Even after all this time, this AMV is still damn good! I would not change a single thing. The music and clips are aligned perfectly. I'm sure we could argue about every character death/rebirth for this entire video but I'd leave it be. Most of the inconsistencies are due to the writers who did not place enough care and consideration into this great franchise.

Just to clear things up OP does die, but comes back. Same with Starscream, but he dies in the end. Prowl and Wheeljack were seen in later Japanese Transformers. Shockwave does die, but in a Japanese video game he is seen alive. In the Headmasters cartoon Ultra Magnus dies. Brawn is also seen again in G1, but is described as an animation error.
They did we can see them on series 3 actually. I dont see them here being eaten they are blasting unicron and he tries to vanish them with his eyes arms hands etc
Totally should have kept the death of shockwave in the movie... and that scene where magnus, sideswipe and red alert attack devastator and red alert gets shot in the back while retreating... shoulda kept that too.
Megatron didn't die. Galvatron is Megatron. Unicron didn't die either. Actually, Optimus Prime didn't die as well, since his Spark (Soul) became part of the Creation Matrix.
technically warp, tc, and the insecticons didn't die. They were reformatted into scourge, cyclonus, and the sweeps. And I'd still like to find out which became which.
Shockwave doesn't appear again IIRC, and he died in a storyboarded scene, so I consider him dead.
Gears was shown on Moonbase 1 at the start of the movie, and since only Cliffjumper, Jazz, Spike and BB are shown escaping from Unicron, I consider Gears dead.
Trailbreaker, Red Alert and Mirage all died (might have survived in Red and Mirage's case, but they never appear again, sooo...) in storyboarded scenes like Shockwave. Same for Smokescreen, who originally took the place of Wheeljack,
Wheeljack appears in Transformers Victory, and Windcharger appears later in season 3, so they MAYBE survived their injuries, but they can be explained. They didn't survive.
Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet are NOT dead. It is one thing to have a short appearance, but another thing to have the character appear and talk with the same voices they used in Season 2, such as Ramjet and Dirge did. The ones who got blown up were clearly generic lookalikes, such as the nameless seekers in the first episodes.
Huffer, Ratchet, Ironhide, Prowl. Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Optimus Prime and Megatron are the ONLY Transformers who died without a doubt in the movie. The others can be argued.
Personally I believe Brawn died, although some argue he survived due to his grave not being listed in 'Dark Awakening'
Shrapnel appears later in the movie and the Insecticons appear later is Season 3, so some people say the clones became the Sweeps. I don't think so.
Season 3 is full of animation errors, especially Fives Faces of Darkness. Need I mention how, according to that five episode arc, Galvatron was on Chaar. before they brought him back? Or that Thundercracker and Skywarp are also there? Or that Bruticus is seen with the Combaticons who have not formed him, and is the same size as they are? Or all the coloring errors? Or the copy of Cyclonus?
Also, inside Unicron, there were Transformers getting dropped into acid/lava, and about 4 or 5 get shown melting right before Daniel blasted the hinge/rod thing saving Bumblebee & Spike. Anyone know who died in there?
Huffer is seen outside helping Kup make a roadblock when Hotrod races thru. He Probably got stuck outside the base during the decepticon invasion and was shot down by attacking decepticons.
As a kid it annoyed me how the Autobot's with the exception of Optimus Prime lacked, erm, shooting skills, could not hit the side of a barn door as they say.
Yeah, I was REALLY bummed by the deaths too! That's about when I stopped watching the cartoon (also my mom made me anyway-she said it was too violent)
yeah, agreed. I hate most of the season 3 and 4 autobots. It sucks Autobots like Ironhide and Ratchet died. Even Brawn. Anyway, only two Decepticons 'die'. Skywarp and the Insceticons do die(they are shown to be floating and are in some seens without color like Optimus when he dies) but they get brought back. Thundercracker never loses color so he might have not died, just gotten the **** beaten out of him like Megatron.
It's amazing what mistakes there were in the movie. A storyboard shows THundercracker bringing a wounded Insecticon onboard Astrotrain without any effort, but after that, he is shown to be weakened and injured. WTF?
If you look at the storyboards, which you can find either on the dvd version of the movie or somewhere here on the internet, it is supposed to show both a constructicon and thundercracker holding Insecticons.
Too many autobots died and barely any decepticons. So when Starscream died I was like "YEAAAH!" >:) I missed him, but at least his death was really cool. Also all the Seekers, Insecticons and Megatron don't really "die" but are still gotten rid of as a whole because they become entirely new characters.
Its sad to know that the transformers cartoons were designed to just sell toys. They had no idea of the impact that would be caused with the brutality they displayed. But it made it one of the best animated cartoons of all time.

