The built in drum loops are nice but they aren't programmable beyond the limited tweaking you can do on the x/y pad. The lack of quantization is a drawback especially when kicking off individual loops. Mine is going to end up being an expensive but limited midi controller, at least it lights up a bit I suppose. Can't really recommend it at this price.

@downformaintenance Too bad that you are disappointed with it, I am simply addicted to this thing, sure there are some limitations but using the Kaossilator entails knowing what can and what it can't do but that goes for every musical instrument.

Its good but it really need to be designed to be played as an instrument. At the end of the day its still a glorified sampler.

I use a kp3 through a huge outboard of other various audio triggers and delays to get utterly seamless mixes between loops, when korg claims the kp3 and this does it all perfectly.

Thinkin of gettin one of these though to mount in a guitar, a friend of mine just mounted the parts from the mini kaossilator in an SG and its sexy fun to say the least.

The Pro is still just a glorified sampler on its own could be so much sleeker. your paying for the X/Y pad, you could do it all and more the Reason and the korg nanopad.

I first came across the KP3 cos' of Beardyman, that is the guy needed to push the device.

A mix of his improv beatbox along with proper bass lines would help shift tonnes of units I'm sure!

I have a Kaossilator and a KP3...and I am getting the Kaossilator Pro, already have my order in at Zzounds. I sold my Tenori-On to buy this...it's the music gadget I have been waiting a LONG time for.

@alex927 this is more synths, rhythmical effects and loops you would use this like a stand alone instrument.

the KP3 is more of an effects unit, it has about 10 synths and half a dozen drum patterns but heaps of effects like reverb, delay, modulating filters and gates that you can effect in real time with the pad.

The best way to use it is as a send through your mixer to effect prerecorded loops and effects and create trippy sounding samples.

My take is that it's the Kaossilator incorporated into the KP3!? But added features such as MIDI which has long been missing.

I refrained from buying the KP3 and have just gone for the pro version. I'm not a muso but I love creating so I'm sure it will suit my needs...

N.I. Maschine is only 100 more and does about 100 more things.. ;) ... or.. ANY real synthesizer does more than this if you know how to work it.. and some of those are only 300 bucks.. ANY GOOD well-produced software synth that you can get for 100 bucks does at least the same.,. now on the other hand.. this thing is sweet in its own right and does things in a different way.. that is why I'm getting one.. I just couldn't let you go on thinking you knew what was up. ;P

At Winter NAMM, the floor is absolutely packed with people scoping out gear... it was really hard to get a shot of everything we wanted to show you, without weaving around the crowd or bumping into people too much. Either way, we thought the info in the video was too cool not to share... awesome piece of gear, just total trade show chaos (no pun intended!).

and not that great of a product, i sold my KP3 as i feel it is junk, and kept my kaossilator, but this i can't consider to be a kaossilator pro, it's just a revamped KP3 with 200 sounds included...and by the way if the SD cards/USB are as slow as the KP3, then they are pretty much useless for playing live shows!

not much by the look of it. it's a kp3 with way more sounds included in it. they re-wrote the kp3 operating system(anyone who owns a kp3 should be pissed!) and repackaged it as a "new" product. which cleraly it is not, just new software!

i thought the kaossilator pro might have the ability to send midi-notes not just midi - CC. what a scam, and a true disappointment!

I don't get it, why they didn't integrate a melodic step sequencer like the one novations launchpad has now after the Max-for-Live update.

Actually the Kaossilator Pro has all the requirements for it (steps in the display -> horizontal AND vertical)!! And then combined with midi it would be a mind-blowing tool.

Would like to have a melodic step sequencer in the hardware, which is as well usable for midi-triggering.

What do you think about this idea?
