or sitting in a small cell for 20+ years

i totally agree.She didn't CHOOSE to take drugs,she was prescribed them by people who should have known better.
And,yes, if I were 15 and had to spend the rest of my life in jail, I would try to commit suicide as well.

And if you're like Alyssa in some ways then maybe you should do a little reevaluating yourself, since everybody who sympathizes for her claims hat if she had prior help to control her attention seeking acts then maybe this wouldn't of happened. Sorry, but that's not something to be proud of. Either figure out what you need to or don't say anything like that at all.

Furthermore YouTube should ban these videos that are glorifying Alyssa. The only victim in this case is Elizabeth who probably trusted her and didn't think that she would ever hurt her. RIP Elizabeth...and my heart goes out to all your friends and family that misses you.

There is no reason to feel sorry for Alyssa or anyone like her. She was raised by her grandparents who gave her a beautiful home, horses and just about anything else she wanted. She also went to counseling every week. Elizabeth did not do anything to provoke this...and that is what she told the police. She simply did this because she wanted to know what it was like to kill someone. So hope she enjoys the rest of her life in prison or a mental hospital...it's as simple as that!!!

someone feels teh same...i never met alyssa i just heard about this and it has been bugging me ever since that someone my age this happended to....i mean i hope she goes to jail but i think if people cared about her and asked her about her problems none of this would have happened i mean look at her parents they are selfish putting ALL their kdis through what they did...idk i guess it just bugs me that someone that lived so close and i could have helped makes me feel bad....idk