A large number of the Autobots ultimately died, but the Decepticons surprisingly had very little casualties. However, I compiled a list of survivors for G1 and somehow the Deceptions ended up with little survivors.
i think killing off major characters took balls and was something not seen in cartoons. even today, rarely dose someone die. they're 'destroyed' or something. transformers gave me what i really wanted in a cartoon; change. i love Optimus as much as the next guy, but such a compelling story had to have some tragedy. season three and four were not bad-they were different.
@adaliegh I have to agree with you. It was a bold move, especially for a popular toy line. I personally enjoyed S3..I know a lot of folks hate Rodimus, but I think he was poorly written in that series. As much as Optimus was a great leader. I was interesting to see Rodimus conflicted and not perfect. I think had Op stayed, it would've gotten boring and repetitive. They needed to shake things up, just like the death of Superman , etc.
@adaliegh (cont) but the writers of the film didn't expect the huge backlash from kids and their parents over Optimus' death so they were pressured into bringing him back. "The Return Of Optimus Prime" should've been the end of G1. I'm not a fan of "The Rebirth". It was a rushed storyline, and Optimus looked really out of place with all the movie characters and to me was mainly eye candy for the kids.
The coneheads still show up 24/7 in this season so do the insecticons so theres no sure fire detail of whos dead , i never followed no comicbooks & i dont think they went hand in hand with the tv series so thats another assumption or speculation as to whos dead or not
The comic books were a seperate entity. Cos in the comic books Megatron & Galvatron were seperate entitys who were allies for a time but became deadly enemys leading to 2 Decepticon factions. Which I think would of been a great movie in it self. Dont you

Shockwave doesn't appear again IIRC, and he died in a storyboarded scene, so I consider him dead.
Gears was shown on Moonbase 1 at the start of the movie, and since only Cliffjumper, Jazz, Spike and BB are shown escaping from Unicron, I consider Gears dead.
Trailbreaker, Red Alert and Mirage all died (might have survived in Red and Mirage's case, but they never appear again, sooo...) in storyboarded scenes like Shockwave. Same for Smokescreen, who originally took the place of Wheeljack,

Wheeljack appears in Transformers Victory, and Windcharger appears later in season 3, so they MAYBE survived their injuries, but they can be explained. They didn't survive.
Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet are NOT dead. It is one thing to have a short appearance, but another thing to have the character appear and talk with the same voices they used in Season 2, such as Ramjet and Dirge did. The ones who got blown up were clearly generic lookalikes, such as the nameless seekers in the first episodes.

Let me set this straight.
Huffer, Ratchet, Ironhide, Prowl. Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Optimus Prime and Megatron are the ONLY Transformers who died without a doubt in the movie. The others can be argued.
Personally I believe Brawn died, although some argue he survived due to his grave not being listed in 'Dark Awakening'
Shrapnel appears later in the movie and the Insecticons appear later is Season 3, so some people say the clones became the Sweeps. I don't think so.

Brawn was a tough little SOB, and technically we don't see his eyes stop glowing like Prowl's did but that shot looks like it was lethal...

Thrust, Dirge and Ramjet survive, you see them in The Five Faces of Darkness well the last 2 you do anyway but you see all three in the next season.

Season 3 is full of animation errors, especially Fives Faces of Darkness. Need I mention how, according to that five episode arc, Galvatron was on Chaar. before they brought him back? Or that Thundercracker and Skywarp are also there? Or that Bruticus is seen with the Combaticons who have not formed him, and is the same size as they are? Or all the coloring errors? Or the copy of Cyclonus?

