Sweet, Russ Rankin is on this album. His voice goes so fucking well with Tim's, pretty great there. Matt Skiba recorded guest vocals for their new album Endgame, so that should be interesting. Can't wait to hear that.

@PlaystationNation2k9 I definitely disagree. Their first three albums were when Tim's vocals were most solid. Good singing voice and awesome, powerful screams as well. The lack of aggression in his voice on the newer albums is why I only listen to their older stuff now.

@element9105 Looking back on this 1 year on, I partly disagree as well. I still believe his voice has matured for the better, however I miss the hardcore punk aggression and screaming of old. Appeal to Reason and Endgame are far better seen from a lyrical and vocal point of view. I mean I still love songs like Hero of War, Elective Amnesia and This is Letting Go. But the classics like Everchanging, Voices off Camera and Give It All are my favourite types of Rise Against songs.

@element9105: Save for the scream part in "Whereabouts Unknown" =D that part's the only reason I listen to that song. But yeah I agree. The 2004 album is my all time favorite cause I just adore the way his voice sounds, and the fact that it's basically what happens when Rise Against does hardcore or punk of ANY style. It feels like they were a little more into it for the older albums. Not to say they're not any good now, oh hell no, but older Rise was definitely better.

Why does it matter how you find out about a band. I found out about nofx by aimlessly scouring through wikipedia. Putting a song on gh3 was a really good idea by rise against. They gained a lot of fans through it as have many other bands. Eg dragonforce, gallows etc. The Intentions were very innovative and clever as the band gained a good following after that. As long as you like the band, who cares about your background information and how you found out about them

I love their music style. Melodic Punk. Such a breath of fresh air in the world of punk songs that boast nothing but speed. And Tim's lyrics are always amazingly thoughtful and deep. Many bands today just put words to music, with no thought in it, like a line from Disturbed's inside the fire "As a child she was taken and forsaken" no thought into it. Tim would make that sound 10x better.

You do know that Inside the Fire is dedicated to David's friend who killed herself, while very young, so the lyrics "she was taken, and then forsaken" are perfectly applicable. Do not comment if you don't know what you're talking about :/

I'm not saying the lyrics aren't meaningful, they are just worded in a cheap way, in which the meaningfulness loses it's effect. Tim's lyrics keep their impact and meaningfulness through the entire song; he has a gift of wording his songs perfectly.

Well, I guess that falls under subjectivity. I like the way Tim reads/sings those lyrics. Let's say, for example, Blood to Bleed is my favourite ballad ever because his voice is so strained, and you can kinduva feel that he's been through alot, but ultimately - I like both bands, but I prefer Rise Against (it's actually my all time favourite band).

I've just kind of gotten into Rise Against's newer stuff (been following them since The Sufferer And The Witness was released [no, I didn't learn about them through Guitar Hero like so many others]) and between this and Everchanging I'm convinced that RA has almost been experiencing a decline in quality. This is the best music from them I've heard, but don't get me wrong - I haven't heard a single RA song I haven't loved.

Kudos on being a person that didn'tlearn about these guys via GH3. I learned about them without guitar hero as well.
