Correct, with the exception of the horrible corkscrew in the middle with the death-metal SHITE. Garbage is always garbage, and so-called "death-metal" is no exception. You CANNOT be considered a "musician" UNTIL the 'community' of ACTUAL musicians agrees. And by the way, your shitty garbage sux.
@brianburleigh Most death metal musicians are trained musicians... a lot of them, like Muhammed Suicmez for example, being classically influenced.
What do you mean by MY shitty garbage..?
And if you're going to say that a type of art has to be accepted by the community before it can be considered art... then you would be saying that Friedrich Nietzsche wasn't a "trve" philosopher until after his death.
@brianburleigh Or, perhaps a more appropriate example... rock and roll. The 'community' of 'actual musicians' called it garbage, called it immature, 'satanic' music, and now it's the most popular genre in the world. Many people didn't considered rock and roll a legitimate genre of music.
@TheRemotestCipher ...and all...APOLOGIES ALL AROUND. Written whilst on the piss and well deep in it. Sorry for offenses taken or delivered. I'll slink away back to corners I'm more suited for.
@iamasmodai Flea is a much faster, more technically skilled bassist than Jamerson. But, Jamerson understood rhythmically why a bass worked better than most other bassists and his basslines are much smarter than Flea's. Jamerson also stubbornly limited himself to one finger, which prevented him from doing a lot of other cool things too.
The bass tone Webster uses is perfect for metal: cuts through the guitars perfect. And if you don't think he's good, search up his slap bass solos.
@MrHammerofdeath Yes He does, He may be technically sufficient but that's it. You have to take into account that any death metal is just fast crumbled noise.
chris squire and you can lick my fucken nuts! Death metal aint just crumbled noise it takes more talent than any other genre in the rock family so fuck you
@tomtebass Definitely: he gets all my respect for what he did and he's a great bassist, but in terms of innovation, influence, and sheer skill I think these guys beat him out. If I can make a top 6-10 that doesn't get deleted *achem achem* I think I'd add Geezer in there.
Ecky Fucking Webster at no.2!!!! Load of old bollocks!!!

Alex Webster???
You gotta be kidding...
Clank clank clang is considered a good bass tone??? 2 seconds of that crap is all I can stand.
And it was a tossup between JJ and Flea?
Look at JJ's body of work. Hell, he invented modern electric bass playing.

@iamasmodai You may not like his tone, it's a question of tastes, but for composition, stage presence, technical skills... Wow, he's incredible.

the OX great choice i would only make a couple of changes like adding cliff burton and flea in there but over all great list!
acdcozzymetallica 1 year ago
@acdcozzymetallica I REALLY wanted to put Flea there... but between Jamerson and Flea it was a toss-up.
If I made a top 10 Flea would be sixth.
