  • This probably still ranks as the best overall American television broadcast of an Olympics.

With the games in the U.S., and so much live coverage available, ABC's coverage of the 1984 Summer Games could have ended up as a trainwreck.

Instead, ABC masterfully showed the right thing live at the right time.

  • Ronic70: Renegade was correct. They said the 84 Games were the last SUMMER Olympics aired by ABC. Read closely before trying to correct someone.

  • Bud Light and Snickers are the official sponsors of the world's greatest athletic competition. WHAT THE HELL

  • I always loved this theme they had for the Olympics. That was a magical time in L.A. when we hosted the Olympics. For those weeks, traffic was not a problem, crime was even down, & there was just a great, upbeat mood in the air. Even if we hosted the Olympics again, I don't think the mood would ever be the same however:(

  • @calchick82, a buddy of mine was one of the fanfare trumpet players for the Coliseum cermonies. He had the time of his life. I moved away in 1983 and later wished I had stuck around.

  • @Crommy5 I wished I had gone to the opening and closing ceremonies. My family and I took a drive out to downtown L.A. once during those two weeks(we lived about 15 miles away)and it was just a safe, fun-filled party atmosphere. I remember the big thing during those two weeks was the trading of pins. Though you moved away in '83, in hindsight, aren't you glad you did? We have such a mess out here in Southern California, in more ways than one:( I'm sooo ready to get out!!

  • Synchornised swimming solo event? How the hell do you have a SOLO synchronised swimming event? Synchonised swimming is barely a sport, but SOLO!? WTF!!

  • @ArizonaKnightWolf, nice catch! They are blazing through this sign-off so fast I never caught that.

  • What is the name of the second movement (starting at 1:08) after Bulger's Dream?

  • @RK831, it's all Bugler's Dream. Check out my answer to ZolfaThura below.

  • This was the last summer Olympics that ABC covered. The 1988 Olympics was covered by NBC.

  • @Renagade70

Incorrect. The last Olympics ABC aired were the 1988 Winter Olympic Games from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

  • @Crommy5 Thanks!

  • What is the name of the musical piece that plays over the credits?

  • @ZolfaThura, it's "Bugler's Dream" by Leo Arnaud. This version is all Bugler's Dream, while other versions also included John Williams' "Olympic Fanfare Medley" written especially for the 1984 Olympics.
