Here's a little trick I would try on your Acoustic Electrics. I do this with my '64 Gibson. take a balloon and place it in your F holes and blow them up. The sound change will amaze you. I'll just let you experience it. Make sure you tie of the ballon so it doesn't wind up inside your axe!
Long story. I use to travel a LOT. Memphis was one place I went to a great deal. I was at BB King's on Beale. This 82 year-old black blues player was jamming on Little Red Rooster on a Gibson ES335 with something sticking out of the f holes. At the break I had to ask him what it was and he showed me the balloons. It gives a fuller sound. But he told me he knows guys that shove all kinds of thengs in there!!!
Hey Dale, thank you for the demo. just what i needed as I'm in the market for one of Collings great guitars. Though all three sound really nice. I really like the unique colors scheme of the 290, and the Jazzy character of the 1-35, the SoCo tone is more balance to my ear and thus more voiced for all genres of musicial styles. I have one question; how does the SoCo feel in regard to smoothness of the fretboard and feel as you are standing with it?. Feel free to PM me. Thanks again. Peace
great to hear you are interested in these amazing guitars......i think your insights are good ones. The Soco is very comfortable both sit/stand and the the braz board makes for a mighty nice experance for the left hand! Best of luck in your decision and i'd sure love to hear back if you get one,
Hi, came here from your link in the Discover Guitar forum.
It is interesting how similar all three guitars sound, especially the two hollow bodies. I presume you used exactly the same amp settings for all three. Do you think that in practice the sound of the amplifier is really the dominant feature?
i did use the same amp with no change in settings.....that is a good point about the amp having some color on the guitars. This amp is fairly transparent i think....i kind of thought the pedal had too much influence as well. Thanks for watching!
An interesting post especially for guitarists. We rolled this several times and we preferred the 290. The P-90's have a rich /bright tone at this end.
Also, a fantastic performance as usual. Thanks for posting this Dale.
hello my friend! I am glad to be part of that great forum and i sure appreciate you taking your time to stay in touch here! Hope you are doing great...
Your sound got brighter as you changed from guitar to guitar but I am still in favor of the 1-35, the 290 was a bit too much of lead kind of guitar. I'd think of the 1-35 as a mix , and the Deluxe as a great warm muffled fuzz rhythm instrument.
That is one fine looking Collings man!!! nice pickin!

They all sounded very good, my personal pref would be the I-35 (very rich and warm, which I love) followed by the 290 then the Soco

Okay, they both sound good. But what you have really proven is that you can play any style. I hate you! (Not Really).

The 290 sounds the best for that tune then the Soco Deluxe followed by the 35. The first two are close but the 35 sounded too choppy for that tune.
