I dunno about $1000! I looked up all the ingredients, and albeit it's still PREEETTY steep for my liking and I would never do it, I can make this at home for approximately $300. Give or take $100. Still hell of a lot cheaper than $1000.
I am a sushi connoisseur, and you, chef are taking a dump on the simple beauty of what real sushi is. Yes, sushi literally means "vinegared rice", so it's still technically sushi no matter what you put in it, but this is taking too far. I'm all for the authentic, simple nigiris and hosomaki. Western style sushi with deep fried rolls and crazy sauces drizzled on top is tolerable I eat those occasionally, Posh style sushi with caviar and edible gold I will never eat at all. :(
thats expensive things together, nothing more, will taste like crap that stuff... even balsamico on sushi is like the most awful thing ever... please keep that stuff for urself mr koi... just created for taking lucky guys in las vegas some of their money
rather have a mcdonalds im not even kidding, that looks fucking disgusting for 1000 dollars, makes me fucking sick how you can charge so much for a piece of fucking fish
What a pile of shit. If people keep allowing this asshole chef making those stupid roll they need to get a hold of his address so after they eat the roll the customers need to head straight to his house and take a 1000 dollar dump god I hate pointless shit like this $1000 pile of shit
Last night I came back from a party really late, and the only thing that was open in my area was this Chinese restaurant. I ordered a roll combination that cost about $12, and I can tell you right now that whoever orders this $1000 sushi roll won't feel half as satisfied as I was last night.
OK, so the ingredients are expensive stuffs, like fois gras, langostine, chateau de Kemp, truffles and safron (how much per pound?), lobster, golden caviar, aged balsamic and premium rice. Maybe $ 500.00 but a thousand? WOW, when you go to Vegas, you better be prepared to leave some money.
The look on her face was like "This was so not worth $1000. If I were to pay that much for sushi, I'd eat it in Japan or at least made by a japanese chef
Fair enough, the price of osetra ain't what it used to be. But foie gras is still not THAT expensive, and neither are langoustine. I'd much rather spend that kind of money on a multicourse dinner at Per Se or Alinea. Or sushi made from traditional ingredients, even. That roll is stupid.
sorry, but the reporter didn't persuade me after trying it?...chef could have taken a few rolling lessons-just for the sake of the "ingredients"...don't think that I would get this as a first order since i definitely wouldn't get my sushi lingering satisfied unless i was a las vegas thrashed winner!
i ate at this resturant before they're way too over priced. We had some sashimi at $15 per piece. Their menu does not have pricing on it. We also had some other rolls, to me they are nothing better then your average sushi resturant. And for the $1000.00 roll. I would never get it. There are kids out there dying of hunger every day, i have better things to do with my money then spending it on a few ingridents that is not even asian's superior ingredents put together.

who cares what the japanese think, they are a country that prides themselves on the holocaust. They disrespect us so why should we respect their culture.
@hidehyde3440 i couldn't agree with you more, hell $800 for the plane ticket and $200 for the best sushi japan has to offer, i'll bet it'll taste better.
@hidehyde3440 are you kidding me? the best assorted sushi in japan for 100$? you don't have any idea how much sushi costs in japan.... you would get maybe 3-4 pieces for that price (not rolls)..a normal sushi plate can easily be 500-1000$ dollars...there's basicly no high point for sushi in japan it all depends on the ingredients and which chef prepares it..
And for those who don't understand where the cost comes from... poeple spend 50-100k+$ during 5-10 years to learn how to make sushi.. the ingredients themselve maybe not that expensive but it's the freshness and quality (the things that have no price) and who handled the ingredients that make the price. You have to understand that you can't get that fresh that good anywhere else + this isn't made for poeple who make 25k a year...obviously..it's for poeple who would pay anything to get the best.
I completely agree! the worst thing is when instead of fish and condiments, they put a bunch of rice. Tes the rice is really important on the japanese cuisine BUT I'm paying for the fish!
thats just ridiculous. take the fucking huge mound of caviar off the top and slash the price by 90%. a fois gras sushi roll with some balsamic and garnish? hardly worth 1000 dollars, massive rip off.
I would just go out to the best sushi place in town 15 times with $1000.

It looks good, but not $1000 good. I guess gamblers in Vegas who spend $1000 for a hand of poker have no issues with spending that much on food.

bullshit,
the ingrediences costs arround 100$ per roll
most expensiv is the caviar, but it will do a big difference of there quality!
it can be also just a "cheap"-real-caviar
then the ingrediance would cost less than 60$
well the rest is lasvegas-crazyness
