Phenomenal to see such a powerful and emotional anthem in the entirety, and superb video work. Quite similar to the original "Red Sock" album, and I'm glad for it - when was this performed?
I know why some posters dont like the music. It's pretty out there, but stands up to repeated plays - like the intricate guitar and bass around 5:40 onward. My friends could "enjoy" my love of more accesible bands like ELP, Gentle Giant, PFM, but HC was too much for most of them.
Che gran gruppo gli Henry Cow... sono la perla del progressive Canterburyano. Questo brano del '75 è l'ultima vera suite progressive della storia del Rock..è inarrivabile
ahhh...im too impressed with this vid to discuss the merits or sins of political/economic systems.....im just glad to see one of my all time favorite bands perform this anthem with such perfection....i thought they manipulated tape to get this on a album, but this is live
Nah, that's not capitalism, that's just buying goods, something that happens in lots of systems of govt. Talking of buying goods, my HC box collection will be arriving in the next week :)
The thing that knocks me out with this band are the sounds - only a few bands like Crimson, Uncle Frank and Art Ensemble have such a rich and varied array of fabulous sounds.
@AlmostEthical I'll accept that when communism is redefined as "not" redistributing wealth, but rather making sure no one member of the proletariat has a single grain of rice more than his neighbor.
According to Chris Cutler, this concert is the only known video of Henry Cow and there are no known video of the Art Bears, but there are a few live recordings in the bonus CD of the Art Box.
Am I the only one who gets impressed how they can play this with such perfection LIVE ? "WOW" is what I have to say. And to think music would "evolve" to Jonas Brothers and such trash. It's saddening. Nevertheless, Henry Cow, you guys are awesome, awesome, awesome.
@BrazilianDuDe music never evolved into the jonas brothers (BEST... BAND... EVER) the mainstream was always crap, and the underground always had the interesting things. Like Henry Cow then and something like Secret Chiefs 3 today
Thank you so much, BernardMontmartre! Without a doubt my favorite track by Henry Cow. Perfection from start to finish. Amazing that the band was able to perform this musical jigsaw puzzle live! What a great band they were!
It doesn´t matter if they are capitalists or socialists, what matters is their music! If you can buy the box, buy it, if you can´t, download it from the net! But you must have this, it´s just perfect! I love Henry Cow!
also, To all of you people who keep saying " Don't watch it on YouTube, go BUY THE BOX SET". Has it ever occurred to you that there are literally MILLIONS of people in the world who simply can not afford to pay $189.00 for this no matter how much they love it. your attitudes are extremely classist. it might do you some good to listen to some of Henry Cows lyrics. by the way, I work at Amoeba music in hollywood, so I know a few things about musical capitalism and being working class.
But anyway: Buy the box, people! Its is great, they've put lots of work in it and the booklets are full of interesting information. I didn't regret buying it for a second. According to Chris there are still plenty of boxes for sale.
Obviously the most important document we could possibly imagine...I agree and disagree with the prior statement about infringement. Certainly these non-pareil artists should receive their due for making such globally important art...but the very POINT of the ART is to dis-enchain us to the very commodity-as-relevance paradigm, no?
No, there are other songs in the DVD. And I do not think most people will buy the box just for this. But is's so ironic to see HC fans defending the virtues of our capitalist world that I thank you for this good laugh.
Dude. Henry Cow were always devout socialists and anti capitalist. now I understand that your just saying this because you dont want them to get ripped off but Im sure chris cutler knows that any true fan who can afford it will go out and buy the box set but that that shouldn't stop the poor people of the world from getting a chance to see it just because theyr'e poor. I sincerely believe that the members of Henry Cow wouldn't mind. in fact, if I can track them down I will ask.
Musique complexe et surréaliste; chaque note est écrite. Pas d'improvisation ici - c'est fort, inclassable et éreintant!!!

This is an amazing performance, even better than the In Praise of Learning version.
And after over 20 years of listening to these folks, I think I'm finally getting used to Krause's voice. And she is a brilliant singer.

How many lesbians are in this band? just kidding
Great video, I think "In Praise of Learning" is the best avant-prog album of the 70's