Also, inside Unicron, there were Transformers getting dropped into acid/lava, and about 4 or 5 get shown melting right before Daniel blasted the hinge/rod thing saving Bumblebee & Spike. Anyone know who died in there?

Shockwave got crushed in the Decepticon tower towards the end of the movie - I think it's a deleted scene - but I'm not sure about Huffer

Huffer is seen outside helping Kup make a roadblock when Hotrod races thru. He Probably got stuck outside the base during the decepticon invasion and was shot down by attacking decepticons.

Shockwave and Huffer is unknown but Shockwave was seen just after Unicron attacked Cybertron so i'm guessing Unicron killed him??

in the original cartoon storyboards Shockwave is apparently seen to die when Unicron attacks Cybertron after being crushed by falling maisonary.
about the Transformers being melted in the acid tanks, im fairly sure theyre generic Transformers and not characters per se, but i might be wrong.

As a kid it annoyed me how the Autobot's with the exception of Optimus Prime lacked, erm, shooting skills, could not hit the side of a barn door as they say.

yeah, agreed. I hate most of the season 3 and 4 autobots. It sucks Autobots like Ironhide and Ratchet died. Even Brawn. Anyway, only two Decepticons 'die'. Skywarp and the Insceticons do die(they are shown to be floating and are in some seens without color like Optimus when he dies) but they get brought back. Thundercracker never loses color so he might have not died, just gotten the **** beaten out of him like Megatron.

It's amazing what mistakes there were in the movie. A storyboard shows THundercracker bringing a wounded Insecticon onboard Astrotrain without any effort, but after that, he is shown to be weakened and injured. WTF?
The original cast was definitely the best.

Actually I recall one of the Constructicons carrying an Insecticon. Thundercracker and Skywarp were just running.

If you look at the storyboards, which you can find either on the dvd version of the movie or somewhere here on the internet, it is supposed to show both a constructicon and thundercracker holding Insecticons.

Too many autobots died and barely any decepticons. So when Starscream died I was like "YEAAAH!" >:) I missed him, but at least his death was really cool. Also all the Seekers, Insecticons and Megatron don't really "die" but are still gotten rid of as a whole because they become entirely new characters.

Its sad to know that the transformers cartoons were designed to just sell toys. They had no idea of the impact that would be caused with the brutality they displayed. But it made it one of the best animated cartoons of all time.

A large number of the Autobots ultimately died, but the Decepticons surprisingly had very little casualties. However, I compiled a list of survivors for G1 and somehow the Deceptions ended up with little survivors.

i think killing off major characters took balls and was something not seen in cartoons. even today, rarely dose someone die. they're 'destroyed' or something. transformers gave me what i really wanted in a cartoon; change. i love Optimus as much as the next guy, but such a compelling story had to have some tragedy. season three and four were not bad-they were different.

@adaliegh I have to agree with you. It was a bold move, especially for a popular toy line. I personally enjoyed S3..I know a lot of folks hate Rodimus, but I think he was poorly written in that series. As much as Optimus was a great leader. I was interesting to see Rodimus conflicted and not perfect. I think had Op stayed, it would've gotten boring and repetitive. They needed to shake things up, just like the death of Superman , etc.

@adaliegh (cont) but the writers of the film didn't expect the huge backlash from kids and their parents over Optimus' death so they were pressured into bringing him back. "The Return Of Optimus Prime" should've been the end of G1. I'm not a fan of "The Rebirth". It was a rushed storyline, and Optimus looked really out of place with all the movie characters and to me was mainly eye candy for the kids.

The coneheads still show up 24/7 in this season so do the insecticons so theres no sure fire detail of whos dead , i never followed no comicbooks & i dont think they went hand in hand with the tv series so thats another assumption or speculation as to whos dead or not

The comic books were a seperate entity. Cos in the comic books Megatron & Galvatron were seperate entitys who were allies for a time but became deadly enemys leading to 2 Decepticon factions. Which I think would of been a great movie in it self. Dont you

i just use windows movie maker, it is a pile of shit program but it does the job..... just
all you need is that and a wmv/avi video file + any music ytou wish to add
i also use WMM to cut up the episodes
