Usually when a hyper-stereotyped character is introduced into a film, he has a purpose beyond being an overt characterization of as many racial slurs as possible. In comparison with some other characters. Sam is still a whiney, neurotic mess. Jake is still as boring, but pretty, as when he started. Dong dates a girl who wasn't the prettiest or most popular person and he is actually funny. As we get to know him, he becomes a more likable character at the end of the film than the others.

This movie came out when I was very young and was beginning to learn some 'bigger' words, like 'automobile'.

It's because of this movie that I have forever connected that word to this scene, and the way he says it. Everytime I hear the word, I think of Dong saying "Automobiiiiillle???"
