Thanks for this great video. These are the ballparks of my childhood, and it makes me sad that they have been torn down. It's probably only a matter of time before the first ballpark I ever saw an MLB game in will be torn down too, Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
The unfortunate reason these historic stadiums are torn down is because of economics. Sure they can be remodeled into state of the art facilities, but its much easier to make a new one and turn the location of the old one into a parking lot. I can see why people question it. Personally it doesn't bother me, but sometimes I wonder how no memorial is made for where these stadiums once stood, no matter what teams and players played in them. Markings on a parking lot doesn't cut it.
3:14 omg i forgot about that fight ! i remember nolan kicking some ass but i dont remember what year that was or what the fight was about any rangers fans remember?
The Curse of Jim Leyritz was born. I'm guessing ever since he's been sentenced to jail time, the Braves have been playing much much better. Justice :D
Ah where is Memorial Stadium in Baltimore? If I missed it I appologize but it was a fun atomosphere to watch a ballgame. Especially in section 32 with "Wild" Bill Hagy.
continued, McAffee coliseum and the Metrodome go down, well and the other 2 cal stadiums... but the bottom line was this, the concrete monsters HAD to go, they were poorly constructed, they looked horrid as they aged, and when you look at them during demolition, they look like skeletons unlike todays stadiums... So unappealing... Thank goodness for the beauty of retro modern ballparks and flashy football stadiums (in a nice way of saying...)
ftr, i do miss some of these ballparks, but lets be frank here, they were meant to be for the most part (except for a couple!) multi-sport, 2 have to sports one stadium, like an arena, but they had horrible flaws, the astroturf, the horrid views, completely enclosed so you can't see anything BUT stadium, and on tv during early baseball season it was like looking at a cavern when the attendance was low... Lets face it Concrete Donuts have to go, and it's only a matter of time before
Best picture is at 3:15. Robin Ventura charged the mound after an inside pitch and Nolan Ryan got him in a headlock and ragdolled him. The moral of this story is DON'T FUCK WITH NOLAN RYAN
Tiger Stadium, comiskey Park....wonderful ballparks that had character. Try as they may, they will never be able to build them like that again. Thanks for a great video!
I was fortunate to be at the closing of Arlington, saw George Brett's final at bat, a future prez and Rush Limbaugh, the closing of Busch, Tiger stadium where I saw Virgil Trucks crying under the stands after the game, and Comiskey park, watching Pudge Fisk take one final lap, and old men crying in the center field bleachers.
when you look at the picture taken from county stadium with miller park being built in the background, it reminds me of looking at citi field in the process of being built from my seats at shea stadium
There was no excuse for even touching Comiskey Park and Tiger Stadium. They should be museums right now, that are still occasionally for high school and college baseball, and rock concerts. Its bull shit that they just ripped Comiskey down with absolutely no effort to preserve any part of it.
RIP County Stadium...the best "childhood memories ballpark" a kid could dream of! (tears come to my eye).
Even though I respect Miller Park as the state-of-the-art park the Brewers need to stay, it just doesn't have the same ol' charm that County Stadium did...
As a Twins fan, I know about losing a stadium when they moved from the old Met into the Metrodome. Now the team gets to go from the Baggie Dome to new Target Field.
Funny thing about all of those cookie cutter stadiums from the 70's? Once you were inside, it was hard to tell if you were in St. Louis, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, or Philadelphia.
On a sad note. I was sorry to see Tiger Stadium go and Old Comisky was a lot better than new Comisky. Sad, but true.
@ 1:02.. Sept 9, 1992... hit #3000 for Robin Yount.. on my 23rd birthday !! I don't miss County Stadium, it was a old, worn out park. Miller Park is SOOOOO much better, but I do miss the memories of the place. I am thankful that the movie Major Lague was filmed there. I can see the old girl whenever I want to.
i live for the mets honestly i started crying when i saw the closing ceremony for shea stadium. and milwakie stadium i really liked to my favorite baseball movie was filmed there major league
Let's be honest, Shea might have been a dump, but it was our dump! Lots of great memories there! So far, only nightmares at Citi! (but that will change in 2010!)
the old ones are just as good as the new ones yankees stadium was in great shape now its a destruction site. now it looks like the stadium was aged 100 years
Not stupid at all. Ruth retired in 1935 and Tiger Stadium opened in 1912 so he would have played there as a visitor for several years when he was on American League teams like Boston and New York.
I bought 2 Tiger Stadium Seats......I went down to what is left of Tiger Stadium in July. It looks a lot like Detroit. empty, abandoned and falling down.......
I have been a stadium buff since the early 80's when I was just in 4th grade.
I used to draw diagrams with a template, that I still have to this day, in my free time at school.
I grew up in Arlington Stadium and I have some really awesome pics of it if you eve decide to redo this one, not that it needs it, if you decide to add Baltimore and Yankee Stadium.
This is an awesome montage! Great job! Of all of these ballparks, the only ones I would've liked to have seen remain are the old Comiskey Park and Tiger Stadium. They looked like really awesome places to see a ballgame and were both replaced by mediocre if not downright lousy, facilities. BTW, you forgot Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
