Noor Jehan had piercing voice, like soor-e-Israfeel, Lata Ji is immortal, angelic voice, Nooe Jehan ki awaz andaaz typical Bazaari the, in Pakistan I don't know why people bent on making her an icon or legend listen to her punjabi songs, disgusting, apart from her Patti awaz, she was extremely arrogant, bad tampered , has physically beaten an aspiring singer, like Runa laila and threatened her if she didn't go back to Bangladesh, follow the next comment

Suraiya was a screen Goddess...a very cute girl with a sweet voice. With all respect to Noor Jehan, but Suraiya looked better on screen. She was prettier.

Noor Jahaan fans are very insecure, they praise her even when other artists are singing. All good artists have their own place. Noor had a bit kharkhari sound any way perhaps too many paans etc.

Lataji definitely has her place forever. In India & Pakistan there are or have been a number of singers whose name will be mentioned with reverence. Ustad Amanat Ali Sahib, Mehdi Hassanji, Noor Jehan, Lataji, Ashaji, Kishore Kumar, Rafi Sahib, Talat, Jagjit and many others. This is not a comparison of one against the other. Suraiya did wonderful for she was primarily an actress. So was Noor Jehan for a while.

Nice... Love her voice very much. Unfortunately, she's not that productive. Her death e few years ago made many people sad, esp classic songs lover.

Although Suraiyya started as a playback singer at the age of 13 for Mehtaab, she later only sang her own songs - no playback!!! Just the fact that Bollywood has not produced ANY actress who could also sing shows the depth of her talent. Her voice was more sonorous and had more "body" than Lata's.

And do not forget that she was NOT trained in singing. She was a pure amateur singer!!! Catch her duet with Rafi "Beqaraar hai koi", music by Husnlal-Bhagatram. Supremely sweet & sonorous.

Thanks for your correction! My choice of the word ANY was wrong. Both Sulakshana Pandit and Salma Agha were not stars. They sang good enough but totally lacked any star power of Suraiyya. They also lacked the staying power of a true star. Just witness their quick disappearance from the silver screen and Bollywood.

some playback singing. If you calculate average of 5 songs by her per movie, it adds up to 170 songs (and thus videos) at the least. If you watch her videos you will become more mad after her - just like Dev Anand was.
