PMSL!!!! I totally remember this from way back, I used to laugh when Fred said..DUH!!! Where do you dig this stuff up?? I thought I'd never see this one again!!! Thanx!!! 5+Stars!!!!
I don't remember whether or not I saw this as a child. I liked the part where the emcee said "He gets fired!" I don't know why, but the emcee makes me think of Ben Vareen.
Nice memory - I don't know if it was stagefright or simply poor preparation time that did Fred in! Anyway, good thing to know when you put on a hat, get hungry, or get tired!
In my opinion this might be the funniest cartoon CTW ever commissioned. The music where the band trailing off trying to find a start place again when he forgets "bread" is genius. I cry tears laughing at it every single time.
I am a classically trained singer. I know from experience that forgetting the words to a song does not look good. I would love to know how this guy made it.
This has been teasing the back of my mind for a year, glad to see it at last. Fred's one of those good-looking singers who is also not the brightest crayon in the box.
People ask me for this clip on a fairly regular basis, but oddly enough I had no idea what segment they were referring to until just now.
Great to see this one again after all these years. That closing gag is laugh out loud funny; it's unexpected but fits the rhyme scheme and makes sense, and it's timed perfectly. Classic!

Did he say, "And every night when I get High"?
elmuan 3 years ago 63
Maybe that would explain why Fred can't remember anything....

My sister & I tried to do our own tape-recorded version of this, but we cracked up laughing, & failed miserably. Kind of like Fred!

He's a cartoon. That means he can do anything we boring real people can't do. Don't you ever wish real life could be like that?
PandaMishima 3 years ago
The Hubleys did so many cartoons for the CTW.

I could have sworn this was from Electric Company instead of Sesame Street.
Akira625 3 years ago 2
That's what I thought. I was also almost certain it was from Electric Company.
revacohen 3 years ago 3
I think it is Electric Company, Sesame Street is just better known. The two shows had a bit of crossover as well.

@Akira625 same here!!...I wasn't certain until finding it here

I suddenly remember this funny cartoon once again from my youth. That announcer was pretty frustrated with Fred's easy going cluelessness.
