@GameReviewer1987 You "have no idea where the founding fathers come into this", LOL? Perhaps you should return to a third-grade history class. I do not hate America, only criminal cops, which pervade Philadelphia (which is a filthy dump of a city.)
Police misconduct is infinitely more symbolic of this filthy dump of a city than are cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, loser sports teams, Rocky, and the founding fathers combined.
Really? I know a few police officers in Philly and they seem to do what's right and correct based on law of how they should follow. Cheese steaks and Soft Pretzels... I love them. Rocky is a good movie. I have no idea where the founding fathers come into this unless you are some guy that hates America to hell. It's not a filthy dump of a city, sorry.

@BufOnSurfceHardNside I'll let the people in New York who have a Midtown and the people in Charlotte who have an Uptown know that they're wrong as well.
@shoredude2 I dont want to argue with you. Downtown, center city, uptown, midtown ect. refering to the business district (cluster of skyscrapers usually in the center of every city) are all the same thing. It just depends on where you come from. Dont believe me type in downtown for New York, Philly, and Charlotte under google images you will see a picture of center city, downtown, uptown whatever you want to call it, its all the same thing
@BufOnSurfceHardNside In New York, uptown, downtown, and midtown are 3 different sections so obviously they aren't the same thing. There are no skyscrapers in Downtown Philly, it's primarily a residential district. So just because you think they are always the same thing, doesn't mean it's universal in every city.
I've been on this road before. Thanks for the video. It's almost impossible to enjoy the scenery when driving through most of these major cities...gotta stay focused on the road (LOL)
Some nights after work in Jersey, I come over the Walt Whitman and drive the same route you do, only I take the 30 Th. Street station exit, then I go up to JFK Blvd. and take that East up to 20 th. Love how the Comcast tower looms over JFK Blvd. I then go up to 20 Th. and Market and proceed East till I come to city hall. I then take South Broad to my home in South Philly! I do a loop, the morning drive helps me unwind. I like driving through Center City in the wee hours, always something to see.
I worked in Center City from 1986 till 1993. I then left for Atlantic City and a new job opportunity, that lasted over six years. I work in South Jersey currently, and I commute to and from my job in New Jersey. When I worked downtown in the 80's, I was a shutter bug, I had my 35mm. camera with me at all times. I photographed all of the ground breaking high rises, from Liberty Place down to the completion of the Mellon Bank Center. I watched Center City grow ever since then.
Wow, the Schuylkill Expressway and the Vine Street Expressway were actually moving when you were on them!!! =P Usually when I am on those roads, they never freaken MOVE!!! =(
@Freewayjim I don't think luck comes into these videos; they're amazing! I've never been to the States, let alone driven on your roads, but I absolutely adore this one of Philadelphia - and the Hall & Oates track is just perfect. I felt quite dizzy by the end of it, though; perhaps it's because of the speed, or the other drivers carving you up or the simple fact that you're driving on the "wrong" side of the road for me!! Keep posting; love them and wish I were there!
This is probably last summer as the Amtrak builing on the right (with the slanted top) looks finished and the South St Bridge over the Schuylkill River (1:12 mark) has been removed from over the road way. Hall and Oates music is great. Hall is from the Kensington section of Philly I think. Tough neighborhood. haha
Hey Jim......Of all the bridges you've crossed,Which one's stand out as being the scariest? (anxiety). I would put 2 on my list.....Francis scott key(baltimore) and the Rainbow bridge(Port Arthur,tx). If you've never crossed the Rainbow bridge....Hold on tight!!!
Easily the older Cooper River Bridge (Grace Memorial, built in 1927) in Charleston SC. I crossed it in a large SUV while photographing it about 7 years ago, not alot of room for error on those 10 foot wide lines and no shoulders.
No accidents to date (knock on wood). The highways in NYC, Philly & Pittsburgh are probably the most treacherous that I've filmed as they are so tight and twisting in places with short exit and entrance ramps, the drivers there don't help the cause either.
Ahem ... that's called "Center City" in Philadelphia, not downtown. Much as it is in Atlanta, saying "downtown" is a great way to give yourself away as a tourist.
You failed to comment that I-676 in PA and I-676 in NJ do not connect as 676 in Phila, once you get off at that ramp there are several traffic lights and turns bf actually getting on the bridge....thats right an interstate that runs on city streets :)
That's a nice view of the Ben Franklin Bridge while you are on the ramp to I-95, but... too much going on to enjoy it when driving.
The view of the Phila skyline is nice.
The Jersey Turnpike will be the fifth highway that you've recorded that I've ever been on. [The other four would be: I-93 between Manchester and Concord, NH and the three interstates you covered in the Hampton Roads, VA area] Looking forward to see what section you recorded.
I haven't commented yet...But I love the Philly downtown area....but man their highways are in serious need of improvement...! It almost like driving in Chicago...Well I think I'm too used to the Wide Atlanta Interstates....

That merge from PA 291 to I-76 is awful. Lanes just disappear all over the place. Goes from six lanes to three in a matter of feet.
MASTERNC 2 years ago
Oh and just for correction that part of 291 you were on just before I-76 is 26th Street not Penrose Avenue
DCK55 2 years ago
Well I put Penrose Avenue because the sign on I-76 East at that exit said it was so I figured it would be the same thing coming back.
Considering how messed up the roads are there if that's the only mistake I made labeling I can live with it.
