If you are interested in hearing Somaly's story, read "the Road of Lost Innocence". I am currently reading it, it is an auto-biography, a brilliant book. Really worth reading, as it goes right into her childhood and teens when she was forced to work in the brothels and get married at a young age to a man that beat her and addresses her work with the AFESIP. =]

It is so sad to see this happen in my country. Cambodia is too corrupt for any changes to be made, but I believe that if the world cares enough about this issue, the government will eventually cooperate.

Of course governments can prevent/stop it, by putting economic/political sanctions on the countries where it is widespread, by stopping corruption within law enforcement and the justice system. There are plenty of ways to bring human trafficking to an end but there is not a government who is willing to step up to the plate. As long as it is not and Western European/American/Canadian women who are trafficked by the thousands the world will not do anything about it.
